I wrote the instructions on that bag of Paragon kiln cement in 1985. I mixed batches of cement with water, glued scrap firebricks, labeled them, and fired them in a kiln. I used the water-to-cement ratio that had the strongest bond in the instructions. Before my tests, the factory used to say, "Mix the cement to the consistency of peanut butter." (I worked at Paragon.)
Some of those bricks just needed replacing. A good time to do that is when you are changing elements anyway. Are you going to keep the other two as electric, or maybe convert one to gas for reduction firing?
From the very first renovation to this one.. how are you so sure you can get the thing fixed! I mean I probably will give up at the changing ceiling tube part, if not then update the outlet part...
Appreciate the vid. Purchased a used GARE Kiln w/ a BARTLET RTC 1000 CONTROLLER. Looked great when purchased. It was put in storage for about a year till shop was built and wired. Plugged it in for the first time, only to find the manual has disappeared. Good thing control panel lights come on. But noticed several cracks in the bottom of kiln. Also some side bricks or tiles also. The top is not without cracks or blemishes. First firing will be done outside. Test firing only. Is there any kiln cement better than the other? In your opinion? At what point do you not repair but replace kiln parts? Will watch for your answer.
Hi there. Enjoyed the video. I have pretty much the same kiln, probably a little older, Model A66B. I bought it from a guy who said it worked. It doesn’t. Then somebody else told me I needed to get the paragon touch and fire sentinel smart touch to make it work. I did that and it still doesn’t work. I’m watching your video and figuring I need to do what you just did. can you pretty please guide me to add where you bought the items, and which items you bought? My bricks aren’t broken but nothing happens when you turn it on.
My kiln started to have heat spots on the metal outside the kiln on the lid, where you can see the heat was escaping tiny crack areas and creating greyish heat spots. Im wondering if this is bad? Everything looks good. My element coils were installed new 5 years ago and i dont use the kiln often. The brick looks fine and not chipped at all. Just wondering should i be concerned?
Hello, I am using a Rohde brand oven and it has 4 rows of coils. These coils are sorted 2 by 2. Only 1 coil was damaged. Do you think changing just one of them will cause a problem?
