I think people don’t realize that the story in essence is about love that transcends time. Kikyo and Kagome are the same soul, not the same person. Kikyo actually wanted to be like Kagome she wanted to be a normal girl without the huge responsibility that she had. Her wish was granted when she was reborn as Kagome, Kagome is a complete opposite of kikyo. What people fail to realize is that Inuyasha and Kikyo’s love was so strong that they found their way back to each other even though Kikyo was reincarnated as Kagome.
You have a strong point of view, for years I was thinking in a wrong way the final that has Kikyo, as a suffering and painful style of life. She is kind of a mentor to me, not for the hate or the dark and contradictorious thoughts that she has, it-s because all the love and that responsability that she is strongly commited to. I adoppeted that style of life for my security in a vulnerable period of my life that I-m living right now...
Kikyou is one of the most layered female characters I've seen, she can be pure and loving, yet she has hatred and harbors a deep vengeance. She wants to protect the innocent but also harvests the souls of the dead to stay alive. She knows she's no longer human but still acts like it to her full effect. One of the most tragic and amazing characters in Rumiko's world.
I don't think she did nothing wrong she's just human it's not a fair faith given but she accepted it because she knew she was the only one that could a rare one indeed. Luka Maruigi Inuyasha is a shit show to and is like twice as long, I say seven deadly sins is way better in terms of story and animation , including season 3. Different taste I suppose. Steins gate is pretty great tho
People who hated kikyo didn't understand her sole desire to be an ordinary women. She was truly the best character in the entire anime if you ask me. She wanted one thing, but could never achieve it, until her death, where she finally got to be an ordinary women, just once. She had the best character arc in the entire show.
Honestly Kikyo's pain is a lot worst than Kagome's pain seeing inuyasha getting his mind and heart occupied with her. I love this series. Later I have just realized that the series was just circling around these three "Inuyasha, kikyo and Naraku".

Kikyo is hands down my favorite Inuyasha character, and one of my favorite anime characters of all time. I feel like she is so underrated/hated. I feel like a lot of people shipped Inuyasha/Kagome so hard they couldn’t get past their dislike of another woman he loved in the past and still had feelings for. Her character arc and redemption was amazing.
I ship kagome/inuyasha but Kikyo is definitely one of my favourite characters. It's kind of a shame some people don't really give her chance because of that ship though.
I feel like the series was set up to portray Kikyo to be that evil ex-girlfriend who's crashing down on Inuyasha/Kagome's happy relationship (even though Kikyo didn't have that intention). Think about how the other characters (particularly Shippo) constantly accused Inuyasha of two-timing Kagome. Not to mention the way Inuyasha would brazenly dump Kagome without a second though to chase after Kikyo. It made me hate Inuyasha (and consequently, Kikyo too). These accusations combined with the emotional toll this had on Kagome kind of set the stone for the crowd to develop a bias against Kikyo.
Even though the "two-timing" drama was a huge turn off for me, I did actually like Kikyo much more than Kagome as a person. People can argue with me on this but I think that Kikyo had the most kindhearted soul out of all the Inuyasha characters. For one thing, she seemed to have a special affinity with kids that no other anime characters really had. Everywhere she went, kids always took a liking to her very quickly. It was a really heartbreaking when Kikyo decided to distance herself from human society because of the cruel reality behind her revival. She clearly loved kids which made it more painful to watch. She was also someone who hated violence/cruelty (her leniency towards Inuyasha and Onigumo is proof of that). Besides the time that she was tricked by Naraku, she never used excessive force against Inuyasha and always tried to reason with people (Unlike Kagome who is guilty of abusing the power of Subjugation Beads to no end). She never saw her priest powers as a privilege and was even willing to give it up.
like many others i disliked kikyo at first and grew to love her. i do like her more than kagome but i still think inuyasha & kagome should be together lol. i think many viewers unfairly judge her based off her actions after she was brought back from the dead thinking someone she loved had betrayed her. ep 147-148 expand on her relationship with inuyasha in the past and kikyo as a character and are probably what made me love her so much
Kikyo will always be my favorite female in all Anime, She tried her best to help and pleased everyone around her. Her death will always be unforgotten. ♥

I have to wonder.....at the end of a very long day....does Inuyasha still love Kikyo more than Kagome? Kagome is very sweet, but Kikyo is a more complex person and his first love. If Kikyo could be fully alive again, I wonder if he would chose her over Kagome.

