This week, Ginny, Mike and Tom shoot the electric breeze on a variety of subjects, including World Car of the Year, the long-awaited return of the Ford Explorer and Omoda's arrival in the UK . The team also answer listeners' questions to help them find the perfect electric car.
If you have a car buying question or want to be included in our postbag, add your comment below or message us at info@electrifying.com.
Every week, the Electrifying.com meet online to discuss all the important matters at hand. Such as the weather, what we’re all having for our tea and who dumped who in last night’s Love Island. Between these heavyweight subjects, we also talk about electric cars. A lot. Probably an unhealthy amount to be honest.
And when we do discuss cars, we find out a lot. From industry gossip to the more mundane practicalities of electric car ownership, it’s the place where we dish the dirt on the cars we’ve been driving and deliver our own verdicts on the latest electric car news. We also like to have a good laugh at the daftest bits of anti-electric news that we’ve seen in the press.
We can’t promise that you’ll learn much. You probably won’t. But if you fancy 30 minutes of idle chat and gossip about the world of electric cars, we’re here for you. If you like it / hate it / think it’s too long or too short, let us know.

I'm looking forward to the Panda and Inster tests as I want to go full electric and down size. They both seem to fit the bill.

Good to hear ride being discussed. When doing test drives I tend to ask where the nearest speed bumps are, sometimes to the barely hidden disgust of the sales person.

I just want to say thank you again for recommending the Model 3 Highland. I discovered another bonus to the Tesla as I was parked in a public car park over a weekend. On the Saturday night, I was alerted to my alarm going off and next morning found damage to the f/o/s where the bumper had been pulled away and a hole was punched into it. No note left on the windscreen. Thankfully sentry mode saved the day and showed a Range Rover parked next to me and pulling away hitting the Tesla then reversed to detach from my car and drive off, giving full view of the offending vehicle. if I had not bought the Tesla I would not have known what had happened. So thank you for the recommendation.

I'm in my early 30's, so don't remember the Capri being new. But the 2.8i mk3 Capri is my favourite car, and this Not-Pri is a pure, unbridled insult to the quad headlighted glory of the original Capri's!

The weird thing about the Capri is that it is just a 'coupe' version of the Explorer so they're using two model names for essentially the same car.

I'm getting 300 easily (320 on a warm day) in my first gen Kia e-Niro atm, and in March when I got it, it was getting a real world 280 in 3-4 degrees (4+ with heat pump). I'd say it will get 250 ok based on my experience. :)

This past week two big wrongdoings have been done in EV world Ford naming new coupe SUV Capri, they should use name like Capri for EV that MG shown at FOS the Cyberster GTS 2+2 electric coupe 😍 😍 ❤❤❤❤❤ And second is new Panda should be 4wd , the Panda name is at least here in Slovenia known as nimble goat like climbing small off-roader, for masses 😊❤❤ Another great podcast episode keep up with great work and greetings from sLOVEnia 😊😊

Love the podcast guys, always look forward to the weekly episode notification! Can anyone give an answer to what to me seems an obvious question which no one that I’ve seen has asked! Why has Audi not produced an estate/avant version of the GT eTron? Why did Porsche get the ok to do both a saloon and estate with the Taycan but not Audi who are arguably the estate masters?! Thanks x
@worldofcars_ldn
@worldofcars_ldn 2 месяца назад
I do think we need to let it go on the names re-used on cars and the comparisons to old models of the same. Manufacturers can’t be expected to keep rehashing new versions of old cars especially those car styles that are no longer popular! Scenic isn’t a MPV anymore! So it’s called a Capri, look forward not back!

As a Megane E-Tech owner I very much agree with your criticism of the drive stalk although I can just about manage having to navigate three stalks on the right hand side of the steering column. What annoys me more is that for drive you pull down whereas on my other car - a BMW i3 - the twist drive selector is more intuitive with twist forward/up for drive and twist back/down for reverse. I also get annoyed that the windscreen wiper stalk works in the opposite direction on the two cars. Surely there needs to be some standardisation and while the legislators are at it perhaps they would like to make it that some functions are mandatory activated by stalks even if it is going to upset Tesla. BTW I thought the Crapi I saw at the Goodwood Festival of Speed was ghastly. If Ford wanted to go retro they should have taken inspiration from Renault whose new 5 looks fantastic and actually combines the best of the old styling clues with modernity. The R5 is a far better effort than the new Mini. With the Megane, Scenic, 5 and the Dacia Spring, Renault are on an absolute roll.

Some old buses I used to drive had lights, Indicators, washers and horn all on one stalk. It was brilliant once you got used to it. D,N,R push buttons are basically standard across all buses now too, I don't know why car companies keep trying to make it different. Just stick them on the dash or door, Like the Citroen ami.

There goes your chance to review the electric Ford Puma 😂 What annoys me most is giving it a different model name even though it's virtually identical to an existing model, just with a coupe roofline. It's the same with the ID4 & 5. At least Skoda remain sensible with the Enyaq / Enyaq Coupe.

