Meaning he can turn anything into rubber and turn rubber into anything. Rubber lightning, rubber goggles, rubber hose animation. Its still the gum-gum fruit, it just awakened

@Pochitaman30 that was not the explanation the elders haven't said anything about rubber. Oda stated in one of his sbs luffy has the power of imagination. So right now it's all rubber apart from a few abilities like the goggles organ gun where he duplicates his arms and all his flame attacks. His fruit is not a paramecia so its not strictly related to rubber that's just his body. Paramecia fruits only allow u to become or produce the thing u are. Logias allow u to change ur body component to that element which allows u to shoot that said element out of ur body. Zoans allow u to transform into the animal and use the perks the animal has. Mythical zoans allow u to transform into that said mythical creature and take on their physical qualities and their skills. Luffy has been able to grasp the most basic ability his fruit gives him. Nika has a rubber body but his power is imagination. Its just like how sengoku has a gold massive body but he doesn't produce gold but he causes shock waves when he punches. Because luffy has the power of imagination and he thinks his power is of a paramecia. He will obviously imagine a paramecia style awakening which he has as we see he can turn everything into rubber. But if u read the manga u would know vegunk said the gomu gomu fruit doesn't exist which means that his powers aren't strictly based off rubber it's just his body. And become vegapunk is there and he knows more about luffy's fruit than he does then luffy will defo grasp the true potential of gear 5

​@@michaelwilliams4024they literally stated that the users body gain the properties of rubber and strengthen them exponentially. I know the world government change the name of the gum-gum fruit when its actually a mythical zoan in disguised. But that doesnt take away much of what i said, he is still within the realm of his element. You could argue red hawk and kong organ is not normal but when did Luffy and the cast became normal, Zoro can summon 3 heads and 6 hands, Chopper can see target spots on the body, Ussop can literally change his facial expression to the point where he puts gear 5 toon force to shame. As far as the manga is concern they used the word "Rubber" and "Imagination", Luffy is not smart enough to realize what change but he is still affecting the environment around him

@Pochitaman30 As u said luffy isn't smart enough to realise his power but that's where vegapunk is introduced as we already see in the manga he knows something about nika and can potentially be a key for luffy grasping what his powers are capable of and what he can actually do
