Sounds like some sort of naturally occurring gas leak.....purple color is lack of oxygenation to the skin. Flash of light could be ignition of the chemical or gas. Entire villages have died from such things.

Nah, I’ve got an actual theory. I don’t know why this popped into my head or even if it’s scientifically correct, but I remembered that the ozone layer and other layers in the atmosphere protect us from the Sun’s full rays. I was thinking that maybe, just maybe, over on that side of the Earth, there’s some small cracks that appear sometimes and allow the sun to fully exert itself, so those flashes of light coming from the sky, that red light, could just be sun rays flashing and hitting someone. That could explain why the burn was so bad and unrecoverable. Since it was just a temporary crack in the ozone layers, it didn’t torch them immediately, it just flashed on them and fried these people over time. Honestly, don’t know if this is possible since it just popped in my head, but I feel like it could be the solution to the mystery.

I thought the holes in the ozone was only in the south pole and the holes in the ozone wasn't that big a problem in the 40s it was more of a 70s-80s problem

@@abdurrahmandureng there are plenty of species that we know of, that can give us the sensation of burning alive (including plants), let alone un-discovered species in the amazonian bush. That bright flash of light could have been from hallucinations, that were caused by the venom. I mean, there is literally a toad that u touch and u will go through a full psycho-active experience. The amount of undiscovered species in the amazon is insane, especially considering how many endemic species can live around you, but not the next town over.
