Kim Huat reflects on the case of the NUS Peeping Tom who was caught shooting a video of a student showering in the Ladies’ toilet. a production of mrbrown.com
There is something wrong with the juridical system. Our law is known to be harsh and unforgiving. All of sudden, they showed such leniency towards this NUS grad. There's something more than meets the eye.
What is strange is that the police passed judgement instead of going to the courts on this criminal offence and let the judicial system take its course. But we have Judge Dredd system.
When I was in secondary school, someone got expelled for taking upskirt videos. Even if he doesn't get the criminal record at the very least he should be expelled
the message NUS pass down to the public is: if you're intelligent and even as an adult, whatever crime committed the first time its perfectly acceptable.
Who knows perhaps Nicholas Lim had shown or circulated photo(s) to sm others already. Years later, girl may get a shock to see her naked pictures in sm porn websites. So what 1st offence - the damage is irreparable - did NUS or the police take tt into account???
All male undergraduate qualify to video female undergraduate for ONLY the first time. But must remember to write love letter and do not hide away. More fresh videos on the way .
The peeping Tom is lucky to get away scot free. He has a gf yet still wants to satisfy his sexual urge by going toilet to toilet to look for victims. He should go to court and slap with community work and fines.
A young peeping tom at tampines NTUC income got 12 weeks jail. That guy was a high flyer during his school days. How come if happen in NUS no need penalty? More students should try it out since that is the only time they can do it and only get penalised on strike two.
Because NUS mah, you give the boy jailtime NUS reputation cfm ruined. Govt scared affect NUS, so ask police, judge give lighter penalty, want to sweep this incident under carpet.
@@user-uo2sl5us8f That makes sense too. A lot of money has already been invested into perps in University. So as far as possible needs to give him a second chance. 😌
@@SuccessforLifester 2nd chance?? I can really bet that this is not the first time he or other perverts have done this. Also how do you think the victim felt when she has been traumatized for her whole life having to deal with insecurity and fear? 0 compensation 0 justice, just because this involved NUS.
I like what you said about the apology letter. Totally right, who would read that rubbish. People should be aware of the names of these offenders, don't discriminate them but at least you could be mindful and not be blind sided. And should at the very least give probation and curfew for a period of time to restrict their freedom. Without an impact to their life, it would quickly be forgotten.
Do not avoid the question. A crime is a crime! When is this case going to be re-open? Put that criminal on charge and let him stand trial for the court to decide! Can you imagine if an nus undergrad male now exercise his "right" filming your mother, sister, daughter, wife, niece, etc. Worse, if nobody knows, gone unreported, not being caught...etc.
w wwai I heard there was a previous case where the NUS dude was let off and he eventually got bolder and ended up with criminal charges. Idk what NUS and the police are expecting tbh. Is that not a good enough reason to toughen the rules and consequences for this kind of incorrigible behaviour like ???????
what stupid policy is this? if you are NUS students, first time offender get free out of jail card. then if you are not in the ivy league school like private school, first offender straight away go jail? what logic is that?
Uni student - aiyah just get him to gei gei write an apology letter. Poly student - 10 weeks jail. Sec student - corner him until he ownself jump lor. White knight - enter vehicle by one door n exit by the other door.
I knew of a married with 2 toddler kids police scholar NUS graduate with surname K committed adultery with shameless NUS graduate with the name initial RS also in police force and they happily married. So the peeping tom matter is just a small small joke.
So pissed off. Mr Brown, can u understand why women feel angry at patriarchy? We are underpaid, exploited as free caregiver, pay more health insurance n Medisave, then get sexual assaulted without justice. Mr Brown, thank u for speaking out against the injustice.
coffeenciggy how are women underpaid? A female lawyer gets paid the same as a male lawyer . Same for Doctors and Engineers and accountants and IT specialists. The wage gap is a myth. On average men in a given population earns more because certain jobs with high pay like firemen and search and rescue naval divers and oil rig workers are almost exclusively male because women physically cannot do the jobs due to the fitness requirements. Most men cannot meet the physical requirements for those jobs.
And it is happening in a " first world country" or so they called it! Totally appalled by the double standards that "they" are still practicing here! Come on, let's move forward. It is 2019 already!
