J-music sounding jazzy is pretty standard but what I’d like to point out is how Kick Back has some spanish/latin elements to it (thats why the famous Salsa remix goes so well -> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5mfDzBeeBSI.html ) and kenshi yonezu actually has a few songs with similar elements (Suna no Wakusei feat. Hatsune miku, Decollete)

Also the maximalist approach here is probably Yonezu way to fit the theme of Chainsaw man: absolute chaos and lawless
@Cryomancer27
@Cryomancer27 4 месяца назад
Kenshi is also the master of maximalism in general!! His newer music has been more streamlined (while still feeling maximal in the sounds he uses) but his older stuff mostly kinda sounded like this I feel like kick back was him sorta bringing back that vibe and leaning into the crazy chaos.

This is by far the best Kickback reaction I have seen so far, I am amazed by your music theory skills and how well you can explain it and its also very impressive how well you can play guitar/bass. I enjoy your analysis videos and would love to see more J-Pop content!

I know NOTHING about music, but I know a lot about Kenshi and I love watching knowledgeable people react to his music. As silly as it sounds, it feels validating?? to have someone appreciate his music in such a technical way. I'd love to know what you think of more of his songs. Especially some of the lesser known ones, like b-sides. He's unbelievably talented imo

Actually this song is featured by Daiki Tsuneta from king gnu. He plays base here but he's the guitarist and composer of his own band. He is also a producer of the band called millenium parade.

THIS is what a react vid should be. I really love when you or other musician break down these music. Even though I myself have really weak background on music theory but hearing these kind of in-depth analysis make me understand what's happening behind these songs and appreciate the songs more than I could ever do on myself alone. Really good vid! Keep up on these contents, and I'll be waiting for your Kickback cover sooner or later!

not just two nickles with kenshi yonezu and ayase, the overlap between vocal synth producers going into mainstream music is pretty big! in chainsaw man's endings alone there's also eve , kanaria, and syudou, who all do vocaloid still as well. producer lyricist/utaite combo giga-p and reol have also both done anime, along with deco*27 and surii (off the top of my head) so its kind of more like if you get popular doing vocaloid you have a good chance to break into the industry i guess?

It's jarring at first for sure.

Thank you for great music analysis! It helps enjoying 'Kick Back' much deeper. I think you'll also enjoy the song "Reverse Dream" and "Ichizu" by KingGnu. The composer, Mr. Tsuneda, was asked by Mr. Yonezu to participate in composing for KickBack, and also appeaing in this MV. These songs are not openings, but were used as inserted and ending song in the anime film "Jujutsu Kaisen 0". Although not widely known in America and Europe yet, Mr. Tsuneda is a singer-songwriter of KingGnu with unique talent recognized by Mr. Yonezu. Please be sure to enjoy them.

Wanna give abit of history on the love of jazzy stuff in Japan. People can just cmiiw. Basically, Americans imported alot of things in Japan after the war. This includes jazz cause it was the most popular music at that time. Then jp people tried to mix and match jazz with their traditional music. It continued for some time until the Beatles concert in the 60s changed alot of things within the music creatives in Japan. The already existing music they have (jazzy progression with the traditional music) combined with the rock music of the beatles gave the standard structure for what an anime rock song now sounds like. If people also followed the history of the other music genres in japan, you'll find alot of their history traces back to the late 60s early 70s. Its like the concert became a turning point for the music people to do their own thing. From city pop, jmetal, standard anisongs, even idol songs. Btw please feel free to correct me as this was just off the top of my head and i need to put it out.

Your way of explaining music theory is very playful and fun to follow. I wish we could make a videogame that would link to a music instrument to learn about music theory while having fun. Like some kind of FNF (yes, you can't ever hope to escape it) but that would be played with instruments with lesson around it ?

It was so interesting for your expertic opinion to me. As it was already other comments, japanese popular music sometimes include a little jazz code quite a while ago. Possibly we japanese use to those unique code too much, and it may be difficult for us to find that ourself listeing song preferably has jazz elements. Among the resent anime hit tunes, I consider that "MIXED NUTS" composed by "Official HIGE DANdism" is cosisted arranged jazz mood. And, regardless of doing musics analysised or nothing, for having many interested features, this song is simply so fun to listhen. I'd love to suggest your listning it, if you mind it!

"Exterminate" sung by Nana Mizuki. It is the opening theme of of Senki Zessho Symphogear GX (season 3 of the series). The entire anime is CHOCK FULL of phenomenal music. Each character has their own genre for their battle music. Celtic, J-Rock, hard rock, orchestral rock, techno rock, symphonic rock, and techno/darkwave. There's also J-pop insert songs, and honestly amazing opening and ending songs. Iirc the entire second season happened because the CD sales of these character songs made so much money. Which led to a total of five seasons, each with a bigger budget and crazier stakes.

Hi, I’m Japanese. Enjoyed your video!! I highly recommend Japanese composer “tsunku (つんく)”. (Bridge part of KICK BACK was from his song “そうだ! We’re ALIVE”, as you may know.) If you like key changes like YOASOBI, you will love his song “happy summer wedding (ハッピーサマーウェディング)”. It’s kind of old song and not that complicated as YOASOBI, but still mind blowing and you can feel J-POP vibe, which is mix everything but it goes well.
