WARNING Graphic Content On the all day trip April 27th, 2019, we witnessed 5 transient Killer Whales attack and kill a Gray whale from start to finish. Sit back, relax, and enjoy watching nature at its finest.
@@pepitoaus the mother didn't die in the video. The mother did everything she could but in the end, killer whales are stronger. This happens more than we realize, the mothers know they are defeated and swim away.
Sarah S if you compare the sizes of the whales, you would notice the last remaining whale is the mother (larger than any other killer whale) which get dragged under and already looks in bad shape.
@dolphingoreeaccount7395 unfortunately orcas usually do not kill their victims right away. Especially for larger prey like gray whales. Usually they manage a few bites and leave their victim bleed to death or they try to drown it
@@winkleberrygangIf I understand it correctly, they are only after the tongue. Once they get what they need they leave which generally means the whales drown and/or bleed to death
Saddest part is the mom trying to keep baby afloat, baby trying to stay close, but orcas hitting precisely over and over and momma can't do anything :c
@@wichienkocharee9793There's no malice in the actions of orcas (or any predator), they are simply doing their assigned role in the ecosystem, that being predation.
@@marioare859 That's why they drag seals out into the ocean and flip them around with their tails for the fun of it, right? Nothing wrong with it, but they are smart enough to be assholes.
I hate when people make the argument that animals can’t feel emotion. You can visibly see the mother trying to defend her baby and being heartbroken by the outcome.
it’s especially sad because she’s so large, it’s easy for the killer whales to take down her calf but there’s not much she can do to stop it from happening. it’s nature at its finest, but you know that momma whale was grieving
@@Nesa.007 There is nothing badass about about Orcas. Even Lions will still be near the top of the food chain if they were to hunt alone, while Orcas will be at the medium if they weren't in pods.
@HexTech Nobody in this comment section has no feeling for a baby cattle being separated from his/her mother cow, before being brutally killed in a slaughterhouse. Only feel outrage of a pod of orcas killing a Mother & baby whale for food, but no outrage over a cow having her baby taken away to the slaughterhouse.
They only attack whales when they have nothing else to prey on, like fish! Because man has raped the oceans and now enjoys spectacles in nature like this for his sick amusement I pray for Armageddon
Tongue and liver are the most beneficial to their health and they know that anytime they decide to hunt they’ll mostly likely be successful being the apex predator allows luxury 😭
@Richie T. That was an adult male whale, not a calf. Male gray whales are smaller than female gray whales. Fucking look that up. Gray whale calves are no where bigger than a 30 feet Transient Male orca. These Orca pods use a powerful shockwave attack to stun their prey to death, including these whales they are moving around, and eating. Inuits harpooned endangered baby Bowhead whales in the back, and don't even stun the whale(they give the endangered baby whale they are hunting, a very slow painful death), now where do I see anyone hating Inuits for torturing their hunt to death(which the government of alaska, and canada is allowing)?
@@besim109AOG Harpooning a whale is brutal, but not for these Transient orcas stunning their prey to death. Whalers don't stun the whale to death, instead, they use a harpoon to give the whales so much great tremendous pain, and a very slow death. Both Icelanders, Faroese, Norwegians, and Eskimos don't even stun the whale when killing them.
We know whales are complex creatures, I can’t imagine what it must be like to watch your baby calf being beaten and ripped to shreds....while the comments saying “it’s nature” are correct, I do feel like “empathy” is also human nature.
True, it's nature, as in, a fallen world corrupted by violence. A far cry from paradise which will be restored by God one day... If people had any heart at all, they would feel sorrow for an unjust killing such as this. As a mother, I certainly feel empathy for a mother who was raising her baby and had it ripped from her by a gang of Orcas who only wanted her baby's tongue. Animal or human, empathy is important.... They are beautiful creatures and the filming is excellent, but I'm waiting for the day when there will be no more violence like this against anyone.....
