McDonalds used to literally give out mini hand held video games and actually cool gimmicky toys. I miss those days. Edit: I gotta say, Taco bell had some great toys in the early 2000's too from what I remember.
@@abbymockensturm7682growing up in the 2000s in Russia it really was like a delicacy. Unlike in America, the food there costs waaay more than it would cost to cook a meal at home so it was kinda seen as higher class. Kids would love to celebrate birthdays there and shit😂
I used to work at Chickfla, and something that you can do is that kids can trade in their toys for ice cream cones if they want. Most kids I served did that option instead of having the toy, and you don’t even have to pay extra. Is basically a free ice cream.
You dont need a certain amount of toys to trade for an ice cream cone/cup. However many toys you have, you can trade in for that many ice cream cups/cones.
I got Gerald from Hey Arnold in my wendys kid meal as a kid. I gave it to my grandpa and he left it in the window of his station wagon all the way up until he died like 15 years later. "I dont know what that toy is from, but the boys gave it to me so I kept it there."
Growing up in the early 2000s/2010s McDonald’s used to go crazy with toys. I’m talking Hot Wheels, Madagascar, Megamind, Monsters vs Aliens, How to train your dragon, Kung fu panda… you get the idea.
I still remember getting some sweet Mighty Morphin Power Rangers toys in the mid 90s. So cool. Also Burger King had amazing toys back in the 90s and early 2000s, like Pokemon and Dragonball Z.
Coming from a Panda Express worker, the reason why there is little meat in the Brocili and Beef is because we use twice the amount of brocili as to beef for the recipe. If you want a better kids meal, get cho mein or fried rice with orange chicken.
I'm nearly 47, so way older than you guys and I'll tell you about my favorite kids meal. When I was a kid I had a McDonald's happy meal with red and blue filters on one side. You got a 3-d comic strip to feed through the other side. It was a legit 3-d comic strip. That was cool af to a little kid. I recall playing with the box for days after the food was literally a turd.
Fun fact: last month Burger King in Russia had a kid meal with up to 4500 robux in it, it kinda a good deal because meal costs 300 roubles while if you buy robux directly it will cost 3500 roubles, but the catch is that not every meal will contain robux some of them will only contain current for burger king's place in roblox, so basically burger king makes profit on gambling addiction among kids, that shit is crazy
Littlest Pet Shop trading was a huge market in elementary school. Everyone was begging their parents to take them to McDonalds for those when I was a kid
In 2004, I remember getting a toy from McDonald's that was an actual Hot wheel with underglow and a whole ass section of track. One could argue there was never any quality but somehow that quality went down.
I used to work at Chipotle and nobody ever bought the kids meal or even really knew of its existence so those chocolate milks sat in the back for WAAAY longer than they probably should, and they're "shelf stable" too, so they're just sitting on the shelf next to the boxes. We were supposed to chuck them after the expiration date but half the time whoever went to get it didn't even check it. I'm not surprised it tasted nasty.
I was a GM for Chipotle for 10 years here in Texas. Plenty of people know about it, they just know it’s a rip off unless you try and pull a food hack and basically get a bowl for half the price. The chocolate milk has a shelf life of 14 days even though the carts themselves have much longer expiration dates. You’re supposed to date the boxes they come in with a sharpie. Soon as the UTD is reached you’re supposed to through it out. Doesn’t surprise me about your experience though. After getting forced to go help out other stores in need I saw some crazy food violations. Unwashed lettuce, chicken, rice, beans, etc sitting on the line for hours not even meeting temperature. List goes on. Bottom line. Don’t eat at Chipotle.
@@TheCavemanBrown it happens in other fast food places, sincerely a McDonald's worker (although i am from a different country so might be different in the US who knows)
I also worked at chipotle for a short period of time and I didn’t even know that they had a kids meal until this video. We only had these small “kid” chip bags that had exactly five chips inside. They always seemed to have me primarily cooking and bags chips so I’ve had the amounts they want in each bag size engrained in my mind, and yes they are very particular about the amount of chips are in each bag. I never ate chipotle food prior to working there, mostly because it’s overpriced and I could make the same thing at home for cheaper and with less worry of getting sick from contamination. Of course, I can only speak of the chipotles in my area. I only know of two and they both have two star ratings. I will never work for or eat at a chipotle again.
@@Cameron-fv2xc Most the time they do. Most KMs are lazy and don’t give a fuck anymore about FIFO and rotating every time a truck comes in. That goes for damn near everything at some stores. One time I worked a shift at the worst rated store here in Dallas and there was chicken that had expired 2 months ago.
I feel like I'm the only person who likes Long Johns lol. Everything is deep fried so I'm not afraid to eat it. Their hush puppies used to be better though.
@@OakNugginsI had long John silver as a child and I like it too. Could just be my taste buds got accustomed to it. Don't get it often due to them being closed down nearby where I live. Still last time I had it I liked it lol
I've always enjoyed Long John Silvers, My parents always took my sister and I as a kid and we always looked forward to our fish and root beer hah.@@OakNuggins
I remember the wait for food went by so fast because I was studying the toy display, deciding which I hoped to get. My family didn't even get fast food that often and I had so many toys. As I got older I used them as rewards or treats for kids I tutored or babysat. However I am aware some were thrown away very quickly and it's a lot of waste.
