I'm personally going to build Compendium Alpha Legion and mix the bodies and heads with 30k Alpha Legion bits.

Great stuff! I largely agree with your impressions, and I'm also about that crane life.

I did a Red Corsair killteam for KT2018. Each model is from a different source chapter or legion. Fun project painting individual models. The Emperor's Children Noise Marine proxies as a plasma gunner. I guess my aotucannon heavy gunner will now be proxying for a heavy bolter. My recommendation is go for the kit bash opportunities.

Octarius was $220 CAD, Chalnath was $170 CAD, and Nachmund is listing at $193 CAD. I was mostly worried it was going to creep up back over the $200 territory - the terrain set on it's own is about $160 CAD - and the Kreig and Kommando sets are $60 a pop, so I'm still seeing a great value in these box sets, otherwise, and I am eagerly awaiting my FLGS to get my pre-order

Congrats on 3k subs. I think that's a fair appraisal of the Nachmund box contents. I did preorder it though as I don't have either of those factions or that terrain.so on balance it was worth it for me. I totally get why others would give it a miss. Still not sure which team I'm going too end up playing more as it will possibly depend on how many games I can get in general. I do hope the Chaos team is somewhat competitive. Will give me hope for other elite teams as I'd like my homebrew Chapter to be at least competitive if I ever go to another tournament.

I'm going to buy it (and probably some harlies) because I like the models and I have only painted one Eldar in my life (the Ranger lady from Blackstone Fortress) and I'm excited to see how much better I am at painting since then. I also like having a bunch of different factions painted up for when my non 40k friends come around because it inspires them to try a game. I'm taking a break from power armour but I think I'll do my CSM in wordbearers and give them all face tattoos. Terrain is cool but I think I would add some scatter and maybe a MDF warehouse or something.

I am getting Nachmund for the Chaos side, simply because my wife wants the Corsair models, so I have to get the chaos models regardless.... Its $230 CAD I am hopefully selling some older models I am not using to help fund it and also trading in some MTG stuff I have to my FLGS to take some more off the price.

Ahh I had the same idea for the Anointed ! I'm actually painting the claw hand greater possessed to be the Deamon mode anointed in my KT. That model looks like it was intended to be the transformations for the Nachmund anointed

We can agree: the CSM Anointed is exciting, and $195 is a feel-bad price.

I'm a sucker for pirates, so I'm very excited about this box. Space elf pirates vs chaos marine pirates is super cool. Similar to what you said, I think I will be waiting until these models are out in their own boxes and are hopefully a bit cheaper. Still cool, and I'm excited for more competitive bespoke teams. Can't wait for nids to get one too :D

My ONLY issue with the new CSM is that if youre making a roster, choosing one mark locks you out of another. I get locking you out when youre playing the team, but the roster should really be allowed to forgo adding marks. It just means that CSM cant really be competitively viable. When youre just playing with friends, you can just pick marks that do best against whatever theyre playing, and I think thats one of the ways they could beat a team like VG

(Not a suggestion) when you referred to the new CSM operatives as 'goofballs' I pictured marines crossed with Ed ''Big Daddy'' Roth's Custom Monsters. That would make a truly unique warband. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and reflections as always and look forward to seeing your new creations!

What are your thoughts on the chain cannon vs heavy boltgun vs missile launcher? (specifically ruleswise because aesthetically its a definite auto take)

I'm really looking forward to Legionaries in that box. My friend plays Vet Guard so I'm curious to see how it goes in that matchup. As for the Corsair Voidscarred, I'm hoping I can find a paint scheme that gets me interested in them. Overall I'm just excited for more psychic abilities in the game. I ordered some bits to make a demon mode CSM too, want to add some spice to that model as it has great potential. Got that new White Dwarf, Void Dancer Harlequins. Again paint scheme is key. The rules seem awesome, lots of tricks. Basically I just want to find ways to mess with those Vet Guards :)

Hey Ben. I would like to see a break down video specifically on how Vet Guard have moved up. In the games I've played or observed - Komandos out perform Vet Guard. Admittedly it could be player error.

