I remember the 1st. time I was invited to my friend Sophia's house for Sunday dinner, I was 9. One of her brothers was gonna dip a piece of bread into the pot but their Mom said no, him being the wanna be tough guy/ show off did any ways while he mumbled "Stunod" LOL, I didn't even see that spoon swing but it knocked/ flung him to the floor and gave him an instant welt! once all 6 of her boys was of age, they all went & had that spoon tattooed where it always marked them, It still makes me laugh!
Hi guys, just wanted to say I love love love your channel! I am married to a retired Italian chef/restaurant owner and he loves your channel as well. I’m really sorry to hear about your mother. She was a lot like my Joe’s mother 4 foot nothing but a spitfire. God rest their sweet souls Joe’s restaurant was in Boone North Carolina and we now live on the Gulf of Mexico in Panama City Beach Florida. As I said, he’s retired from being a chef in a restaurant owner now but we both enjoy your show very very much. Please keep the videos coming it’s fun too watch and listen to Joe go oh I used to do it that way or I never thought about doing it that wayor something like that it’s just fine. We have so much fun watching you guys. Thanks again.
Hi Cindy! So glad you and Joe enjoy our channel. We have a blast doing it. It’s a great way to be creative in the kitchen without the hassle of the restaurant business, which I’m sure you are familiar with. Thanks for watching!
Great video ... brings back memories of my father saying "stir from the bottom so you dont break up the meatballs!!!" Thanks for sharing and God Bless!!!
I am new to your channel. It is a pleasure to have found you! The initial thought which comes to mind is this: My hat goes off to your parents. You guys seem like the greatest brothers! Thank you both for sharing your family recipes.
Great videos. My wife always says, are you watching those two brothers again? I know you say your recipes are Italian American, but I was born in Italy, moved to the US in 1971, and my mother cooked most of these recipes, so it's more authentic than people think. Raw meatballs in the sauce, people think I'm crazy, but that's how I learned. The pasta companies need to have serving sizes on the box for Italians and non-Italians.
Looks great and similar to how we do meatballs in sauce. I know I'm repeating myself, but my Ukrainian mother learned Italian from our neighbor mrs. Mikalino, also an immigrant I believe from Sicily, and that's how they did it. God that looks wonderful, too late in the day to start making meatballs....but they'd be ready by 1am..always tomorrow.
Well guys, it’s Saturday night! Made this menu tonight and the family would do anything for me! Guys, this was so delightfully easy and the family response was so good, I can’t tell you how happy it made me! Thanks, I have quite a bit of pasta left and maybe five meatballs. I doubled the meatballs and froze some, I’ll make a version of the spaghetti pie for dinner one night this week. Thanks, everyone was SOOO happy! Be well,
Wow....I've never heard of putting raw meatballs in the sauce and letting them cook while in the sauce/gravy.....of course, I'm not Italian, lol.......mom taught me to pan fry the meatballs and then add them to the sauce....I think I'll have to try this technique.....the last time I made homemade meatballs, I made 80 meatballs and enough sauce to freeze together. Still busting each other's chops....I love you guys showing your love for each other. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH
This is the first time I’ve come to your channel. I subscribed. I’ll have to try cooking my meatballs right in the sauce! Makes sense that the meat would absorb the flavor from the sauce. Thanks guys!
Hello guys! I can’t express how huge of a fan of your channel and of you guys in general I am.. I love watching your videos. Grew up on Italian food. I absolutely love it. My grandmother was Italian. I was starting to get my mom to watch your videos as well until she recently passed away. Watching your videos I see that you guys had the same unfortunate tragedy, and it really sucks. The pain never really goes away so I can definitely relate. But just wanted to say I love you guys. You seem like a whole lot of fun. Keep making these awesome videos. I’m learning a lot from them. And if I’m ever in Texas I’ll have to come check you guys out. Thanks for everything you do you guys are amazing!