10:53 The gold tablets that came in the pokeballs were actually from Burger King. Burger King used to actually be the best when it came to cool toys and unique foods for their kids menu (green ketchup/purple and others). Their downfall is crazy.
You can tell that this is a legitimate study. They’re wearing hats according to their hypothetical ages. Great work on your achievement. -Harvard or smth
Which is silly considering we have this funny thing called school that's supposed to be teaching kids those things, though I see why they need it in kid's meals now, since schools are failing at that.
Matt tells Arby's to salt their food. Arby's has 9 individual items on their menu that have more sodium than you are supposed to eat in an entire day. 48 items have more than 1/2 the salt you are supposed to have in a day. Their worst item (Sausage Gravy Biscuit Double) has almost 2x the daily allowance of sodium (3,540mg).
I also remember they had some cool Wild Wild West toys for that awful Will smith movie. It used to be you went to BK if you liked you kids. Now it’s borderline child abuse if you take your child there for a kids meal.
Here in the UK (and Europe, I think) McDonalds don't use any plastic in their toys anymore. It's a choice between a book of some sort or cards usually.
Where im from MCdonalds stopped including toys and you have to pay to get it. BK tho includes it with every king jr or whatever their kids meal is called.
I miss the good ol days of the 90’s when Fastfood Kids’ Meals gave you Animated Disney movie toys, Sonic toys, Batman toys, and my favorites in Summer of 2001 we got Exclusive Bionicle characters from the Mata Nui Adventure Online Game in our McDonald’s happy meals and in Winter of 2001 we got LOTR light up and talk figures you could connect into a giant diorama surrounding the One Ring at Burger King … those were the days. As an adult I still have those displayed on my Nerd shelf. Kids today are missing out
They got rid of the toys at Burger King?! I'm not surprised honestly, but it really disappoints me, I got most of my golden SpongeBob toys there as a kid.
we used to get handheld games, pc games, figurines etc in the happy meal. I remember getting a jumping horse once. Now we mostly get paper stuff. In parts of east asia they still do fun collabs with sanrio and other companies and the toys are still fun. 😭
The Burger King mascot is probably too busy looking for Burmese pythons in the Everglades to give a fuck about the quality that's coming from the restaurants.
The 101 Dalmatians McDonald's toys from the 90s were my most favorite of all. I have a Digimon toy I got from Burger King in the early 2000s as well. There were some really great toys back in the day!
I am happy that I grew up in the 90s. We often went to trips with my elementary class and always went to McDonald's. They always had toys from Disney movies and we bought more than one Happy Meal and exchanged the toys. We collected so much stuff, like Pokemon and Dragon Ball cards, toys in Kinder Chocolate Egg, etc.
In defensive culvers. If you save 10 tokens, you get cool. Gear like mascot, stuffed animals, Culver's branded sports balls Or a free kid's meal. So even though there's not a toy In the meal, over time, you can get some cool stuff. My little sister loves the Culver's mascot plushy. I got her like a year ago
Best Happy Meal ever was the different Matoran from Bionicle. I told my dad i needed all 6 for my collection amd he took me probably 10 times in a week to make sure we got them all.
I think part of the reason there’s a lack of toys is because Hollywood doesn’t make as many movies made for kids anymore. It feels like almost everything coming out these days is at least PG-13+, so there’s not that many movies for fast food places to do partnerships for toys with. I remember McDonald’s always updated their toys pretty frequently when I was a kid, and they usually had something to do with a movie or tv show.
Or the fact that kids have tables and phones in their faces and legit don’t play with toys anymore. Plus gaming consoles. The early 2000s/2010s was the last of the golden years
Trust me there’s A LOT of entertainment directed towards kids, including movies and animated shows. They’re mostly in streaming platforms or on RU-vid. Every time I hang out with my nephews they’re always into some new franchise I’ve never heard of
the one pickle on the McDonalds burger is intentional btw, the "proper" way to make a single cheese or hamburger is one pickle. Everything else is supposed to get two.
10:54 when Charlie brings up the golden cards that McDonald's used to release I had a golden charizard exactly like that and I don't know where that is it pisses me off that I lost something that was so cool this video just reminded me of that and I didn't even know it was from McDonald's till now.
I remember the Happy Meal promotion they did for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, I think I still have either the Anakin toy or the Ventress toy laying around in my house somewhere.
25:45 I've been saying this forever about games and movies. People be like it doesn't matter if it's dogshit it's just for kids. Bruh kids deserve good things as well tf lol
Funny story this morning on his way to school, my 7 yr old son seen your thumbnail (sees it all the time on my recommended) and asked why I like to the watch the “woooo yea babyyyy” guy 😂
You should do a tier list on some cheese cakes. I had a homemade one with strawberry syrup and diced strawberries on top. It wasn't as sweet as I thought but it would be amazing.