From whole Nachmund box all I wanted were Chaos rulles. Terrain is meh, don't care for Eldars, and Chaos Legionaries I've kitbashed as soon as they were shown on WarCom. Definitely agree on Anointed, he is THE specialist when it comes to melee. Balefire also seems like auto-take. Still not sure if Chosen (with Mark of Khorne) or Aspiring (with Mark of Nurgle) for a leader, have both models from Compendium teams. That leaves 3 slots.. Would love to run Butcher and Shrivetalon (btw. is it just me, or having 2 knives CSM is weak? I've given mine claws instead, so he can have proper flensing done), as they look cool. But there is something that doesn't click with Marks for me. I mean, first and natural instinct is to give all Melee specialists Mark of Khorne, sure. But then looking again at them - Shrivetalon role is to defend objective. Anointed already gets Lethal5+ and Ceaseless. The same goes for Butcher - Ceaseless/Relentless already on board.. so perhaps give them all Mark of Nurgle? They will shred nearly as well, but will survive so much longer? Or is it just my bias for Nurgle talking? :) As many people did observe, gunner slot isn't auto-take for plasma. Melta might be good since we are gravitating towards close combat anyway. And against no-invu teams AP- may be not as good as high volume of plain attacks, so there should also be place for Heavy Gunner. Then again, Marks.. Undivided for re-rolls, or Nurgle for survivability? Wide roster may be best solution - since we have 6 models to deploy, but 20 spots on the list, we can have multiple versions and field whatever, as long as limitations and Marks are met..

I think my comment did not make it through youtube, most likely through the use of the phonetic alphabet letters and links. Anyhow, here it is again without it: I don't know if Nachmund is a German word in the 40k Universe, but it certainly could be. We pronounce it Nach-Mund. If you would like to know how to pronounce it, just go to a translation website German and let "Nach" and "Mund" be pronounced by those lovely voice actors.

I've been on a path of buying every KT box but i think that is starting to wane. I have a box of CSM that i havent built and the box is just a upgrade sprue. The corsairs are cool but i dont need them. And i already have enough terrain at my house that i never use

I agree 100% the minis are really cool, but a lot of £$ for what it is. I feel a bash coming on, at least for the chaos chaps :)

I think my eldar team will be pretty out of the box with a few headswaps. Maybe make the "not warpspider" a little cooler. The chaos team... don't know. It won't be with the Black Legion bodies, i know that. Maybe true Sons of Horus, or something Khorne... or something loyalist? I'll of course need to adjust my Red Corsairs to fit the new rules too, because Red Corsairs are the best ;)

I didn't know the final price was 190. I assumed it would be 170. Thats sours me even more now

I've decided to stick with my Alpha Legion themed compendium team for now. Legionaires too melee focused for me.

I was *shocked* when my friendly local gaming store told me this was a $195 box. I'm very hyped for whats in it, obviously, and I think the Marks Of Chaos rules bode well for Chapter Tactics for marines down the road (i suspect the marine update will be a Deathwatch box set that treats their Chapters in a very similar way which... sick as hell). The Corsairs look cool, the marine upgrade sprue is sweet, etc. But woof. Terrain thats just "meh" and no real discount over the list price? My Indomitus box was $200 too... And GW needs to figure out elite teams. 6 bodies with special rules that essentially just make them more killy was a disappointment. Marines are already very killy (GW seems proud of that butcher model but a DW fighter with a heavy thunderhammer does the same dmg and doesnt need special rules combos to do it) But even with 3 APL, they do less actions than most other teams. By quite a lot! Run them into vet guard, for instance, and you're starting the game with 10 less actions per turn and handing your opponent an 8 model(!) chain activation at the end of the first turning point. I feel like there needs to be something more than 3APL and overwatch to counter that. I'm no game designer, so I have no idea what the answer is but I like Malifauxs pass token system. Or a tactical ploy/equipment that allows me to reactivate a model that passed their turn, or overwatch allows for a dash+shoot (so Im not hanging those models out to dry). 6 models feels way better than 5 did, but its not enough.

You know why elite SM are sucking? All those flavorless melee options. Like when raptors would be enought. Raptors could include gunners. Plus the mobility would be great. Instead they picked to Deathguard options of big axe and knives c'mon and made than vanilla flavor.
