Ren and Sam met while out busking. Both have talked about it. Sam was only about 16 and was busking with no equipment while his mates filmed him on their phones to make him look popular. Ren was on his way home and heard Sam singing. He stopped and offered Sam his mic and amp, and sat down to play guitar while Sam sang. He let Sam keep all the money they made that afternoon so he could put it towards some equipment of his own. ❤ There's a clip from the day they met in Sam's song Time Will Fly.

Ren had just finished his busking session and Sam’s voice caught his attention. Ren went up to him after a song. Sam couldn’t play guitar and didn’t have an amp, so Ren offered to play with him but said Sam could keep whatever money they received from busking. Someone caught the very first song they performed together on video … look up “First time Sam Tompkins and Ren play together.” Little did they know what this chance encounter would do for both of them! Ren’s story is inspirational on many many levels

While I don't think Ren can go quite as high Sam's falsetto, Ren can go a lot lower so he has a wider range overall I believe.