This song was playing when Kikyo finally felt important in the eyes of Inuyasha and was about to put that lipstick he got her.. Inuyasha was willing to live like a human for her and desired to steal the Shikon Jewel so Kikyo can live a normal life with him, until...Naraku full of jealousy destroyed that relationship and pit them against each other.. truly sad..

she is absolutely divine. Full of divine power and in the end she went back to the divine. Always giving back to others, putting herself last. She deserves ultimate happiness.
When I saw kikyo for the first time I hated her. I was young (maybe 11) so I didn’t like her since she tried to separate kagome and inuyasha but when I watched this anime again at the age of 19 I finally understood what she was going through and I fell in love with her. I honestly think she’s the most realistic character in Inuyasha.
I think I was in my 20s when I first saw this show and realized how noble and beautiful and human she was...IMO when you're in your teens you may not have the losses and wisdom scars of life that would let you appreciate a woman of Kikyo's caliber

Kikyo is one of my favorite fictional characters. I couldn't really vibe with kagome cause I've seen so many similar female characters like her. But Kikyo was so much more complex in her actions. When I first watched Inuyasha as a kid I had never seen a female character have depth like that and it blew my mind lol. 💐
I actually grew to really like Kikyo's character; her circumstances were heartbreaking, but, in the end, she proved to be one of the heros. That is the reason I'm hoping they don't bring her back in Yashahime. She deserves to finally be at peace, whatever that may mean for the character.
Though i was expecting she would still be alive and have her own peaceful life while she is fine with inuyasha and kagome and hope that she would had met her true love life😭😭 kikyo deserves better but i'm ok with her state of being free❤
Inuyasha is such an underrated anime. Absolutely the most beautiful anime series I’ve ever watched. I’ve re watched it 3 times and it has never failed to make me ball my eyes out towards the end.
this is my third time watching it. i watched it as a kid and me and my friends just thought it was a cool anime about slaying demons. watching it as an adult, im glad i can appreciate the themes of love and loss that the show portrays.

It took a long time to realize that the connection between Kagome and Kikyo goes deeper than just being a reincarnation of the other. Kikyo must've wished on her dying breath with that sacred jewel that she could have another chance at a life with no responsibilities with Inuyasha, and that's what Kagome got. When you think of it that way it seems really all the more sad when the clay Kikyo took her moments with Inuyasha, to get a taste of the life she left behind and would never have again
Of course, the Jewel never granted one their true wish, at most it twists it. Kikyo's modest wish of seeing Inuyasha again and being a normal woman was fulfilled only so the Jewel could keep on existing. And it was fulfilled in the form of a reincarnation that got to travel back in time. Then again, Onigumo never even got his wish fulfilled, even in a twisted form, since as Naraku he killed Kikyo, and the only way he could be with her soul would've been with Naraku and Kagome being forced to take Magatsuhi's and Midoriko's places in the sacred jewel. All in all, Kagome did the right thing when she wished for that thing to disappear forever.

Her song reminds me of the seasons changing. Specifically fall to winter, it is peaceful and calming whilst being cold and dangerous. In my mind it fits Kikiyo perfectly.
agreed! as a 90's kid, sure I grew up watching Dragonball, Yu Yu Hakusho, Fist of north star and many others. But Inuyasha always had this special place in me. It taught me what true love meant. Kikyou ... When I watched the anime for the first time, I hated her. But now, watching again after more than ten years, I simply love the way she portrays her thoughts and feelings. God, she is so strong, deep and ambiguous! I think she has become my favorite character.

Kikyo was hated? What? I really loved Inuyasha as a kid and Kikyo was probably always my favourite character. As a kid I was absolutely stunned by her beauty as well as her mysterious and tragic persona.
Kikyo was a fascinating character to me, to be honest, she was always a favorite when I first watched this anime and she remains so to this very day. She is definitely a tragic but badass character imo I don’t get why she is hated for petty reasons :( one of them being, because she wanted to be with the man she loved dearly...

I can understand the hatred she gets but at the end of it you really can't hate her for the way she is. She didn't wish to be like that. Her plans were foiled and she was fooled into believing she had been betrayed. Tragic character honestly. This is probably one of my favorite themes. It fits Kikyo so well. Hope everyone is well.

