Edit: @Cojo Gogo's weapon is a modified Meteor Hammer, another one you might have been thinking about is the Rope Dart. Also I'm really happy you guys got around to seeing this one
@@tigqc No, niche culture inspired the film. The film massively inspired pop culture, being referenced countless times in other media, and spawning memes that are still relevant to this day.
I gave the benefit of the doubt and assumed he meant to say 'in' rather than 'from'. They did acknowledge they didn't know the origin of the song afterwards.
yeah that hurt... but yeaaah it happens to best of us, the "oh wait, it's NOT an original?" moment... I almost died when my friend asked me if ABBA covered all of the songs from Mamma Mia :D
Fun fact: the California mountain kingsnake is the only snake out of the six that isn’t poisonous/venomous. But poison seems to be one of Elle’s favorite choice of weapons.
@@jimmcdonald4087dude yes there is you just added the king on the end but they definitely are still California mountain snakes 😂 it’s the same damn snake
Kill Bill (both volumes) have got to be one of my favorite movies just for sheer fun factor. The only way I’ve ever been able to describe it as the most ‘movie’ movie I’ve ever seen, it’s just made with such joy, passion, and eccentricity.
The girl who plays GoGo was in a Japanese movie called Battle Royale (Some say the inspiration for The Hunger Games) that Quentin loved and wanted her in his movie! That movie is a huge part of the success of battle royale style games!
Fun fact , what people originally think is the last scene ( the bride getting shot) is actually the first scene, and what they think is the first scene ( showing up to vernita greens house in the pussywagon) is actually the last scene of volume 1 movie which occurs after she kills Oren Ishi, she flies back to the US to drive to vernitas and kill her. The pussywagon is used as a bridge to invert the beginning and the end of the movie.😊 So Tarentino subverts expectations off the bat. And there are little things such as when Oren Ishi says ' you may not last 5 minutes', the subsequent fight scene is 4 minutes 50 seconds until shes dead from when the music starts at the fight.
The whistling is by Bernard Herrmann, and it's the theme to "Twisted Nerve" a Boulting Brothers movie from 1968. Alfred Hitchcock liked the movie so much, he hired 2 of the actors for his movie "Frenzy" from 1973. Both movies are a must watch, hope to see a reaction to them someday.
Just to let you guys know, Kobe did say he got the whole alter ego of “black mamba” from this movie. He thought it was cool and he wanted to translate that to basketball to get away from the personal stuff he was dealing with. Which explains the logos are similar as well. Rest in peace Kobe 💜💛
Bleeping out the Bride's name was an homage to Clint Eastwood's character of "the mysterious stranger with no name" from Sergio Leone's "Dollar Trilogy". (A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly)
First off, this movie is from 2003 so yes there were cell phones lol. Second, your faces for some of the scenes, priceless. Third, can we please give credit to the stunt women for Uma Thurman...shes incredible. Great reaction guys, can't wait for the second one! ❤❤
The girl who played "GoGo" Lucy Liu's bodyguard was in a Japanese Cult Classic called "Battle Royale." The movie was about a bunch of students put on an island and forced to kill each other leaving only one standing. Yes, it was pre Hunger Games and the idea for Hunger Games was most likely taken from it. The students all wore uniforms(I don't want to spoil the movie just in case you watch it.) that is why "Go Go" is wearing a uniform in this movie. Can't wait for you guys to watch part 2! Very fun to see you react to this.
This is an homage to the old Kung Fu films. Shaw Brothers, etc. Sonny Chiba. Green Hornet. All that kind of thing. QT is a big fan , it is one of the reasons he is good friends with RZA
The fight scene in the nightclub when you said, “He can fly”… All I have to say is watch “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”. There’s a lot of flying going on.
If I'm not mistaken, the “Woo Hoo” song was used in those commercials after Kill Bill became popular. Like other songs from the soundtrack were used in commercials after its release like the “No, no, no, no, somebody” song (don't know the actual name of the song).
Corey in his Long Hair Don't Care Era :) :) Love it! Also, can't BELIEVE they haven't watched QT movies. They have a wonderful catalog to catch up with!
Not sure if it is true, but I heard a rumor that the change to and from black and white was an artistic way around rules regarding the amount of blood allowed for a rated R film. From what I understand, Tarantino was told it was so bloody in its first cut that it would have to be NC-17, so this was a way around the rating requirements.
O-Ren and The Bride bowing to each other was something Lucy Liu suggested to Tarantino because it was something she learned while training for the film and the reasoning behind it was because while the two were enemies they still needed to respect each other because they’re both warriors.
You guys are so dang enjoyable to watch. I am loving seeing these movies through your eyes, uncluttered by the time frame the movie was filmed in. Truly excellent react.
Fun Facts: The yellow jumpsuit was inspired by Bruce Lee's iconic outfit in the movie *Game of Death*. Additionally, Chiaki Kuriyama, who played the chain-and-ball-wielding assassin Gogo Yubari, her character, Girl #13 Takako Chigusa, in *Battle Royale*, also wore a similar suit. *Battle Royale*, which depicts the Japanese government forcing teenagers to fight to the death until only one remains, predates the *Hunger Games* series.
I love Quentin's movies but he was heavily inspired by martial arts films especially from the 70's. Check out "Kill Bill Vol 1: Where Does Homage end and Originality Begin" by Cinefix they break a lot down and have good points the director mentions in interviews.