@@bmshaven So let me get this straight. You’re outraged over the fact that the orca killed a baby whale, and your argument is that it could have...killed anything else instead? Lmfao 😂😂😂
I know this is part of the circle of life but this is the most heartbreaking video I've ever watched of a baby whale being attacked and taken away from its mother then killed. My heart goes out to all the animals in this world. The fight to live another day goes on for predator and for prey! 😔😢🐋🌊💔
@@chuckjones6914 - Yeah they are because People have choices to do what's right or wrong, but animals are only doing what they have to in order to survive each day. People do things because they just want to do it because it's fun or they enjoy the feeling it gives them when they're doing it...not out of necessity. Like I said before, I understand that animals have to kill in order to survive but most people don't have to do it in order to survive, but this documentary isn't about people it's about the animals.
@@Imhimhesme209 - well you see now that's where you're wrong cuz I for one don't eat meat so therefore I don't need any animals slaughtered or killed in order to survive. I survive just fine on what I eat so that statement doesn't apply to everyone...ok
0:13 the orca came just in the right angle and spins the water with its fluke to turn the whale. Orcas are amazing, they are not just smart they even have something like culture. In different places they speak and eat different. Very interesting.
That's my angle and what I admire here. Those head shots had that baby whale leaking. The killer whales are smaller but smarter and use teamwork to eat and survive
Lamar Taylor The calf was bleeding because the Orcas bit off part of its tongue, not from the head butts. They go after the baby’s tongue and soft lower jaw area and leave the rest. There was another video on this channel where a bull Orca ripped out a calf’s entire tongue with one body roll. It was brutal but...hey...circle of life.
Usually I never feel emotional seeing anything hunted by another animal as it is part of how nature works. But something about whales.... seeing them die is heart breaking for me. Especially this mother with her baby. Their distress is something else as they are extremely intelligent.
Yeah, but the killer whale is an interesting apex predator. It plays with it's prey and has more than one target prey. I do feel bad for anything that is being hunted by an Orca. I don't feel so bad for bad in other forms of nature when the predator has a single prey and survival depends on the hunt.
Even the mom waited 60 days to get a baby but the orcas showed up and thr baby tried to defend hitting the orcas and the mom can't do anything poor Grey whales a baby Grey whale hitting a orca the orca is a same size of a Grey whale prey for all animals God gave us
Yep. Ive seen tons of the predator kills/eats prey clips over the years. This particular one hits different. Very gut wrenching to say the least.......
There are sharks that those killer whales could have been hunting. Grey whales are not only intelligent but considered the “friendly whales “ they are curious and swim right up to boats… 💔
People don’t realize how hard an Orca can ram. The faster and heavier the animal, the greater the force. For a full grown killer whale, that’s 480,000 foot pounds of energy . To put that in perspective, that’s equivalent of a rockets initial thrust into outer space.
The way the orcas dance around the two whales ceaselessly is absolutely incredibly beautiful and sadistic. The choreography is perfect ! The coordination incredible with orcas swimming under , jumping over their preys with grace and elegance in an infinite ballet with only one outcome : death !
Yes ! The fate of the ocean lies in the maintainers of the sea: orcas ! They move swiftly, yet with precision and coordination. The epic tragedy of this is the feeing that you can’t do anything about it, but it’s okay. 👍 otherwise, you too would perish at the fins of the hated, yet beloved: orca ! If you are still interested in this, go out to sea as Ahab once did..you’ll discover you’re inherent nautical abilities and face the raw exposure to sea: life ! Fight the urge to ‘dance’ with these beasts, you are not one of them. Remember where you have come from and what you stand for. You..will..prevail !
Meanwhile!! ...in a human abortion clinic! It's amazing the lengths a mother in the animal kingdom will go to, to protect her child. Humanity, could afford to take a page, or two, from such a beastial playbook. Then again, humans, are nothing more than, evil, hairless monkeys, who learned how to fashion tools, to become the most dangerous threat to the planet itself. What can one really expect?
