Hey big d, give me your honest opinion so you think full bridge just has a different sound to it more digitally or something like that. I honestly think it just sounds different from a Korean half bridge
Kicker has been on the come back the last few years, the classic golds the new solo x and kicker key, they are not just living on their name good job kicker 🎯
@@chuckholmes2075well they have been industry first in many things the original truck box, square subs, key technology, FIT technology. And their quality has never went away amps make rates subs take rates and they are only company doing free air 100 hr test at rated power test which is impressive.
The SPL market is not a huge portion of car audio, but very dedicated and most are willing to pay for products that are reliable. This amp may seem expensive at $1099 USD, but the Sundown SALT3 is $1149, much larger and not as powerful.
Thank you for bring up the absence of a clipping indicator. These companies need to at least offer an upgraded knob that includes one. I like how you bring up the bad as well as the good.
KICKER wants me to be honest with feedback and that's how I roll anyway so I let them know what I think. Does everyone agree? No, but doesn't change my opinion
@@wal I sure do appreciate the honesty. I never ran a system over 1k rms so I learned when you talked about undersized power and ground inputs during other amp reviews. There are prob a ton of people who learn a ton from your honest reviews. Keep up the good work!
@@walyou keep it honest, we all appreciate it. Salute 🫡 thanks for the great content, unbiased reviews, information, bench tests and most of all your time.
Awesome Amp! I love how it has a remote diagnostics display and they even thought to make it able to just throw over your backseat the wire for the remote bass knob --- (Livin loud everyday with bass knob in hand)
I had a Kicker amp back in the day and it was attached to a Stinger wiring system. These days I run sumthin a lil bigger!! I do have a fond respect and appreciation for their products! But this amp is juiced up!! I love settings and having a competition mode is cool. I’m happy they are still putting out great products!! Keep bumpin the subs Big D!
Another good one Big D! I recall a time when most people referred to their car subs as "kickers" whether or not the brand was actually kicker, Lol! Good opportunity to point out once you go over X wattage for a given setup, the actual gains in overall SPL/Db is marginal at best. Something about diminishing returns.
That's what's up papa Kicker 👏 I absolutely love the fact that Kicker is finally modernized flexing 💪 these days! Finally shutting them haters up and showing them who started the game here in the US. Them solo X's... definitely are on my list to use in a system on down the road. Papa Kicker is what got me started as a basshead back in 97. I'll always have mad mad respect for good ol papa Kicker!!
3:32 this is the first time where the review on the accessories was far more impressive I could have just stopped the video right there and been happy 😆 good job kicker
Back years ago I had a Zr600 Kicker amp and it was supposed to be 600 watts RMS @ 4 ohms bridged, but according to the factory test print out. It was actually putting out 850 watts RMS, I was running a pair of 12 inch Solobarics (the round ones). I never never had the SPL tested but it had enough force to put out a zippo lighter of someone in the front seat of my little 92 Celica GT. I had a all kicker setup running off a Kenwood echelon head unit with a motorized flip face, the entire system cost me less than half of retail offline from a wholesale site. Needless to say this shop that had all kinds of high end electronics, nearly had an brain aneurysm when they asked me what I had when I picked up the crossover module I ordered from them and then how much I payed. They had some kind of deal that they were the exclusive dealer for kicker products in the area and me paying $2500 for a system I priced while browsing there, would have been around $6000. They threw such a tantrum about their "exclusivity" deal with Kicker, that unless I told them what website I bought it from that I would be banned from the store. I laughed and said, "I already have everything I need from you and bye bye" as I waved walking out the door.
My next amplifier purchase will be for a unit with a clipping light. In a nut shell: I want to do an absolutely tiny, tiny amp setup. So I don't want to be blowing up speakers. What sucks is I believe it's only Rockville?? That makes most small amps with clipping LED's. I don't even want to touch the Brazilian amps. Anyone have a suggestion?.....25, or 40 watts per channel. Must be able to drive 2 ohm load. Crossovers a plus. But I can do passive.
@@MrBetaTubeYou don't actually need a tiny amp setup assuming you have self-control with the volume and bass knob. Or you can simply adjust your gain so that it would be impossible for it to clip.
Clip lights are really not needed you can hear subs make an awful sound and back it down before it ruins the sub or amp. Clip lights are like brake lights for blind people. Pointless.
@@c130aviatorAh, so people keep burning up subs for other reasons, huh? Make an awful sound, do they? You're entitled to your opinion, but don't come up here lying to people.
Got a feeling Kicker won’t be selling many of these, with todays class D cookie cutter amps being so cheaply made you could get a 5k amp for under 600.00
We will have to let the market decide. Keep in mind that there's only a tiny number of people who are going to buy giant amplifiers, anyway. For every Warhorse Kicker sales, I'm sure they'll sell 100 - 200 of their little CXA mono amps.