Publised on 21 April 2019 In total, there were 20 reported cases of either insulting or outrage of modesty in the last three academic years not counting the current academic year. There were also six other sexually-related assault or harassment cases that were reported in that same time period, according to the data shown. sg.news.yahoo.com/group-nus-students-leak-past-125714621.html/
Just curious. Why wasn't he (the peeping tom) being charged on the public intoxication act, the films act, the harassment act, criminal trespassing or even the public nuisance act? If he drove to the NUS premises, then wouldn't it be considered driving under the influence(DUI)???
Singapore is known as a strict country?...? No gum, no smoking in many places ,no littering but can peep at NUS with light punishment if u are '1st timer ' get caught though he may has done many times!
I heard a case where the guy working film upskirt once kena caught but pay a few thousand dollars to the girl after civil court. case closed with no record. now he is in photography of girls lol. so pathetic.
Not police so kind. This asshole's family may have some "grassroots" connection and know someone important. The police can't afford to offend them. If you are a nobody, you tio whack gao gao liao.
for Monica Baey's peeping tom case, she was lucky to be able to identify the offender...but for victims who cannot find the offender or identify the offender or offender is a big group of people, victims will be blame by school mgmt for being a nuisance, trying to seek attention, shameless, etc...and the case will be brush aside with victims being publicly humiliated & offenders hiding in the dark ready to sexually attack the victims.... so, what's the point to report the issue when the school mgmt & authority don't want and half-heartedly protect & help victims...and risk attacks from the ignorant public when they don't have knowledge of the offenders.
That guy must be some rich man son! When it comes to law the rich can afford all the best lawyers in the world. Life will never be fair, it is what it is.
ST was quick to publish on its front page that the perpetrator's father is taxi driver & his mother is a housewife. Why?? Are Singaporeans prejudiced to the fairness of the system?
don't expect the school mgmt to protect & help the victim. just like suss, they only want to have a good life & want u to keep quiet about it...unisim even drastically attack the victim together with the people who committed the offence....if the school can suppressed the victims, then they will do it to u like what they did to others...
Singapore ah, very strict at catching criminal, but when sentencing : "warning only, 1 week, 3 days jail, (longest I heard) 4 months" very kind 😂😘 in my country 6 months shortest, 25 years longest or dead 😅
be careful Monica, the school mgmt people will take revenge by asking a male to become your boyfriend in the near future, have sex with you while secretly filmed you in the action....later broadcast the film to everyone to humiliate you for revenge purpose.... yes, they are that despicable enough to do that to my girl friend in the past... of course, the school mgmt will never admit that it was done by their people. but from the way they shame the girl after the incident, it is obvious that they are waiting for the time to shame her.
don't expect the school mgmt to protect & help the victim. just like suss, they only want to have a good life & want u to keep quiet about it...unisim even drastically attack the victim together with the people who committed the offence....if the school can suppressed u, then they will do it to u like what they did to me...
I don't disagree on many of the views shared on this matter. My viewpoint is for anything related to 'punishment', it should be the matter of the police. NUS is an educational institution, so don't expect them to be expert in meting out 'punishment'. I personally feel NUS should not be the party to judge, but let the police and the court judge to judge and decide punishment. So I think all these criticisms on NUS not being 'fair' in punishing the student is also unfair. We must understand the danger of going down that the path of social justice via social pressure. Let the police do their work, let the judge do their work and let NUS do their work (which is educational).
NUS have their own sentencing framework for their student. It is obvious this is separate from the criminal charges SPF/AGC/courts mete out. Has NUS been fair in its sentences for all this time if there have been time and again repeated similar offences over the years? The Judge and police did their work. Just like Mr Brown has said, why such a different treatment just cos he is a NUS student?
I do not know the kind of punishment NUS meted out to its past offenders in similar cases in the past. I guess many of us also do not know. So pls do us a favor and list down ALL the cases and the punishments they received from NUS in the past and then we can compared with this case to see if this case has a preferential treatment. Without such data, it is pointless to accuse NUS of preferential treatment because many of us would not believe it. There is no need to argue or accuse, let the data speaks for itself.
hey, Kim Huat: i salute u. this is exactly how i think n feel. whats Wrong w e police n ppl in authority. no jail time? how about cane him on his nacked backside tt he carries e wound for life, like e girl he took picture of ???
Put it to an end. No one is perfect. This gentleman whom do this video. Are you saint enough to judge? Let's give one another chance for no one is perfect.
