Honestly, my favorite lecture and sketchbook tour. Jung Gi, just like most artists and animators out there, did croquis (figure drawing) despite having a more intuitive approach to learning. Observational drawing is just a basic traditional exercise that people have done for centuries and is really helpful.

makes me wish schools in the US taught stuff like this. A majority of my classes would just hand wave observation and life drawing for more of an appreciation of the post modern. If they were taught it would be a section or two and the rest would be 'draw your feelings' kind of thing. Had no clue what croquis even meant until I found this video and searched it lol.

Beautiful work! Love seeing peoples sketchbooks. I don't know if it's a cultural thing or just personal preference against, but it would've been great to see the 'adult' art work also :)

I feel this way too sometimes, but it helps to not compare yourself to someone who has done this for years upon years. Honestly tho? This guy is a genius, one in a century kind of guys. The control he has over perspective and understanding of mechanics and anatomy on top of being incredibly good life drawing studies. His stuff is meant for inspiration and fuel for the imagination. Just don't place those same expectations on yourself. Like the other guy said, just keep drawing.