Wow I can’t believe they did the separate knob and diagnostic and didn’t include clipping indicator. Now you have to run another wire and mount two separate parts. I feel like this was a huge oversight especially for the amount of time and lead up to the amp coming out. Really surprising because they usually thinking about how to make things easier and more intergraded but this is the opposite of that and like old tech almost. Maybe there’s a reason and I’m missing it 🤷🏻♂️
I just noticed a change in the board design. It looks like the older board that Joes showing had four output FETs next to the big 80v yellow caps. The release Warhorse now has SIX of those FETs.
It's crazy...on the demo bronco in the beginning of video. Those square subs inverted looked like 3"round aircleaners atop of 6 intake manifolds. 😂 my eyes were messing with me for a second til i realized what I was looking at.
I hear ya, but 98% of amps with a clip LED go unused anyway. Everyone thinks they'll use it, then they set by ear anyway. Kicker said eff it, we'll save the 7 bucks. LOL
@@firebirdude2Set by ear? You must be referring to setting the gain. I'm not referring to that, I'm talking about listening to music and cranking it up. As your voltage dips your clip point changes and you want to make sure that you're not going to overheat your subs. That's the main use for the clip light.
14:24 I'm surprised you don't have a line driver. I know Phoenix Gold used to make them back in the day and they were really nice to have for oddball systems if I remember right it was called the PLD0O1
Ok. Just finished watching the power ratings and read some comments… here’s my initial take on this amp… it’s an “end game” car audio subwoofer amp that allows you to change/incorporate many different styles of subwoofers/box setups and also designed to be “end game” for “dummies” (not actual dummies, but for those of us who would rather install ONCE and forget). No clip light sucks, but again, if it’s designed for someone who has a nice newer ride and just wants a competent powerful and clean sounding amp that is probably never going to clip or under power whatever you throw at it, allows one to change out sub setups, and even allows for high level inputs, I think this is a really good solution! 🎉. Yes it’s expensive, but again, if I were selling this amp as a solution to a customer, I would recommend it to someone that just says, “gimme the best most powerful and reliable, cool clean amp for whatever subwoofers I want to add at any point, install it with all the power it needs, and from there on, I can just change out their speakers if they want more or less or whatever”. I’m sure the price will go down, and if so, at $600-$800, I think they could sell a lot of these amps! (Especially considering car audio is like 50% gp margins, lol) 🎉
I think its time i finally use my warhorse 10k its been sitting in the box lonely but i just received my 4 kicker solo x 12s i cant wait to get started on it
Ah, so each output is only 2 ohm rated. Gotcha. If you wire all the left coils in series that would be a 4 ohm load. Then all the right coils in series is 4 ohms. Is that the plan? Since it's 2 ohm stable you could get dual 2 ohm subs and wire the left coils in series parallel and get a 2 ohm load. That would get you more output if you wanted it. (This not taking into account impedance rise which is a whole other thing)
I was about to move past this video until I saw the separate bass control and digital status readout.. this is actually pretty legit! Especially if it hits the power specified!! 🎉 also, it looked like the bass knob had two lights on it?? Are those dots the clipping lights? 🎉 I have to say, for my high end “wish” system, I have to go with a definite BUY for this amp!! 🎉 the specs and durability and quality of this amp is well worth the cost!! Especially compared to what we used to get back in the day!!! 🎉 thank you!! 🎉
I never comment on your videos, but I do enjoy them . I do have to say that It's nice to see Kicker getting back to it's roots and getting away from being a Wal-Mart brand 👍
Loved the video Big D. Amazing to see original badass Warhorse next to baby Warhorse. Technology is amazing. The T2 may happen 😳 again thanks for the great videos. 👍😎
Yes, but it was also mentioned the amp can handle up to 17VDC when in COMP mode as opposed to 16VDC when it's not enabled. That came from the head amp engineer Joe Hobart at KICKER. But what you said is correct as well
Guys it is a class D amp. Clip lights were only 100% necessary for class A/B amps. I agree still a good to have but not absolutely required as they were on the old amps.
It's 25 cents a watt. That's cheaper than some of it's competitors (cough, Rockford, cough). Lol Of course the really cheap stuff is around 10 cents a watt. If your basshead on a budget you get what's cheapest. I don't think this amp is aimed at the basshead on a budget crowd. I think the Warhorse is more a "grown folks who have the money for nice things" amp.
@@dextermorgan1nah not at all & you're not buying the warhorse 3600.1, so what're you talking about? I really could buy 3 of them, but I'd rather get the best deal for the same wattage for my setup, if you must know my boy. I'll be giving my Jp23v2 to my girl & grabbing a Jp43 or Jp63 for my 4 Vxf's, definitely a deal
lol, at 8:46 you're holding the cert sheet and I have my cert sheet hanging up in my cubical at work. All the Passes are at the same exact angles as my sheet. I'm talking IDENTICAL and my amp is almost 5 years old. My amp model is the 46CXA800.1. Just looks like they didn't actually test if the amp passed the tests and are just baked in stamps on the cert.