Poor Kikyo. Her story was a tragedy, she lost her true love thanks to Naraku's evil actions. Even if Kagome is her reincarnation, Kikyo will never experience that love, her story was ruined... damn Naraku... he did it very well as a villain. he knew he would never get Kikyo's love so he probably thought "if she's not for me, then nobody else will have her" he was successful in that aspect.
I cried so much when tears fell down from her eyes when inuyasha was kissing her. Maybe because she realized that it will be their last, Inuyasha and Kikyo's love story was definitely the best for me but its sad and tragic.

That lead me to some theories which said, Kikyou and Inuyasha didn’t trust each other enough. That's why they fell into the trap. But wait, wasn't that trap so sophisticated? Realmente para mí el final fue cuando ella murió, Inuyasha era muy maduro a lado de Kikyo, la escena de su muerte hizo que derramara lágrimas como a muchos me imagino, sin embargo el último capítulo del anime no sentí nada, de hecho no me gustó, hubiera preferido que Kagome hubiera quedado en su mundo. Kikyo dio su vida para destruir a al enemigo y ella era a quién más temía Naraku.

Kikyo es mi personaje favorito, y me siento muy identificada con ella, sobretodo por su soledad. Ella era una mujer cuyo destino era ser protectora de una perla, lo cual era una gran responsabilidad, eso y el ser una sacerdotisa no le permitían tener una vida ordinaria como cualquier aldeano. Al conocer a Inuyasha ella se enamoró y por la maldad de Naraku provocó una separación y su muerte. Con el tiempo ella supo que al volver nunca sería igual y decidió volver a morir para que Inuyasha estuviese con Kagome, ya que ella es su reencarnación actual. No pudo estar con Inuyasha en su vida, pero si en su reencarnación. Muchos la odian, pero yo la admiro, es muy madura y sacrifica lo que siente por el amor. Eso es amar.

May be the first cut is the deepest cut. Kikyou wasn’t only the first woman he loved but also the way they ended up their relationship 50 years ago painful enough to make no one could forget. That’s the feel of depth IMO. In the presence, perhaps his feeling for Kikyou isn’t that much but 50 years ago, it was true love I guess!
I read inu when I was 12 years old. I like the sad stories, the fate of life, the good and evil exist and produce each other. I like the fate of being bound and buried by destiny, love and hatred. I do not love the love of anybody, I just like the shades in the corner of life. And that's why I like kikyo, she's so beautiful, so lonely, so cold but so kind, so strong but so weak!

Amo el personaje de Kikyō, una vida trágica sólo dedicada a responsabilidades que le absorbían su tiempo por completo, aquella mujer imperturbable y valiente que cuando conoce el afecto sella su muerte, un amor no concluído. Mi crush en el anime. 🤗😂

Beautiful and poetic music, it completely fits this tragic movie. Yeah, it's a cartoon, but I used to love and dream about it when I was a littke child as now, that I am an adult. Always wanted to change my life and to transport myself in ancient times. I am not changed. This is what I'm learning watching again to this cartoon!

I started watching this anime with my younger sister and we both used to hate kikyo but her death really made us cry....this was the second time we cried together over something.... It made us realize that judging others by their deeds is not really a good thing to do... This anime taught many things..the scene when inuyasha said that his half human ancestry made him to carry on the fight for someone he loves(kagome)..is really one of those lessons
To be completely honest, I didn't like Kikyo at all at first. But later on when I found out Kagome was the reincarnation of Kikyo, I really felt sad after her backstory being told. Kikyo is pretty much by far the most emotionally stable woman who has been into a huge despair. I kinda like to see that Kikyo died another time because she was happy that Kagome was the reincarnation Kikyo wanted her to be. And Kikyo was the anger and despair she wanted to get rid of. I don't think "kikyo" was entirely herself. The soul of kikyo was kagome, her reincarnation. She was everything kikyo wanted to be for herself, care free and be able to love inuyasha. The kikyo of the series were fragments and memories of kikyo's life and previous lifes were she suffered. I kinda was happy that those fragments of kagome's soul were able to heal, though forgiveness and love. But kikyo got another change to be with inuyasha, through kagome. After all, it is save to say that kikyo and inuyasha were soulmates.

I would like to think that the exact circumstances of Kikyo's reincarnation into Kagome was the universe/powers that be giving her the most merciful circumstances they could; she got to reincarnate as the ordinary girl she always wanted to be, while still having the chance to reunite with the person she loved, and she had the choice to re-awaken her power or let it sleep. Too bad Urasue fucked it up. Poor Kikyo...
I used to hate Kikyo when I was younger because she got in the way of Kagome and Inuyasha romantically. Growing up and watching it again, there was so much more to her.
