Vex ‘airlifting’ Grog to deliver the death blow was straight out of the campaign! The cast reaction was spectacular; jumping out of their seats, pounding the table so hard the dice were bouncing off, screaming their lungs out! To quote Liam at that moment: “POETIC JUSTICE!!!!!”
@@ReactionBros8994 The fight in the campaign was much closer than it was in the show, several member of Vox Machina went down and they were very, very close to being completely overwhelmed and wiped out before Grog absolutely annihilated Kevdak. When he FINALLY got the killing blow the entire table was absolutely ballistic, probably the greatest kill in Critical Role history.
The cast was so worried about that Kevdak fight that they asked their good friend Wil Wheaton to go and touch all of Matt's things (look up the video titled "Wil Wheaton Dice Curse" if you don't know what I'm talking about). That attack Grog did at the end ended up being a nat 20.
I second this! Wil Wheaton, aka Wesley Crusher from Star Trek TNG, has the worst dice curse ever recorded. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-um7uTlb_i28.html
@@ReactionBros8994 Absolutely, Laura Bailey, the woman who plays Vex, has a huge bag dedicated to her dice. She also puts away any dice that don’t work for her.
Whitestone's cloaking spell was equal parts Allura and Gilmore in the stream; one of them was constantly expending magical energy. It was truly exhausting. The fight with the Herd was such a crazy thing. I adored it for how clearly it shows the shifting tides of battle. Here's the crazy part: Grog's final attack was the only thing that ended it. Had anyone else landed the killing blow, the Herd would've fought to the last person, killed Vox Machina, and likely caused quite a lot of civilian casualties. A quick note about the brambleshot from Vex. That's actually an effect from the bow, not a spell. In the campaign, it grew a tree through a few enemies. That Kaylie reveal reaction was priceless. 😂🤣
We thought the brambleshot was one of the arrows she got from Gilmore! That bow rocks. I was laughing my ass off while editing at the looks of horror as we slowly realized what was happening 😅.
So yeah, if a channel like WatchMojo were to do a list of “Top Ten Moments Where Vox Machina Went Beast Mode”, this episode would easily be #1. Yes, his name is Shaun but to practically everyone else, he’s just “Gilmore”. It’s usually only Vax that calls him “Shaun”, but in the campaign, the rest of Vox Machina also share in that habit from time to time. Yeah, you don’t hurt Pike. Grog will make you pay. And here comes the cavalry, ready to FUCK SHIT UP! And with a heavy metal beat too! The demonstration of Fenthras’ Bramble Shot, the return of Bad News, and that clutch use of the locket to give Grog the “How Do You Want To Do This” against Kevdak, earning him the Titanstone Knuckles… and the alliance of Zanror and the Herd against the Hope Devourer. The battle was also quite intense in the campaign, to the point that it took the entire episode, no break at all. And poor Kiki, just had bad timing trying to shoot her shot because the Matron won’t leave Vax alone. Still, it’s good to see that she’s finally allowing herself to fall in love. And yes, “At Dawn, We Plan” was an actual thing in the campaign too, as was the utter shock at the Kaylie reveal. Even Sam Riegel didn’t see that coming when that happened at the table.
Something I love about the Grog vs Kevdek fight is that… even when he doesn’t have his strength back yet, Grog isn’t just throwing himself on. He’s fighting strategically. He’s kinda moving like Vax at some point, using his agility and smaller size to get hits in on Kevdek. He truly is the better fighter. If Kevdek wasn’t wearing a Literal Fucking Vestige, I think Grog had an actual shot.
I don't disagree with your point, but Kevdak was fighting strategically too. When you have a size and strength advantage, the best strategy is moving slowly, gauging the strength of your opponent's blows, and waiting for an opening to retaliate. We see Kevdak do it at the beginning and again when Grog finds his strength. Even without the vestige, Kevdak wouldn't have been a pushover.
The old man grog met earlier was named Earth Breaker Groon, and yes he was a high level monk. Believe he was actually a homebrew subclass Matt made where, not kidding, you punch an enemy and learn something about them(AC, HP, weakness, resistance, etc ). Glad you two are enjoying the show, sad you didn't react to season 1.
Yeah, we watched the first season well before we started the channel. We liked it so much that we knew we had to include the 2nd season to the channel.
@@ReactionBros8994 I was a backer for when they did fundraising for the first season on Kickstarter(it was originally supposed to be a mini series for the fans, then in two hours they broke the record for most money raised for a series on Kickstarter). Glad to see so many people enjoying the show.
Knowing who Kaylee was from the start, every word Scanlan spoke in that room had me screaming "No! Noo!! Noooooooo!!!" So I feel like you guys probably know gnomes live quite a bit longer than humans. At this point in the campaign Scanlan is 69 years old. This was a masterful twist in the campaign and, as skin-crawling as it is, I'm so glad they kept it in its full glory for the show.
And whats even better is what this whole plotline is going to build up to. They even teased it a bit in the finale: SPOILERS SLIGHTLY "WHAT'S her name?!"
At the time that Grog got the Titanstone Knuckles, they were in their Awakened state, so these are the benefits Grog got: The wielder gains the Siege effect of being able to deal double damage against objects and structures. The wielder's Strength score becomes 24. The wielder can use an action to grow or shrink in size as per the Enlarge/Reduce' spell for 10 minutes. They cannot use this ability again until they finish a long rest.
That pokeball drop was straight out of the campaign. Grog had attacked recklessly and the whole herd hit him at advantage. Vex plucked him up with the necklace and dropped him. Grog got a nat20 to kill his uncle and then the falling damage knocked him out.
Haha one of the best episodes of Vox Machina so far. Knew you guys would get pumped seeing the fight and Vox Machina going ham. Made me go lift a second time as I was to energized from the fight. XD Also Whitehall with the sixth sense for metal music! LMAO