@@squash2097 Or, far worse, have weaponized their child, as an instrument of destruction, in a nasty divorce/custody case. It's like the song by Pat Benatar, "Hell is for Children." We, as a society, create such daemons, & yet still believe, we are entitled to claim victim hood, when they unleash their wrath, & vengeance, to burn the village to the ground, just to have some warmth in their abused, & damaged lives.
That baby gave up a valiant fight for life, trying to roll each time a ram attack was incomming and managed to survive so much longer then I have seen any other calf Orcas attack.....usually once the Mother Whale has had to make the choice to abandon baby before they are both killed and leaves Orcas finsh the calf within a minute holding it down to drown....this one fought on for an amazing long time afterwards
@@DirtyMikeHoncho No not a hundred times...more like 10...i live in BC Canada and we have Orcas here all year round as well as on the grey whale migration route
THis is true of all predators around the globe. We have somehow been pre-programmed to be off the menu. While people do sometimes get eaten, it is not common.
@@ladybimshire6808 : There are approximately 75,000 species of Terrestrial and Aquatic predators on the Planet and only 12 have somewhat common run-ins with humans. The Great White is dangerous but avoid vertical animals in the water. Bull sharks bite by accident but more often. Lions on occasion. But rarely hunt humans. The Crocodile is about the only one that is known to sit and wait. But if challenged they often avoid humans. Bears do not hunt humans. Wolves, Hyenas, and Tigers rarely do. It is as if we are not tasty or we make them nervous. My statement stands firm. Debate it if you desire. But we are just not on the main course menu for any animal.
There's almost nothing the whale could have done. The only thing that the whales have is that the ocean is such a vast space that this type of encounter is just very rare.
@@samoanbiscuit8795 not so much as faster but have way more stamina and are more energy efficient and typically can just outdive orcas into deeper depths.
So huge yet so gentle. I wish they cud fight harder than that. I wonder how tragic and intensed the stress call made by the weak calf. He probably screamed so loud for help.. And the mother tried so hard to comfort and be by his side.
True, she tried to keep the baby above her & close as possible, but no match for those expert killers. The baby was mortally wounded & couldn't stay with her anymore...
Incredible footage. Its amazing to see how one species has adapted so many different styles of hunting. The intelligence, precision and coordination is something we will never fully understand. It may be cruel to us but nature isn't cruel. It's the circle. Never a wasted energy.
@@firstnamelastname8790 You couldn't be more incorrect. Energy cannot be created or destroyed. All of the energy that was in the universe from the beginning, will be here for eternity.
Remember that the Orcas only eat one part of the blue whale, but once dead it will feed a myriad of other fish down the food chain. Nature wastes nothing.
The collision at 20 seconds in is amazing. Just imagine being hit by a train going 40 mph. Surprised that didn’t kill the poor guy. Nature is beautiful and brutal
@@usernameonutube ur a fucking psychopath when u get arrested and then come out 20 years later for killing someone come back here and tell me how jail was
always that one guy who thinks he's some cool badas$ wildlife expert that has to constantly remind people its life/cycle of nature.. like we fkn know you aren't wise or anything, the video is still sad dumbas$
This is a pod of outlaws. They are breaking the law. Gray whales are endangered and a protected species. This video is incrimination. Either Seaworld will capture them or the Galatic Federation of Light will educate and indoctrinate them to become pescatarian like good little orcas are supposed to be.
@@anuyahawah3056 I will ask you now Who made them endangered in the first place???? Us..... The killers are just doing their things We were the ones responsible if they're extinct in the future
It's amazing to watch the cow try to protect her calf & on the flip side how coordinated, persistent & brutal the Orcas are. Simultaneously beautiful & vicious.
What amazes me is how the heck does whales actually grow up to be adults. Killer whales and Japanese whalers everywhere and how there's even an adult whale of any kind in the ocean is truly amazing in itself.
Danger is just a part of life for wild animals. Compared to most, whales don’t have it too bad. Orcas and large sharks are the only natural predators that may go for a whale calf
I love orcas and always have since i first heard about them, but imagine how much jt sucks to be stuck in the middle of nowhwere without any cover or protection. Mother nature is cruel but beautiful at the same time
I know that they did kill the calf but imagine being a baby and being strong enough to put up a fight against a pod of killer whales! Everything in nature is remarkable!!
