'Carlos, Rey Emperador' is a Spanish TV series about the life of Charles of Habsburg, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Spain, the most powerful man in his time.
(Sorry for grammar mistakes in the translation.)
I own nothing.

The "We don't like you" vibe is strong in Castile.

not that surpricing he was the son of Philips the Fair of Bourgondy who as king by marriage to Joanne had run rather roughshot with Castilian traditions, but had the grace to die within a year. Carlos may have the son of a Spanish princess ( and queen) but he was as much a foreigner from the north as his father was.

Ellos querían más a Fernando que si había nacido allí y no a Carlos que vivia y fue criado en Flandes lo veían como un extranjero ajenos a los intereses de Castilla

His brother Ferdinand of Austria shared the same name and birthday with their grandfather Ferdinand of Aragon. Ferdinand of Austria was raised in Castile and treated like their own unlike Charles who was an alien for them

The clothings and the ornaments in this series are very terrific. Though I do not know the full story of this, it is worth to appreciate the clip video to see those things

This guy is much better looking than the real person. Carlos I of Spain and V of the Empire had his hands full with the Protestant rebellions throughout large parts of his empire. He eventually abdicated to retire to a monastery.

I can't blame him. He ruled a quarter of the world at least. Luther f*cked up his life.

@@gandalfthegrey2592 Luther never intended to start a Protestant reformation. He wanted a reform in the Church rather separate from it initially. He was a political pawn by many of the German princes who use his teaching for their own gain.

@@blugaledoh2669 well yeah, I can't really blame luther. There just happened to be a bunch of opportunist princes. Luther's quarrel wasn't with the Emperor really, it was with the catholic church and the pope's seemingly uncontested power. But I mean, if Luther never did anything Charles might have ruled with much less problems.

Spain already have some type of "charter" and "liberties" even during Charles V era?

@@Lily1127channel the same to Aragon and València, untill 1708 with the Nueva Planta decrees, which extinguished those charters to centralize power, like louis XIV reign (his grandson was the new king in that time)

So this would have been in March 1516 in Brussels when a bunch of Castilian nobles had met Charles and proclaimed him king, or later when Charles actually arrived in Castile in September 1517? If, as I infer from the cool greeting depicted, it was in Castile, where (i.e., in which city and palace) would this scene have taken place? Would this have likely been pretty much the whole of the coronation ceremony?
@Lily1127channel
@Lily1127channel 5 лет назад
It's in Castile. This is where the nobles swore allegiance to him as king, though I doubt that there was a coronation at this point, since Charles's mother, Queen Joanna, was the "Official" ruler, Charles just became her co-ruler. But of course he was the one who had the real power, she was just locked up.

How can Carlos became king when Joanna was still alive? Why they didn't made him only regent instead rather than actual monarch?
@Lily1127channel

They were "co-rulers"
@keizelharf5393
@keizelharf5393 3 года назад
@@Lily1127channel yes, but usually, co-ruler happened when a man married off to queen regnant, right? Like Fernando and Isabel's case. This is first time i know mother and son became legitimate monarch together.
@Lily1127channel
@Lily1127channel 3 года назад
There were co-rulers sometimes who were other relations than husband and wife. Sometimes there were brothers who reigned after their father together as co-rulers (e.g. Peter the Great of Russia and his brother Ivan). Or there were parent and child co-rulers. E.g. Maria Theresa of Austria ruled from her young age and her co-ruler was her husband from the start, but when he died she "needed" a new male co-ruler (because oh it would have been so impossible for a woman to rule alone....) so she named her eldest son, Joseph II, co-ruler, and they were co-rulers till her death.

@@keizelharf5393 I think that was how it was supposed to. Isabel I said in her will that when Carlos would turn 20 years old, he will be the king of Castilla.
