I don’t use pesticide in my Secret Garden of Survival because I don’t want poisons in my organic food forest, that will end up in my food, in my animals, and in me.
However, Fire Ants do not have any natural enemies, so we have to find a way to get rid of them before they harm my garden, home and livestock.
This all natural organic spray of orange oil, molasses, and water will kill them by melting the fat covering that protects their bodies.
Learn how to make the spray and see how it kills the fire ants in this 2 ft. x 2 ft. mound in less than one day.
If you want to learn more about growing more food than you can eat, without chemicals, here are links to Rick’s books:

The problem is, that's only one mound. You'll find hundreds of mounds across your yard can all belong to the exact same colony. Their network under the ground is huge.

Anteaters could definitely eat the fire ants, but it would be highly unlikely that they could keep the population in check, seeing as the many predators already here (armadillos, antlions, birds, lizards, ect) haven't done much to stop them.

Fire ants don't hate molasses. The orange oil simple caused them to use another entrance for the mound. A colony always has another entrance or three. Mix boric acid, about 5% with molasses they will gobble it up and share with the colony and the queen. Then they are dead. And before you fruit out, boric acid occurs naturally in the soil.
@roslynshaw7103
@roslynshaw7103 5 лет назад

@RamPuppy
@RamPuppy 2 года назад
The orange oil contains D-limonene which actually attacks the waxy coating in the ants respiratory system. The molasses fuels an explosion of bacterial growth. The way you want to do a treatment like that is not with a sprayer - but with a jug, and drench the mound - pour in one spot so it goes deep into the mound. Yes, some ants may survive, a queen may survive, but their home is destroyed, has an unhealthy (for them) growth of bacteria - and probably soon to follow fungi - so they are going to move on. No treatment is perfect, but orange oil is pretty effective on fire ants.

The couple of times I've gotten fire ants in my garden beds I simply piled a bit of hot manure on top of the nest. The ants relocate somewhere else and I'm left with a fertilized bed. If they don't leave then add more manure and stir it into the nest. Haven't had it fail yet.

If you have more than one mound ,take a shovel and dig up a section of one mound take it to the next mound and lay it on that one. The ants will kill each other and the queen. check after a few days . Just keep laying the mounds on top of each other. I give credit to a farmer in Mississippi i believe that has a You Tube channel. An ant mound is just 1 of many that make up a colony of identical sisters covering an acre or more. Killing 1 nest helps a little. Home remedies rarely "kill the nest", the ants simply move to another area on established "highways". Larvae present does not mean there is a queen in that mound. Eggs are transported from the queens mound to the sattelite mounds. Best time to kill a mound is when larvae are present, the ants are reluctant to abandon them.

Right about the queen. If you don't kill her they will just borough underground to a new location. The ant colony can be up to 4' underground. I have had good luck taking a shovel (with a point on it) and scooping up a bunch of ants, dump them onto another next and watch the war being. They think they are being invaded and kill each other.

As there was a study where the same thing was done except on a larger scale they brought the ants in from Europe and there was no fight nothing as they were related to each other so it has been concluded that most of te Fire ants in US, Europe, even Japan were related and was the same colony.

Open the valve on a tank of carbon dioxide and fill the ant bed with that! All three are heavier than air and would settle in the ant bed and suffocate the ants. I realize the Butane is flammable and could be a problem in an urban area! Anyone tried the above?, How successful was your attempt?

And why was there a botle of bleach? and what was the fluid in the sprayer before you added the orange oil and molasses withe some water?
@SurvivalistGardener
@SurvivalistGardener 8 лет назад
The bleach has nothing to do with the ant solution... We have 60 animals and the building with water is near the barn, so periodically we disinfect the animals water buckets by using chlorine. The only think in the sprayer beforehand was some left over fire ant solution from previous use.

Looking for alternative to seven dust. I usually just use that and resort to chemical warfare. Tiny bastards multiply fast and wreck everything if ignored.

The best method is to pee on the mounds. Plus it will keep your neighbors from bothering you. All seriousness aside, spend $10 at Home Depot for Ortho Fire Ant powder & make a border around your foundation. Stinks but they are gone for months.

thanks for the video, i was looking up ways to kill fire ants as i just found a huge nest of em right next to where a bunch of gopher tortoises have there nests and since they are just about extinct now i figured id try to kill off the ants before they get into the tortoises nests. just trying to be a nice guy since its something i can do easily and hopefully help them out, cause why not?

1/4 c molases and also orange oil. What is orange oil recipe? Add how much water? Did this work with one application or are more needed?

Matt- I wear those clothes because they hold up better than any traditional 'farmer' clothes/ jeans, etc. In fact, I have military pants that have lasted me over 10 years on the farm... I haven't had a single pear of jeans that can last more than two weeks after going through blackberry bushes, etc.
