"Please explain to me rock salt" 🧐 Shotgun shells are normally filled with little metal pellets of various size - 'shot' (buckshot, birdshot, etc). Instead of pellets, filling the shells with chunks of unprocessed 'rock' salt will produce a less penetrating hit, and is generally intended to wound or scare, not 😵 Her face is all white because of the salt powderizing on impact with her jacket, so she's also blinded in that moment. Though Kiddo is wearing a leather jacket she catches the blast at point blank range 🤕, so the salt probably got a centimeter or two into her and salt buried in the skin is incredibly painful.
Just throwing in, in case it's not clear or known to anyone, but salt on an open wound burns and stings like you don't want to know. And buried/stuck within one's flesh (such as with rock salt) would bring lingering pain.
The fights in these films were choreographed by the legendary Yuen Woo-ping. A martial arts filmmaker who has collaborated w/ the likes of Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh, Donnie Yen, & Chow Yun-fat in Hong Kong. Hollywood finally sought him out in the late 90s & early 2000s w/ The Matrix trilogy. His other internationally popular works include the action sequences of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon & Kung Fu Hustle.
@@kociaarkadia but also, the mamba is low on venom after striking Budd multiple times 😅 it isn't in a state to defend itself... but I like to think that it bit Elle at least once before wandering off and ruling the desert 🏜
Lol Kemi's reactions are so geniune and heartfelt but may sometimes be slightly hilarious as well .... For example her *reactions to:* 1. The "Delivery/Birthing" scene from *A Quiet Place* 2. The "Stepping On The Nail on The Stairs Scene" (from the same film) 3. The "Beheading of Nagini scene" from the final Harry Potter (I think Kemi runs out of the room in that one) 4. The scene where "Penelope" loses her virginity in an episode of Bridgerton. 5. Any Romantic film when a particular scene makes the "Fan come out" 6. Revelation of the identity of the supposed "White Wizard" (certain character thought to have died in a previous scene revealed to be alive) from a certain *Lord of the Rings* movie.
The fight between Pai Mei and Kiddo is all about the martial arts adage - 'a full cup cannot hold water' which has been famously reworded by Master Yoda into "You must unlearn what you have learned!" An arrogant student has to be emptied/humbled before they can learn from a true master. Many martial arts movies use this - my fave would be Drunken Master, with Jackie Chan (very funny kung fu movie)
The way Beatrix utters “you don’t even have a future” before ripping Elle’s only other eye out and leaving her for dead in the middle of nowhere will never seize to floor me. Left her defenceless with with that black mamba 🐍😂
Pai Mei is the same Pai Mei--he's a kind of stock character (the same type of person found in a lot of stories), particularly in Chinese xianxia in which individual persons gradually break free of nature's restrictions and become immortals with supernatural powers through personal strength, martial arts training, magic, and a bit of good fortune. Their world is one of "kill or be killed", so Pai Mei being over 1000 years old is proof that he's pretty strong.
Pai Mei is not a title that is his name he has been around for all those years he is just that old he is shrouded in mystery to who or what he really is
I've said it for many, many years now... do not fight anyone unless you have no other choice to defend yourself... and never disrespect any man with cauliflower ears lol
13:55, I feel like Bud is living a life of repentance because of living as a high paid assassin. Plus hearing that the baby was Bill's probably ended his desire to live like that.
20:13, if you are not aware David Carradine who plays Bill is most famous in the martial arts movies and television. During the 1970's he played a half white/half Chinese Shaolin monk named Kwai Chang Caine on the classic tv show Kung Fu. The show took place in the Old West of America. Though a pacifist by teaching, as a Shaolin monk Kwai Chang is also a master of Kung Fu. Because Kwai Chang ended the Emperor's nephew to avenge the death one of his masters, he flees China for the America in the 1870's. Once in America he searches for his half brother Danny Caine while staying one step ahead of the Chinese bounty hunters. Each episode would find Kwai Chang having an adventure in a different frontier town. The flute that David Carradine is playing in this scene is an homage to the flute his Kung Fu character also played. I've heard over the years that martial arts legend Bruce Lee originally came up with the idea of show mixing cowboys and Kung Fu. But the tv heads at the time wouldn't greenlight a tv show with a real Chinese man as the lead actor. So he dropped it and went abroad. Warner Bros then took the idea and ran with it. In the 1990's there was a syndicated tv series sequel to Kung Fu called Kung Fu: The Legend Continues that took place in modern times. It also starred David Carradine as the grandson of the original Kwai Chang Caine.
Movie Suggestions. Turner & Hooch starring Tom Hanks Death Becomes Her starring Bruce Willis First Knight starting Richard Gere The Craft starring Neve Campbell
No, it's the same Pai Mei. Pai Mei has obviously found a way to remain alive that long. An active, healthy life with a dose a Eastern medication, and meditation I would presume.
One theory about Pai Mei's longevity is that he has mastered control of his "Qi" energy. Gordon Liu nailed the role perfect. In his earlier films (Shaw Brothers era) he was always fighting Pai Mei. Now he IS Pai Mei!
Pai Mei is played by Martial Arts Legend Gordon Liu. He also played the leader of the Crazy 88's, General Johnny Mo (Bald Head and Kato Mask) in Part 1. Another Actor who played 2 roles was Michael Parks who played the Texas Ranger with all the sunglasses in his Patrol Car in Part 1 and the Pimp Estaban in Part 2. When Beatrix tried to hit Pai Mei with a rock he threatened to chop off her arm. He lets her keep her arm but says that it belongs to him now. So during the fight between Beatrix and Elle, Pai Mei's arm snatched Elle's eye.