We are so glad you enjoy our channel. We honestly enjoy making the videos. Sorry to hear about your loss. Yes, it does suck. Take care and enjoy your weekend!
You guys cook EXACTLY like me, right down to the ingredients. We got the big cans of Cento San Marzanos up here, if I don't make my pasta I always spring for the De Cecco ..... I probably would have ground up a teaspoon of red pepper flakes for the meatballs but I haven't tried cooking the meatballs in the sauce ... I'll try it. Your lasagna is what I grew up with and still make. Subscribed and I'm on to the next video.
Our family lived on spaghetti and meatballs in the 60s it was a great budget food and taught me my stealthy moves to protect my meatballs from my older brothers lol
I am making this sauce now. And I use the meatballs recipe from the episode you had when you made Sunday gravy. Thank again Chef Papa P and Chef Dom. Oh Yeah!😂
So glad I found your channel - you guys are so much fun to watch and learn from - plus you have such a warm rapport with one another.... My last name is Sanguinetti. Do you have any Sang's in your neighborhood ? We have many similarities in our cooking style as well as loads of laughter around the dinner table like you !!!! 🙂 GREAT video and CHEERS !!! marcia
Looks good, guys! I've been cooking my uncooked meatballs right into my simmering sauce for a while now and never regretted it... sooo good... love your videos! Have a great week and keep bringing your great videos. Gonna try your Sicilian style pizza soon. I'm partial to Brooklyn pizza, but I will give this a try.
My nana always added a bit of sugar to the sauce to offset some bitterness of the tomatoes. Maybe the San Marzanos don't need it but the ones we get seem to.
It's so nice to see you guys cook....you cook food the RIGHT way.... I just wanted in jump in the the bowl with the spaghetti and meatballs..love all your food...just the best channel on youtube.....another amazing meal....😊
As a kid in west Texas my aunt from Buffalo would come down during the summer and make this dish. She would also throw country style pork ribs in the sauce to impart extra flavor. I like me some sliced mushrooms also. Looks great, going to try it out! Like the chemistry and content!
Delicious....nice to see different ways to cook the meatballs....I still prefer frying them up first in olive oil to get that crust....thanks and Happy New Year!!!
The perfect Italian-American dish! I've never put my meatballs straight into the sauce, I always brown them first. I'll have to try next time! Otherwise my recipe is similar, and yes... DeCecco is the way to go! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas (the editor, too!) and have a wonderful new year! Sending love from NYC!
@@dominicksimonetti6726 ok because i use your alls recipe for the sauce ( love it by the way) so fry them to crisp them then put them in the sauce because Im cutting up some sweet sausage I have to put in it as well
This is going to be done next Saturday ! I got a monster can of tomatoes rather than the four “big” cans like yours. I remember the Alka Seltzer ad you reference, it was hilarious!
Followed you recipe exactly tonight. The sauce was so simple to make and it came out perfect. The meatballs would have been great but IMO 2 cups of breadcrumbs was 1 cup too many. They tasted more like bread than meat. Thanks for the recipe and Happy Newe Year!
3rd generation Italian here. I’ve seen some things done here that are foreign to me. Not that it’s wrong. Just a different approach. I’ve never seen the basil throw in the base for the sauce. I’ve always noted the basil being introduced at the end prior to the sauce being served. And I’ve never seen raw meatballs added to the sauce. They’re generally baked in an oven, or as I do it, fried on the stove to brown them. I guess it works for you. Must make a more tender meatball
I was taught to fry the meatballs and sausage before adding to the sauce. When finished frying the meat, you scrape the browned bits and add them to the sauce. They dissolve as it simmers for hours, flavoring the sauce.
So funny...this morning I made a pot "sugu" with meatballs!!!! Had such a taste for pasta after all the Christmas fish & Holiday specialties. Great minds think alike!!!! Next time I make meatballs, I will add the chicken broth to try it - I never heard of that, but I'm sure it's delicious. Thank you for another great video & Happy, Healthy New Year to you & your families.😊🎉
Bros. I used the chicken stock today, wow! I remember My Mom chasing me down the street with her wooden spoon. Thanks for the recipe and the fond memories of my Mom.