Ginny’s “admission” she is left handed caught my attention, because I am too. The world is not designed for us. Cars are not really designed for us. A useful additional piece of standard car reviewing would be whether the car works for a left hander. In my view it is at least as important as opinion about range and efficiency.

The best part about the Ford Capri is they will never get close to selling 22%. So it will get massively discounted and the lease deals will be fantastic. Already the iD4 is available for £350/mth on lease..... So imagine how cheap the Explorer and Capri will be!

I'm glad to hear your love for the Tesla still. It seems a lot of car reviews now slate Tesla (namely due to the lack of indicator stalk on the new M3) and the general consensus is now it's the boring option. As someone who is looking to buy a Model Y, I do wonder why there is a bit of 'hate' towards Tesla. Other than looking a bit bland, it's a great car with a large practical interior and general 'nice place to be'... so, thanks for reading that comment at the end... the search continues!

Yeahhhh kWHH. My favorite half hour EV stuff. Thanks all for the work and fun. I think, it is the story of the chicken and the egg. People buy . . . because the manufactures dont build anything else. We dont need a car with 4 doors, or even 4 seats. We were looking for an affordable 2 door Coupe, Hothatch or Cabrio . . . . . there are no. There is only an endless row of boring 4 door saloons, SUV's or MPV's. And about 65% of all households are solo or duo. . . . . I guess, there are a lot more people like us, that want to buy something different. But i think it is to costly to build more different models, so they claim: "Everyone wants a SUV, so we build it"

I think VW definitely got the better of that deal. They got the Amarok, which is awesome, and Ford got a bad version of the ID4 and ID5 (including stupid window switches).
@AlanTov

The window switches are good design. Stop the accidental opening of rear windows. Bizarre people seem obsessed and can't see that. (As they accidentally drop the rear windows for the 100th time...)
@Bullit151
@Bullit151 2 месяца назад
@@AlanTov Respectfully disagree. There is already a lock for the rear windows, to stop the kids playing with them. If it was good design they could just use that to stop the drivers switches too. And nobody does. It's just making you press more buttons for no good reason.

Capri should have been named the Bloater. Whereas the Panda though larger than the original, is pretty good. But the interior, oh my, only a mother could like it. If people want a high-rider, sell them Unimogs. Drive selector of Scenic, panders to people, who miss French cars if the 50s-early 80s. But it wasn’t a good placement then and it’s not now. The Panda’s coil lead - most artics use coiled hydronic hoses, for tethering the tractor to the trailer/s.

"I think I might of mentioned I didn't like it having the Capri name" 🙂 well only 20+ times. I do agree it is not the car to carry the name, My dad had a Mk2 which he loved. What it did was stop you actually reviewing the car, and given you so love the Skoda Enyak I'd be interested in knowing your real review of the car, ignoring the name. Maybe we need to wait until you get to drive it.

I don't think Ford care that people (even reviewers) are criticising the name, it's all just publicity for them. They did it to the Mustang, now the Capri. I don't like it, but then I'm not the one they are targeting.

Is the Crapri anything new? Does it have its own sense of style? Nope its just an ID5 and it will blend into all the other big electric SUVs out there that look the same and not sell particularly well. I think Ford has really messed up on its EV offerings.

I don't really mind Ford bringing back some classic legend names. It kind of means that the name lives on for a newer generation and comes the historic versions in people's minds, too. Havibg drove the Mustang MachE I really liked it. However, I just wish they had been braver with the design of the Capri less Polestar 2 and more original Ford design like when they launched the original Focus and late 90' early 2000's models.

Call it a Granada no one probably has a problem but sticking a Capri or Crapri was silly on it. If they think it will stir up conversation and that’s free advertising but wait till they don’t sell. Who wants to explain why it’s not a Capri. Yes Ford had to stop building the original because it had stopped selling and fell out of fashion. If only Ford had balls these days. The old “it’s what people want” so we are just copying everyone else offering the same but with a VW sorry Ford badge. Fiat, Alfa and Volvo all knocking it out the park.

Did you lay into BMW when they took the Mini name and attached it to an SUV? Did you attack VW when they ‘re-introduced the Beetle? It is just a name, on a different vehicle. So what! People buy SUVs because most of the vehicles for sale are SUVs. It’s just marketing! In my profession people apparently want ‘family bathrooms’, except when I ask do you really want the wife and children in the Bathroom with you on the toilet. The only reason the ‘family bathroom’ exists is to save the cost of a door and a wall, and sometimes a handwashing basin. Again, just marketing tells the customer what they want, car designers should be providing what they customer needs, which is what architects and chartered engineers do. Telling the customer what they want and then giving to them is an appalling way to do business! But the same sentence, with the word ‘need’ instead of ‘want’ is what should be happening. The European Ford Capri isn’t anything like the USA but then neither is the Ford Capri an Italian resort!.
