Toujours aussi génial je retrouve cette vidéo avec plaisir du King Arthur un peu iconoclaste mais vraiment tordante qui avait disparu des radars depuis plusieurs années. Grand merci !

Merci pour cette version, revue façon Monty Python, du king Arthur de Purcell. Quel dommage qu'un décalage entre le son et l'image gâche le plaisir dans la seconde moitié de l'enregistrement! Mais ce partage permet néanmoins une belle découverte.

This is being performed as a comedy, though I do not think it was originally a comedy. There is a pretty hilarious drinking song in the opera and that would be comedic. Baroque Opera, and music in general of that period, was in great transformation. The period is actually a short one 1600-1750. Standards were being invented, the orchestra was being invented, opera itself was being invented. All under totalitarian regimes that severally limited the ability of artists to communicate idea. Baroque musicians were expected to improvise during performances so no two were exactly alike. Librettists and composer pushed the limits of acceptability. If you went to an opera of a leading composer you should expect to be shocked. Kings allowed that as long as what was shocking did not detract from their power. In France this was taken to an extreme in the operas of Lully that were technicolor propaganda pieces specifically designed to show off the glory of the king. Purcell too had to not run afoul of his monarch. In Purcell's case he was most famous composer of his day in England and aligned with the restoration of Charles II. But 17th century England was not all that stable. Not everyone was keen on Charles II. It is sad that Purcell died so young. If he had lived another 20 years who knows? Still he left a huge library wonderful music.

QUEL MASSACRE!!! Faut-il que le niveau du public ait à ce point baissé pour qu'on soit obligé de subir cette mise en scène de caf'conç' pour soirée de bizut pour carabins en 1ère année de médecine! Le pire c'est de faire passer le technicien de plateau ou de surface pour un c... avec un comique de situation qui fait à peine sourire. La musique de Purcell est trop belle, trop féerique pour notre époque trop grossière! Hervé a niqué le Roi Arthur. Quel vandale!