More than likely the paperwork for each amplifier passes through a machine that stamps them. Another possibility is the passed stamp is pre-printed. Then the paperwork is matched up to the specific amplifier and only the serial number and power is printed on it. When you think about it, there's really no reason for a person to hand stamp each certificate.
Did you miss the part where the KICKER amps are tested 60 seconds at Full Output power? I don't think the SIA could do this, nor most other brands with an amplifier at this power output. You are paying more for the in house design with durability and reliability built in.
Should have clipping indicator everyone wants a clip monitor since they have been out ..reason I don't buy certain amps no clip monitor ..you can clip from other things other than gain not set correct
In 2008 that kicker amp was 9999 that’s crazy never catch me wasting that much hard earn money on an amp they was smokin when they came out with that price tag
I dont think Big D mentioned it but i heard when you put the amp into competition mode it shuts off all of the adjustments except subsonic filter. So dont play with it 😂
Can you imagine if chevy changed the corvette into a malibu, but still called it a corvette, but, it's a malibu.. 3600 watts is nowhere close to 10k... it's a sheep in wolf's clothing.
Well, you missed the mark. This amplifier is designed and engineered in the USA and assembled in Thailand. Amplifier manufacturing in the US is simply not practical anymore. Nor does it equate to it being a quality product.
@@puterg0dSo now you understand how one company doing something does not make it possible for every other company to do the same? You also realize that the quality of a product is not based on where the manufacturing takes place, but on how the work is done? You realize that China can produce the best quality products if they want to and America can produce absolute crap and vice versa? If so, that's great. 👍
Kicker makes an attempt at being big and buff but when it comes down to the quality..just not there. It's good but their price point doesn't match. The intention is expensive SPL which can easily be found in D4S, Taramps, Deaf Bonce, etc for less with similar quality
I wonder why? A lot of people these days are pushing their amplifiers to the limit. It seems like a clip light would prevent people from burning up their subwoofers. All you need is a simple voltage comparator circuit between your main voltage rails and the speaker output. I'm looking into adding clip lights into some of my older Rockford amps. In theory it should be cheap and easy for a big manufacturer to incorporate this into the design.
The KX amplifiers kinda had a clip light on the remote. Did any other models have one? I hope we can get somebody like Joe Hobart to really explain Kickers philosophy on clip indicators.
Man I don't know if that will happen. Manufacturers just don't rate at 12.6VDC like Orion did with that one. It was a 5kW amp at 14.4. This one is not far from 5kW at 14.4
@@JasonWW2000 just a personal preference. I'd rather have one cable to run than two , one box to mount than two. I'd be fine with it either way though.
@@JasonWW2000 it absolutely does. Sundown full bridge 3k is far cheaper than the salt 3k. Theirs a reason full bridge amplifiers like Taramps, Banda, Stetsom, etc. are all less expensive than their Korean made amplifiers.
@@chrstofuchaosYes, and I don't know if you understand why those brands are cheaper. I'll give you a hint, it's not because they are full bridge. Lol. And how exactly do you explain all of the very expensive full bridge amplifiers from companies like Alpine, JL Audio, Kicker, Digital Designs, etc...? Also, you're comparing Sundowns top of the line Salt series amplifiers to their entry level SFB. Their cheaper amps being full bridge is just a coincidence. It's actually not the reason it's cheaper.
@@JasonWW2000 and if you look at the reference series or half bridge designs by those same brands they are even more expensive. If I remember right JL slash series is the only one in the lineup that uses full bridge technology. And of course they aren't all equal, those brands are using higher end components and larger power supply sections. But to say the SFB amps aren't comparable to the Kicker full bridge design is not accurate. They have very similar topology. It's also not a coincidence that they are cheaper because they are full bridge. The fact is the Korean board's on the Salt amps are older Zenon designs and have more components and are more expensive than the Chinese built SFB amps using an original Soundigital design.
Kicker has there entry level gear and they have high end quality products, this is no exception. I guarantee its great amp that will last along time with proper power. The only thing I don't like is the underating, its birth sheet says 4600 why not call it a 4600.
The actual power output is going to vary from amp to amp so you have to give it a little headroom just to make sure it will do rated. 4,000-4,200 would probably be a safe bet. I can only speculate on why they chose 3,600. Maybe that's what it would typically do in the real world at slightly lower voltage?
You test the DB G7 2500.1? I have two just to run at 2 ohm strapped. Need to know if I can get more output with just one of these at same ohm load. If G7 does rated power or not……help!!!