Loves Kill Bill volume 1 and 2. You can see Quentin Tarantino’s love pure into the films as he added many visual references to classic kung fu and Shogun cinemas along with the soundtracks.
this movie was huge when it came out...Tarantino had a ho-hum performance after pulp fiction with jackie brown, so people were really curious...it didnt get a lot of awards but it was still huge on pop culture immediately, Kobe did take black mamba from the movie, several of the songs were reworked into hits/commercials...RZA from wu tang wrote the original score...plus, its difficult to explain but it was just so cool....jaded cinephiles/audiophiles alike talking bout how a mainstream blockbuster was so cool, something rare nowadays...watching it at a packed movie theatre was something
35:58 this song was used in a "Vonage" commercials back in 00s and Blake is correct, it got annoying because the commercial would be on all the time but this band was used in that commercial because of this movie, haha. And yep, Kobe got his name and icon from this movie. Glad you all are finally getting to this movie, can't wait for part 2 😎 Also, QT and Uma came up with the concept of this movie on the set of another of his movies, "Pulp Fiction."
The yellow truck was Tarantino's personal vehicle. Bill, played by David Carradine, has a brother who is also an actor. Keith Carradine has made appearances in both TBBT and Criminal Minds.
I like people watching movies that have had a huge cultural impact....Titanic, Jurassic Park, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Kill Bill...great reaction. PS: Watch the miniseries Chernobyl (2019)....scary, dark, enlightening...
People asking "is that Uma Thurman? Is she the main character? Is this movie from the 90ths?" Is so strange for me because everyone in my generation knew this movies. Its from the early 2000ths
I remember being 18 in the common room at the college dorms watching this in 2003-2004. It was amazing...we all watched that VHS in silence. I can't believe it's been 20 yrs. At that moment Tarantino was more of a..."you gotta search to find his stuff" kinda and this just made him explode. He gives a nod to Pulp Fiction, another cult classic, with the square gesture in the fight with Vernita. The yellow suit is indeed a nod to Bruce Lee, he is the Easter egg king😅...I mean this dude had us whistling that song and listening to Nancy Sinatra... INCREDIBLE
I love the green hornet music every time they signal that her rage is about to come out. I’m almost certain it’s from it. Doesn’t the nurse assassin remind you of the blink182 nurse from their album cover 😂 And the music right before she sliced his Achilles sounds like music from the movie Halloween. Dude really knows how to elevate your anxiety while watching in a way that you want more of it.
You have NO idea what it was to watch this in theaters when it came out..... No one had ever seen anything close to this masterpiece..... I mean Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was a whole other level but nothing this gory. This movie is timeless and Im glad you guys liked it.
Do you guys agree that the scene at 20:48 where she’s about two slices Achilles tendon looks like a scene from the end of a Saw movie? Slow pacing and the music?
When the crazy 88 scene switches to black and white. It is said that a lot of people in intense killing durning war or what have you, their mind switches to black and white to lessen emotional reason. Also when I first saw this in theaters, friends and went right back in to see it a second time.
I’d recommend Lucky Number Slevin with Lucy Liu, it’s a pretty solid suspense thriller with a great cast. As for Uma, I’d recommend obviously Pulp Fiction, Batman & Robin, My Super Ex Girlfriend, Be Cool and Dangerous Liasons and definitely react to Jackie Brown, Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained. Also True Romance and Sin City
I loved your reactions. One of my fave movies! The fight with the Crazy 88 was in black and white was out of necessity. In color, it would earn the movie an NC-17 rating in the US. However, some international versions have the fight scene in full color. The Bride's outfit at House of Blue Leaves was indeed inspired by Bruce Lee. The late Kobe Bryant did indeed snag his nickname and symbol from this movie. Since this is your first Tarantino flick, note that in his films, he oftentimes likes to tell events out of order. He also has a foot fetish. I recommend Pulp Fiction and also Reservoir Dogs. His newer flicks, Inglorious Basterds, The Hateful 8 and Django Unchained are also damn good.
The scene where the Bride spits in the Ranger's face, was inspired by the true story of Roy Benavidez, a Vietnam-era Green Beret. After a brutal battle, during which he was severely wounded many times, Benavidez was thought to be dead. As he was being zipped into a body bag, he spat blood at the doctor. At the hospital, he was told he'd never walk again. He not only walked again, he returned to full duty on active service, and lived to the age of 63.
You were correct about Nikki. They were supposed to be a Kill Bill 3 where Nikki goes after Uma to get revenge. Apparently in one of the drafts, Sophie was supposed to get bills money and she was supposed to help her train or something. We’ve been crossing our fingers hoping it would happen, but I think he said he’s only making one more film.
This movie is a TOP TIER! This movie defines a real actiom movie in the year 2000's and became one of the iconic movies especially in the Philippines and other countries.
This tune comes from the seventy’s. Everyone you mentioned sampled this. They were babies when this movie came out. The Director is a fan of the 70s and also Martial arts Movies from the 70s and 80s.
The anime flashback was done by legendary studio Production I.G, that also animated Ghost in the Shell, Psycho Pass and Jin-Roh. This same studio also has Batman anthology movie, called Batman: Gotham Knight and was among the studios that did Van Helsing: The London Assignment.
If you choose to view any flick from the legendary Shaw Brothers I would recommend "Master Killer, The 36th Chamber of Shaolin" starring Gordon Liu who is credited in both Kill Bill volumes & you will understand why WuTang is forever 😏
It was crazy to me that you guys were saying this movie referenced other stuff when it was the reference! 😂😂😂 I was like this is wild! But I am glad someone cleared it up in the comments. Kill Bill is one of my top 50 movies hands down.
The animator was the same one who did the Linkin Park music video for Breaking the Habit! Kazuto Nakazawa! Also, the whistle song was in American Horror Story.