You guys are funny great job .For those people who are not familiar with our culture I'm glad you mentioned the different techniques in which the meat balls can be cooked .Fried, oven baked or directly in the sauce people should try all the different ways all are great .Note I always add fresh herbs at the end and never add pepper directly to hot oil only salt to sweat the onions and other spices once the tomatoes are added and I didn't see you guys add oregano try it next time it brings the flavor to another level .Bon Appétit men .
Thanks for this recipe. Made it once already and it was a hit. Love the part about the wooden spoon. Mothers up here in Canada use the same method 😂😂😂. I personally bought shares in the wooden spoon industry. Mom kept breaking them on my butt 😂. Just joking but the spoon has touched my tush once or twice but I deserved it…. Thanks guys
Man, I am so glad I don't live near you guys, I would weigh 300 lbs. Haha !! Wait, I'm in Miss. your in Texas, hey close enough. It always looks amazing Dom and Paul. I think we need to have a 2024 new customer challenge. Who can get the most new customers in 2024? Dom's cooking or Paul's commentating?? Brotherly love. As good as the food always is, the episode about your sweet Mother was the best by far. Great job and Happy New Year ! Kev
New subscriber for sure. I’m going to go back to just dropping the meatballs in the sauce instead of baking first. Less work for me lol. Yr comment on the wooden spoon cracked me up. We had a metal cabinet n every time the utensil draw would open it would make a metal noise n I knew the wooden spoon was coming lol. Have a happy n healthy new year.
The wooden spoon. Ouch! My mom broke a few on me too. It got to the point where i would hide them. Then i saw her going for the broom. After that i left the spoons where they were. lol nice shirt Dom. That recipe lit my fire. corny, but i Couldn't resist. Looks good guys. i like that chicken broth addition.
Can the meat balls be frozen that are cooked in the gravy as we only eat 4 when we have Spaghetti & Meatballs? Thanks and have a wonderful day. That is the way my Mom did her meat balls, but I am afraid of not getting them cooked all the way thru.
@@BrooklynBrothersCooking Thanks was not sure as I know my Mom cooked them in the sauce, but she would just cook enough for us to eat and two extras for sandwiches the next day for lunch. I might just make a bunch and freeze some prior to cooking then can take out what I need for the next batch of sauce.
Yummy guys love spaghetti / meatballs, hope your Christmas 🌲 was good one ?? For sure god bless you guys 🙏😇✝️❣️ Àmen, my mom wiuld cook the meatballs in the sauce oh so good yum_yun, well it's good to see you both, have a great weekend !!! 10:56
Question for you. Whey, whenever you use ground beef, you always stress that you use the 80/20 meat? Why don’t you use one of the leaner packages? Is it just your preference or is there another reason?
So once you add the meatballs you continue cooking for 30 minutes and done? I’ve made the exact same recipe (sauce and meatballs), which I got from my Italian Brooklyn-born and raised mom, who got it from her Italian mom from Bari, Italy. We have always cooked it for 2 hours AFTER adding the meatballs. The additional time gives more substance and flavor to the sauce and the meatballs are soft and juicy - you barely have to touch them with a fork to cut them.
How lean are the meats you use, is 90/10 fine or should i go for the fatty 80/20? Id rather be a bit healthier with the 90/10 but if you think the flavour isnt nearly as good then ill gladly do 80/20
You pulled that stock pot out of nowhere like Catherine Scorsese pulling up the painting of the two dogs. One dog goes one way and the other one goes the other way.
@@dominicksimonetti6726 Tell me how many times did your Mom wave a wooden spoon at you when she caught you dunking crusty Italian bread in the sauce? Lol. Priceless memories guys.👍
