A comparison between the SG$300+ grinder vesus SG$100+ grinder.
Does it taste 3 times better?
Lets find out.
Something to mention that i didnt include in the video is the taste of both coffee when cool down to luke warm temperature.
The taste is almost identical.
Really juicy and berries like coffee with bergamot finishing.
Commandate make filtered coffee that is slightly of better clarity. Differences is not significant.
So does it makes coffee 3x better?
My answer is a definite NO.
Is it close...i would say yes.
How close is it between the 2?
The most difference is while drinking hot.
Not much of a difference when the coffee are cooled down to luke warm temperature.
You decide what to go for.
Price vesus specs and quality.

The K6 looks interesting for me. I have a Gaggia Carrezza which is a pressurized portafilter, so does not require as fine a grind as a more expensive espresso machine. Currently I use a Hario Mini Mill on 5 clicks which gets the right timing for an espresso when it works right. However, it is a little inconsistent and you have to sometimes reset the clicks again, then the next espresso might not be perfect so you need one more click up or down. It's just not got the precision. I would tend to only use the espresso machine at home. How much improvement do you think the k6 will give me?

Great comparison 👍. Just subscribed, cheers from Peru, here it's not hard to find decent quality coffee grains at a reasonable price, but commercial grinders definitely the opposite story, if one searches there are some basic Harios around 50USD+, and a bunch of subpar JavaPress-like imitations and a lot of cheap electric grinders without burrs. Thank you!

i have the same grinders and i got kinda the same results, C40 won in everything but K6 did a great job... i can't say K6 is a bad grinder, i use k6 for espresso and c40 for pour over, i consider k6 has the better value for the money
@CaffeMartellaSingapore
@CaffeMartellaSingapore 9 месяцев назад
definitely more value for money. it really depends on whether you think spending the extra $300 on the Commandate with 5 to max 10% improvement in taste is worth it. To some even improving 1% of taste is worth it and to some, we are constraint with budget as we have other things in life.

Does the difference in taste, mud have anything to do with slightly different grind size? My understanding is that light roasts do better coarser. Great video, very extensive. I'm probably getting the K6. Price aside, I tend to not change grind sizes between roasts simply because I don't feel like adjusting the internal settings. Having this on the outside might change that
@CaffeMartellaSingapore
@CaffeMartellaSingapore 6 месяцев назад
I would recommend grinding slightly finer with lightly roasted beans. usually muddiness is when there are more fines than enough to give enough body and also the regularity of the shape of the grind will cause cleaner cup of coffee.
@SmuggiNOLA
@SmuggiNOLA 6 месяцев назад
The kingrinder gives a very quality grind, but more finer particles are being released in the crushing process. The price of the commandante gives you a much more uniform grind. Something about their burrs. Fascinating! This side by side comparison lets you see the engineering aspect of the process. I'm a good bit of time away from seriously considering the commandante, but I am going to pay a lot more attention to my post pour grinds and that "mud skim" Would you say the absence of the mud in the commandante pour is a predictor of the better attributes you were tasting?
@SmuggiNOLA
@SmuggiNOLA 6 месяцев назад
I just did a closer inspection of the grinds after pouring and the mud is quite a bit more than a "skim"! Good few millimeters before coarser grinds. It does make sense to grind finer, to get more uniformity. What does this skim mean for the outcome? Over extraction? Sour?

well in my opinion, it's a very good grinder, and in the pour over coffee comparison, its one of the best that I have ever tasted, so far for all the hand grinder that I have used, it is still one of the best. Whether it's worth it, it's really subjective.