There was no “putting up a fight”, my friend. Don’t sensationalize. That baby was obliterated with surgical accuracy. The mother took damage simply trying to shield the APEX Predators from her baby. . .but there was no “fight”. With ORCA - there never is.
@@denisjohnson8198 first, I didn't sensationalize anything! The only reason you think my comment is sensationalization is because you are a arrogant fool! The calf fought and struggled to the death, the only reason you aren't impressed by the calf not stopping until death is because your a arrogant fool! The fact you can't see, recognize, or respect the calf's efforts identified yourself as disrespectful and foolish!! Second, I don't need you to tell me what Orca's are capable of, I'm aware! Third, I hope you use this to see how awesome all nature is and see that nature should have our upmost respect! Last, I'm not your friend!!
@@bryanelam7431 I’m not reading all that (after the first 2 sentences when you started name-calling). Your estrogen levels are spiking, kiddo - they make a treatment for that🤣 #StaySalty🤣
@@denisjohnson8198you don't have the courage to continue reading what I said and yet you try to make me out as the weaker person, damn! I now know the reason why you don't respect the calf's efforts and it's courage, it's because you don't have any! By the way it wasn't name calling it was a accurate description of you! Maybe if you are capable of reading this reply you can be introduced to courage and what it means! Can't finish reading a comment because of name calling, I bet your dad is proud of you!!
@@Gaminf_N0ob no amazing. Humans kill for the fun of it. That's depressing. These killer whales kill to eat. To survive. Nothing depressing about that.
Astonishing footage captured here. Sure , its hard to watch but, these dramas happen each second on a day to day basis on this beautiful planet. It is difficult to understand how they spend so much of their own energy just to eat the tongue. It can only be attributed to some sort of delicacy.
jamesd2128 they’re probably plotting waiting on a day to break out of sea world and destroy human life as we know it. They’re so smart I wouldn’t doubt if it was all a plan.
That is so sad and amazing at the same time, but trying to imagine what the mother is experiencing is completely heart breaking, but this is wild life predation so it is what it's supposed to be I guess
The mother tried really hard to keep the baby afloat. The mother was beneath the surface pushing up the baby for the most part while the killers were trying to sink it to drown the baby
I feel for mother and her baby, yes knowing her baby is also being attacked, they are unfortunately outnumbered, one killer whale would never take on an adult grey whale on it's own and and the killer whales KNOW it. These killer whales are cowards of the animal kingdom. They just ruin 2 lives destroy a whale family. I can NEVER enjoy watching this, bt only watched it to understand better what they go through and in a sick way share negative experience, almost as if I'm by the grey whale's sides, with them in spirit I guess. Fuck killer whales hope they become extinct 😡😡
@@random4969 Killer whales are classified as dolphins, so they travel and hunt in pods, working together to take on a bigger hunt doesnt make them cowards its thier nature. Can't believe you watched killer whales hunt just to complain about their natural instincts, guess your spirit didn't do much in the end huh?
This was pure brutal murder in cold blood Ocean Water 😢. I feel utterly sad for the baby grey mum whale & yeah i get it the nature of life but it's sad to watch any life be taken away especially in front of there mum
And only for the tongue, a delicacy. ... True it's nature corrupted by the violence that's here, but one day God will make it paradise again and all will live together in peace & harmony.. Isaiah 11:6-9... Whoever cannot feel for a mother trying to save her baby from a gang of cruel murderers has something wrong with their heart... ....
Lol. "Pure brutal murder". Smh. There is no such thing in the animal kingdom. The only thing that would probably be close are monkeys who kill other clans, sometimes for no obvious reason, and pride male lions who WILL kill other nomadic males that come into their territory no questions asked. And some times the nomads kill the pride males. But that is a biological imperative so that the strongest genes are passed along and to prevent inbreeding. This was done for food. Full stop. That's not to say that there isn't evidence that some Orca pods do enjoy the hunt and kill, but that isn't surprising. Orca are The smartest life form on the planet behind humans and I have ZERO doubt they are self aware and know what's going down. But at the same time they are THE apex predator of the Ocean. Nothing else comes close. Orca will and HAVE killed full grown great whites in literally minutes and turned the terror of humans in the water into literal chum in less than an hour.
