im having a real issue in kill team, i roll the dice and instead of getting 6s all the time i keep getting 1s and 2s. really feel like GW should have addressed this in the new edition
I know the new elites need to be balanced ... But at last Warp Coven is strong! I've been here since the beginning, suffering, but now my faith has been repaid!
@@CanYouRollaCrit heal. Counter activation heal. Ploy to learn a spell, heal. You can do 6d3 heal PER TURN in conceal, on 2+ space marine that tank. I'm a Warpcoven main but we're so strong
My fiance has been a Warpcoven main since they released. I am glad she is getting a huge boost. I love getting to play against the odds. And she loves winning, haha.
Yeahh I feel bad for Chaos Cult. I have an ongoing game (Chaos Cult vs Hand of the Archon, and "ongoing" due to college time constraints so we're doing 1 turning point a day), and in TP 2, the moment I got the first torment, it was nearly one-shot in melee by the Crimson Duellist, and the torment got finished off shortly afterwards. A bit disappointing for what is now a once per turning point flesh tank.
Great analysis as always. I am really disappointed that GW have nerfed most teams (which would be fined if that was followed through with all teams) but then massively buffed elites who are so good they basically now have no downsides and so many re rolls they just negate the dice rolling part of the game. Whereas all non elites are still very much at the whims of the dice gods, so they will always be on the losing side from a stats point of view. Shooting counteract with no negatives is crazy meaning they can easily kill three enemies each per turn.
I love em so far, they are like a hybrid between old scions and kasrkin and I dig that s lot. Have been non stop winning with em against hierotek/scout dwarf dudes
I recently played Farstalker Kinband vs Tempestus Aquilons and it probably was one of the most fun matches ive ever played. I managed to win with my Kroot, but me and my opponent both only had 2 models left.
Alas, Pathfinders. My first ever kit. Brought those scruffy boys along to your Goonhammer event, my first ever table top tournament. Largely lost. Love them dearly. RIP.
They were my first team to play against. I figured I could just rush them so they couldn’t shoot (or go in stealth)… to this day I still think my opponent was throwing the game… they couldn’t be _that_ bad.
@@CanYouRollaCritIf you are one day out of content ideas, please make a BoK deep dive with operative selection for every matchup and explanation how to try to make it work for fellow eldar conoisseurs.
Blades of Khaine really need some love if they expect people to collect them. Just finishing painting them up now, as I expected them to get the buffs you mentioned in 3rd edition... Honestly, sort it out GW!
John, could you do a video or series of shorts explaining the 9 crits op with an example of how to score the VP? I find them quite confusing and not particularly well written. This would be a useful resource.
Can't decide how I want to run my Alpha Legion-themed kill team. Was thinking either I run marines & agents as either Blooded or (more likely) Brood Brothers or Angels of Death so I can bring Exodus & some Tacticals but as they're high tier teams it feels a bit beardy.
@@davidwheward8081 I don't disagree! I could see the case for Phobos as Recons/Seekers/Headhunters, Nemesis Claw as Command/Veterans & oddly Scouts as Effrit (shotguns, sniper rifles & power daggers). Angels of Death gives me the chance to bring Alpharius as the Captain, Exodus as the Eliminator & a Terminator as the Gravis guy (bunch of different size & shape dudes is fun to build & paint, you get that TF2 mix of silhouettes), OTOH Brood Brothers lets me bring kitbashed Solar Aux with an Apothecary as the Primus (Power sword & pistol, Narthecium as injector) Librarian as Magus (staff & power dagger) & dual lightning claw terminator as Patriarch vs Blooded which lets me do the same with an Overseer as the Commissar & Terminator with a hammer & chainfist as the Ogryn. As usual I can't get out of my own way to make a decision, as befitting the XXth.
Here is my hot take for marine teams. Counteract should be on engage. Except for Phobos. Makes sense Phobos can do sneaky stuff on conceal. All other Astartes can only counteract on engage. It makes the eliminator a little less insane, and makes all the teams a little more risk reward. Otherwise maybe we are just looking at elite teams becoming 5 operatives each? Reducing piercing down to a minimum of 1 seems the more fair way to balance it in my opinion. Doesn’t utterly make vespid faction rule worthless, plus a bunch of other teams ways to deal with elites.
