There can only be two types of Queen in the UK. Queen Regnant, which is a Queen as the monarch (Mary i, Elizabeth I, Mary II, Anne I, Victoria I and Elizabeth II. Females married to a male monarch are always Queen Consorts. BUT they are simply known as The Queen. No one ever referred to Queen Alexandra, Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother) as Queen Consort as they were married to Edward VII, George V and George VI. They are simply known as The Queen. We all know that Queen Camilla is a Queen Consort and not THE Queen, as in Queen Regnant. When our late Queen suggested that she wanted Camilla to be known as Queen Consort, she was meaning that against the previous suggestion that she would continue to be known as the Duchess of Cornwall. Which was an idea The King had put forward when Camilla was less popular within the country. Hope that clarifies things.
