This was my first time re tuning a full set of chime and strike rods, and i’m super happy with the result. This clock was stored outside for over 30 years so i’m glad I was able to bring it back from the dead.
It's a great clock! I'm happy that you managed to restore it and tune those chime rods! I'm still surprised that they actually produce sounds in that condition...
Soaking in Evaporust for 24 hours to remove the rust and wash off the coil gong/ steel chime rods with dish soap and it will regain their tune& sonority.
So exciting to hear of another clock being rescued from oblivion! Quite a different set of chimes on this particular Kienzle, at least in comparison to most of their usual wall clock gongs. Quite lovely though, congrats!
I have a Hermle that would strike 13 at 1 o’clock then 2 and so on. I just had to adjust the rack and it was fine there after. It’s still running to this day. Had it since 2009 and it the movement is dated 1967.