@Haneefah Moore I feel sad that you just ate the flesh of a Baby cattle(who was separated by his mother) when you ate a burger from McDonald's. You are so cruel murderer for doing that, LMAO.
@@brendaann727 The J-wish prophet, Isaiah(who your quoting from), instructed his tribes to kill gentile Children's, and ra*e their mothers, in Isaiah 13:16. It seems like you have no feelings for that.
Saddest thing ever seen by you? Not the mass killings of other people by other people all over the world, not mass starvation, or millions of people "living" in refugee camps all over the world, many of whom will spend the rest of their probably short lives in those camps. An Orca, whose name literally translates into "whale killer" not "killer whale", killing a whale to eat is the saddest thing? Get some perspective guy.
They don’t drag it down. It sinks, and thats what sucks for the orcas. They only get a few moments to feed on the whale before it’s bodies sinks to the ocean floor for other creatures
Fun fact: "killer whale" is a mistranslation from Portuguese (common mistake since Latin languages put subject and verb/adjective in the opposite order than English), they should actually be called "whale killlers".
And I would add that orcas are whale killers as you wrote (you are right on this fact)...but the name "killer whale" means that the orcas (they are whales too) are killing...and not just other whales. Le français est ma langue première, alors je sais de quoi je parle... :) French is my first language, so I know what I'm talking about... Sir :)
@@SuperDelo71 plz read entire standard resonse i use, : Yes, I am a whaler, i eat dolphins, i try kill them humanely and do it sustainably and not take more than needed. not commercial. hate me all u want, never gonna change, for me whale/dolphin meat is normal, like u eat pigs, cow etc and people in india think eatiing that is weird and an outrage. but lets do facts here: Killer whale is correct english term, since "orca" is totally in correct since its a binomial nomencleture, and is the species. u can NOT do that without putting in genera/genus) Orcinius. genus always capital first letter, species NEVER! many animals can share same species name, like "orca" but NEVER share same genus and species at same time, so Orcinus orca or O. orca is taxonomically correct. since there could be a H. orca, the O. orca is VERY important. secondly, stop correcting from "its not a whale but a dolphin" it sounds retarded because its so much deeper. in ceataceans (whales) there are families and subfamilies. dolphins belong to Delphinanea, family. thats a family in ceataceans(whales in common speak) so yes they are whales! Blue whales and Bowhead are not only not in same genus they not even in same family. as big a difference between them as between O. orca and the blue whales(cant remember their binomial nomencleture, i am spider person, not marine person(spiders belong in entomology) So point, they are whales! another point. all domesticated animals started as wild caught and wild animals. keeping big whales like killer whales in captivity should only be done if u have a bio setup, with natural prey(live prey) and not chlorinated water but bio flora and a HUGE tank and a good pod. then its okay :) But NO ONE could ever afford that! so it cant be done setting them free? 1. most will die, they cant even hunt! 2. most are hybrids. their are subspecies in the O. orca, and seaworld etc have mixed the subspecies and we do NOT want to pollute if one survives and crossbreeds! period! keep animal bloodlines clean! enough animals are destroyed, just look at snake hobby! attacks in wild DO OCCUR! and they are violent! search "hans+surfer+california+72+killer whale+bite" and u can see many sites with several attacks. NON fatal YET but bloody and serious! so stop the myth about no attacks in the wild. and just because there is no recorded fatality does not mean it has not happened. MANY people die each year from snake bites but officially maybe 100-200 world wide die because no official report or cause of death is done. same with shark attacks. so there might be more attacks even fatal ones which has not been recorded and hence not in official statistics.