"Definitely not the one." Well, Eastern mythology has the concept of immortals, who through their arts have trancended mortality - they can be killed, but they no longer suffer aging, disease, etc. Taoist mysticism is related to that, if you can become in harmony with everything, immortality may be yours. There are traditionally Eight Immortals in Chinese mythology, but Pai Mei is not one of them - however, their supposed existence implies that other immortals could be possible. A much more tongue-in-cheek movie with martial arts, including supernatural martial arts and magic and immortals, is "Big Trouble In Little China" - highly recommend it as a fun watch.
The "Boss face-offs" got more personal as the 2 part movie moved forward. Budd gave us foreshadowing when he said to Beatrix "Here's for breaking my brother's heart." He didn't know that Beatrix would end up breaking his brother's heart for real. Elle is angry that a loser like Budd got to take out a warrior like Beatrix. She used a black mamba to kill him. Since Black Mamba is Beatrix's code name, it is symbolic that black mamba killed Budd. Elle was Bill's current love interest, but she knew that Bill had still loved Beatrix more. This fight was very personal. Exactly as you said - Beatrix lets Elle know that she isn't even worth the honor of death at the hands of a warrior. Perhaps the black mamba snake in the camper will do the honors? Elle's code name was California Mountain Snake. This snake is not venomous. Ironically, poison and venom are the tools Elle liked to use. She tried to poison comatose Beatrix when Bill's phone call stopped her. She used the black mamba to kill Budd. She poisoned Pai Mei's food to kill him. Also ironically, both the black mamba & California mountain snake are not vipers even though both code names belonged to The Deadly Viper Assassination Squad. This shows us that both Beatrix and Elle had something in common. They were both Bill's lovers.
16:30 rock salt shells are just that. shells filled with rock and salt. my uncle and his friends were stealing oranges and he took a rock salt shell in the ass climbing back over the fence from the farmer, its said sting a lot so taking two in the chest at that close ranger....yeah
When Beatrix tried to kill Pai Mei with a rock and he defeated her he became the "owner" of her arm. in the fight with Elle it was Pai Mai arm that took Elle's eye, There was going to be a Part 3 (20 yeears later) where a grown BB and Beatrix had to face a grown Nikki (the little girl from Part 1), Elle who survives the Black Mamba (Professional Curtesy?) and Sophie Fatale (now with Bionic Limbs). Sadly it never happened. Same thing with Django Part where Django teams up with Zorro. I have the script for Django Part 2,
46:30, I think the most uneasy scene of this movie is watching Bill make that sandwich. I kept thinking at any moment he was going to attack. But he is just a doting father making a late night snack for his little girl. I think in his own twisted way, Bill feels bad for what he did to Beatrix. He got a little intoxicated before they had their showdown. I think this was intentionally done so that he wasn't at his best. Despite his advanced age I think Bill is probably still pretty deadly. He even explains to their daughter what he did to her mom. I think he did this so that BB would understand later why he was no longer around. Also she wouldn't grow to resent her mother Beatrix.
I wouldn’t have thought you would like this movie so much. I’m so glad you did because it’s one of my favorite films and you helped me to see some of it in a new way and for that I am truly grateful. Thanks for the reaction!

On horror movies... I generally don't do horror. Growing up, I would talk all through the films, starting to root for the baddie, because most of the people in them were "too stupid to live". I got banished from a lot of rooms where people were watching horror films. 😂 There were a few classics that I actually enjoyed, like 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956 & 1978)' and 'Night of the Living Dead (1968)'. A recent one that I loved was 'Ready or Not (2019)'. I watched a few summaries of the film first. I knew the basic story and all the goriness, so I finally decided to watch the full movie to fill in the blanks. ❤
This one was way better than he first for me. It was more story, character, and dialogue driven than Vol 1. Fact: Samuel L Jackson's character here is the same character he played in Pulp Fiction. Jules walked the Earth and God finally had him where he wanted him to be. Don't think Bill bought Elle's story about the Mamba. Bill's stance on Superman is wrong, too. Clark Kent isn't a critique of the human race. He represents his desire to be a part of it. He was Kal-El of Krypton before anything else, and however short a time it was.
Everyone always thinks Karen Kim has a knife in her arm. If you watch closely she uses the butt of the shot gun to stop the knife that Beatrix throws at her head, so the knife is stuck in the butt of the shot gun not her arm.
Kemi watch these martial arts movies if not already 1.Enter The Dragon 2.Blood Sport 3.Fist Of Fury 4.Game Of Death 5.The Octogon 6.Crouching Tiger, Hiden Dragon 7.The Way Of The Dragon 8.The Karate Kid 1984 9.Street fighter 10.Ong Bak 11.American Ninja 12.Here Comes The Boom
Fun fact there has been a long running rumor that there will be third movie involving the bride’s daughter and vernita’s daughter Nikki in the first movie
28:12, Americans especially of these past two generations aren't taught to abase themselves like that. Bill warned Beatrix about sass. But some lessons have to be learned the hard way.
Before the chapel incident, wasn't Beatrix basically already a serial killer, who if discovered by law enforcement would be imprisoned for life or executed?