after 1 game of vespids the commune points are an issue. had half a dozen missed shooting opportunities, because i had no points to shoot past 8". not to mention it requires points to open doors on into the dark
*Novitiates:* The 4 fight action Penitent is nothing to freak out about. The series of events that have to take place has practically no chance of occurring. You need perfect board setup involving 2 of your own models and two separate group of 1-2 of your opponent's models within charge range of each other... you would have to avoid taking 7 wounds in a single fight action 3 times in a row ASSUMING that you actually heal up to full between each action... and you would have needed to START the turn in control range of the enemy. It just isn't going to happen. Even getting 3 fight actions instead of 4 in a single activation is so unlikely as to not be worth considering. Not to mention you are FAR better off pairing your Exactor with the Preceptor or Duellist (giving another model a second fight action is WAY BETTER than giving a model with 2 fight actions ALREADY the 0.001% chance of using a third or a fourth).
Unless I've missed something, Blooded only have 2 ways to get Relentless - from the Corpseman, in which case it only gives melee weapons relentless, and from Glory Kill which would only give relentless against 1 specific model for the turning point, and only if the operative shooting also has a Blooded token. That doesn't seem all that crazy?
Wyrmblade get ceaseless and rending on almost every shot. That's what makes them great, the consistency. Also i think the dwarf teams should be switched, but fun video either way.
The Vespids playing with limited focus on the Crit Op seems thematic, if not the most functional from a gameplay perspective. I'm still debating focusing on Angels of Death or Phobos (Raven Guard either way). I'm glad to hear that Phobos is better balanced to play against, so I'll probably focus more on them.
@@CanYouRollaCrit Well ... mixed bag xD I chose Kommandos cause I love kitbashing and just going for the wackiest things you can do (Breacher and Grot are perfect for just 'joker' around), they ranked B Secondly I chose Krieg cause they're my favorite Imperial Guard, and Imperial Guard and Orks are the two armies I want to build in general, they ranked C Thirdly I chose Aquilons for the looks and faction rules, as those sounded quite wacky too (see orks), they ranked B Guess picking just by 'go do the dumb shit'-points of kill teams, one might end up with a bunch of slightly mediocre picks :D
Why the Angels of Death Sniper gets multiple Silent shots whilst other Snipers (Jeagirs and Kommandos for example) now get one Silent shot per battle still confuses me.
As a pathfinder main (I have one fully built and almost fully painted and one not built yet) I'm offended, I agree they needed a nerf but damn the walking drones and lack of markerlight hurts
Please stop putting all my team choices in S tier. People are starting to accuse me of meta chasing, which I am certain is the reason I am still not good at the game.
For poach - it says the objective needs to be contested… wouldn’t that mean it’s only viable when you have an equal level of APL, or does contested now mean just having any model in control range?
@@CanYouRollaCrit cool - I’d read it the same as previous edition when an objective used to be ‘contested’ so matching APL. Makes that ploy LOADS better
There are so many unclear aspects about the inquisitors. We need an FAQ before I can pass judgement. Even if all the FAQs are ruled in favour of making them worse they probably will still need a nerf though. I'd rather see the ancillaries nerfed than have the core team nerfed. It would be cool if taking a full inquisitor team was a viable option.
scouts should be at A tier at the very least! my wyrmblade at 8+ games so far this edition can max on crit op and tac op against both horde and elites, winning all my games so far except against scouts which i went 0-2 against. their trip mines with seek + well positioned heavy gunners for relentless are hella dirty and in the hands of an adept player they can surely win any local tourney. i currently fear no other team but them 😅
@@CanYouRollaCrit with those two teams being the entry point for a lot of people who start with that upcoming box does it make balancing or changing those teams more difficult? Do you think they need to keep those teams relatively the same for those newer players? Or because it is more Kill Team Lite, it won’t impact the game at all
Kroot in B? I’ll take what I can get You mentioned it as a good thing but the fact that inquisition invalidates so many teams is why I hate them. No I don’t want to play inquisition I want to play kasrkin, exaction, or breachers. The answer being just use the models you like in the better team sucks to me.
@@CanYouRollaCrit my bad I misunderstood you there. I will say while the elite meta is frustrating for anyone not playing elites finally seeing warpcoven up top is pretty funny. The sorcerer’s scheming paid off years later.
As someone who's played Legionaries and Angels of Death more than any other teams I have to agree about them both being overpowered. They are way WAY too good. Good enough that I don't think I'd enjoy playing against C or D tier teams. Simplifying the marks and reducing the complexity of the strats and faction abilities and giving me a reason to use a mark other than Nurgle are all good. They just over-corrected. A lot.