Cee Cee Plentiful People like you are annoying, but I kind of see where you’re coming from. But Yk sometimes people just want to write a quick comment and not worry about spelling errors. Lmao even tho English wasn’t his first language.💀
Says who? Their sheer size is their defense. In this clip, the orcas win. But if you looked for other clips, you could see that orcas failed many times too.
Cee Cee Plentiful people like you are annoying and obnoxious, who honestly gives a flying fuck that they spelled 1 fucking word wrong? Life is too depressing to be stressing on the regular about dumb worthless shit like that.
A seal, a shark, a whale-they are all living organisms who will fight for their lives. What a weird comment to make. What is brutal to the calf is survival for the orca and a host of other animals, too. Whales are a great source of energy. That whale carcass, when the orcas are finished with it, will help feed all manner of scavengers as it floats and eventually sinks. A whale fall will attract all kinds of animals and will help them to survive.
I know it’s the life cycle but I’m a mom and I can’t help but feel so emotional seeing the mama try to protect her baby and the baby trying to get away in vain.
Tough neighborhood. Just another trip to the grocery store for the Orca pod. Post the collective wrecking ball stun session, the classic spin cycle method employed by these pods to repeatedly roll and drown the large whales will never cease to absolutely blow my mind. The coordination and communication exhibited is staggering to behold.
I thought my eyes deceived me I saw the calve trying to squeeze to its mother. I thought they killed both. It was simultaneously one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking things I've ever seen. The coordinated attack , just amazing. The loss devestating 😢😢
man that is sad. I know killer whales have to eat but a pod of whales drowning a baby just to eat it's tongue? really? and to think humans just throw their babies in the trash if it's convenient.
Reminds me of a documentation about a russian serial killer who has killed over 20 women in a very special way. I thought what a wonderful, intelligent human beeing, and there have been really good footage too!
thanks for unpload this amazing event..drone pilot worth a big excellent!!. If possible, could you please update a full version video of the whole event, as I saw humpback join the fight at last on that day...
The mother made the heartbreaking decision to let nature take it's course. By leaving she lives on to hopefully mate again. The cycle of life can be sad but: life finds a way.
Asking myself the same question...maybe we need to see all of life, not just the nice parts. Then accept that this is the planet we are on, it is not heaven.
I adore orcas. This was the first time i felt sympathy for their prey. I also felt bad for the momma Grey. She tried to protect her baby as long as she could. This made me start thinking about helpless human babies that die from abuse. This was so sad to watch. I have over 250 orca videos. This is the only one that I wanted the pod to back off. I'll never forget this. It was that powerful😣
Must remind myself, also, not to have feelings like terror, horror, revenge when a shark takes/attacks someone and tell myself "it's just nature at its finest".
The first time I watched this I thought the gray calf had first been drowned before the Orca viciously ripped out its tongue (this is the only part they eat), however, the second time I watched it back the gray calf is still breathing until they finally pull it under water, long after they've all taken turns getting into its mouth and ripping its tongue out. Heartbreaking and equally astonishing to see the ocean world.
The emotions I feel when watching this! Sadness for the whales, then astonishment to the pure power and coordination of the orcas. This is NATURE. Beautiful and Amazing, but cruel and unforgiving at the same time.
@Brittany Rose Why do you not feel sadness for a baby cow being taken to the slaughterhouse to become veal, or Jews doing their cruel kosher slaughter of a lamb for passover seder(after the lamb is separated from his mother)? Of course, the smaller whale is an adult male, and not a baby(since baby gray whales are no where bigger than adult male Transient orcas), but why feel only sad about this, but not sad about lambs being brutally slaughter through kosher rituals for passover, or baby cows becoming veal?
sky 1187- They have power for speed and in their tails, but their best chance is to outrun.... Their large size handicaps them in the maneuverability department....
2:54 is by far one of the hardest things to ever have to witness ngl 😩 on top of soon realizing you’re all alone and most likely won’t make it out alive 💔
Judging where some of the orcas mouths are, which is pretty much inside the humpbacks mouth, I’m of the belief that they had started eating the baby whales tongue while it was still alive. The humpback was still blowing air out
