Kilchurn castle sits on a rocky outcrop at the northern end of Loch Awe, just off the A82, not far from Dalmally, Scotland. Originally the home of the Campbells of Glen Orchy (later the Earls of Breadalbane) and built in the mid 15th Century. by the late 1700s it was a barracks for some 200 Government troops. After 1745 the castle gradually fell into disrepair and was badly struck by lightning during a storm in 1760 dislodging a large part of a turret, which can be seen in the video laying in the courtyard. The castle was subsequently abandoned. The castle is now looked after by Historic Scotland.