Just a bit of feed back from someone who is new to the hobby, while you're talking about the team, it would be nice if you showed what models you are actually going to be playing with. Instead I've had to pause and look up what the guys actually look like and that chipped away at my enjoyment of the video
Don't agree about Pathfinders - I comlpetely butchered a Vet Guard team (tabled them) with a team of 8 Shas'la, Recon, and Marksman. I think Saturate is too powerful at the first markerlight level - its way better than Balanced, so I think these should be swapped so Saturate is 2nd level markerlight.
@@CanYouRollaCrit I don't think so. Balanced is not as good as Saturate - Saturate guarantees 1 extra hit going through, but Balanced only gives a chance at an extra hit. I think single rerolls tend to be valued too highly (especially on teams with 4+ hit or worse).
I was actually looking forward to playing chaos cults, but mutating only once per turn seems like such a unfun bonerkiller, I am left completly flaccid and dissapointed.
@@CanYouRollaCrit yea dude. I’m all for losing if it’s fun. But it got to the point where I would just pick up my models without rolling saves if I felt it was more than likely they were dead. 1st game I killed ONE space marine. Second game I killed….TWO
Hey, I'm pretty sure you have misread or misunderstood how the Inquisitorial agents rules interact with taking Requisitioned Exaction squad units. There are 3 steps to read and explain this. step 1."the operatives have their faction keyword replaced in all instances on their datacards with Inquisitorial agents(unless they already have it" Great! so the faction rule works like you explained in the video now! but there are more lines to read. Step 2. "you cannot use a Requisitioned operatives former faction rules" aha, here we see that all the operatives technically lose it in this step. Especially combined with core rules where in case of conflict since step 1 said you could use it and step 2 made it so you cannot, two takes precedence by way of point 4. Then comes step 3 "unless specified on their Inquisitorial Requistion card(it only applies to those requisitioned units) and here we have it!, only the requisitioned exacition squad units gets to use the changed faction rules from step 1, that was disallowed in step 2 but now is allowed for the requisitoned units in step 3 :) hope it helps
Yeah and Reposition work with Kasrkin operatives which changes to Inquisitorial Agents keyword. Otherwise the ploy does nothing in Inq so I'm afraid you have it misunderstood (:
@@CanYouRollaCritThe op has a point, the kasrkin ploy is different because it’s in his data card. However, exaction rule doesn’t let inquisition operatives shoot into melee. It’s pretty clear actually, just read the faction rule like op did, step by step. For example, void armor doesn’t apply to all operatives just because you take navis. In simplification, if it’s on the data card, it changes, but if it’s a faction rule, only operatives from that faction carry it over when specified on the requisition card.
@@CanYouRollaCrit it does work for exaction because they are the requisitioned unit, so they can shoot into melee whether it’s an inquisition operative or an exaction operative. Inquisition operatives are not allowed to shoot into melee due to the restriction in the faction rule. It’s in parentheses: “(it only applies to those requisitioned operatives).”
@@CanYouRollaCrit What dramatic uphill battle are they fighting that makes them bad into elites? They are on par with elites (give or take) and decimate most teams 12 wounds and under
They are deffo not on par with elites all being at 14w sans Phobos 😂 They get blown up by hordes like Blooded and Inq etc, Corsairs mess them up too. They don't do well in the meta at all.
All 3 Imperial Guard Kill Teams are bottom tier and mid at best? … … Yeah, that sounds about right. We’ve been mid at best in every version of 40k since we lost the max Plasma Spam of Killteam 2018. Even in 10th we’ve been mid at best.
@@CanYouRollaCrit Were they? I only ever heard Vet Guard being D tier in 2nd Ed/2021. I played a ton of 1st Ed/2018, but skipped out on last edition because I didn’t like how different it was, and because the Guard Codex for 9th came out right after that. I ended up only playing a few games of 2nd/21, and only with Kasrkin and to mixed results. Super glad they fixed the wording for 3rd/2024. Its actually fun without the head scratching and translating needed to play 2nd/21
@@jeffreymonsell659 yeah that tracks. I’m pretty sure the Chaos Cult detachment for Chaos Space Marines in 10th Edition 40k has had an average win rate of 15 points higher than the Guard Codex since the Summer Dataslate.
I only got the Nemesis Claw because I thought they’d just be cool to paint up. Wasn’t aware they were one of the “Elites” - and even better - ‘elitier’ than the Elites 😂
