Here is King Cobra the Togo Stand Up Roller Coaster that operated at Kings Island, Ohio, USA, filmed off ride only by Andrew Marshall during his 1993 and 1995 visits.
Funny you mention that, back in 2010 I believe, I was about to ride Diamondback and the operator said "please do not stand, this is not King Cobra." I thought it was funny that he mentioned a little throwback years after it was taken down.
This may actually be footage of king cobra in 1995 because drop zone/Xtreme Skyflyer wasn’t added to the park till 95 and that year would be the closest to 1993 that still had xtreme skyflyer.
I wish I could go back in time for just a weekend. 1993, 17 years old...King's Island with my boys...to be one of the first of the groups at park opening to get on the White Water Canyon...damn!!!
Nice to see you've got a video of Skyrider's older sister. It's sort of a shame how King Cobra still isn't in operation. Actually it hasn't been in operation for 13 years now (1984-2001). At least Skyrider at Canada's Wonderland is still in operation and will be celebrating 30 years next year. Thanks for this video. :)
Glad you enjoyed the video John and yes, in a strange sort of way it is a shame it's no longer with us. Personally I quite enjoyed both rides but times move on ! :-(
Yes, I heard the news on August 6 and rode it the last week of August. It closed on September 1and is currently up for sale on www.italintl.com/category.php?category=Roller%20Coasters. If I had the money I'd buy it because I have the room. :-)
I think it was around '93 also the first time I ride King Cobra...I was in Middle School for sure and being younger I don't think I a tall enough honestly to ride it comfortably because I remember vividly my head bouncing back and forth/side to side in the shoulder restraints! It sucked! By the time high school came around I was 6'2 and I don't think I'd have had that problem but the King Cobra a gonzo! Ceder Point is obviously the more famous of the two but King's Island has had many firsts and record coasters...King Cobra was the first coaster built as a stand-up and not an existing coaster that was modified, The OG Bat in '81-'83 was the first inverted coaster with cars suspended below...I was born in '81 so missed out on that one, The Vortex was at one time the tallest looping coaster and with the most inversions and The Beast was the tallest, fastest, longest wooden coaster and remains the longest. King's Island is an underrated park for sure and I prefer it over Ceder Point.
Great footage man! You and CoasterBob are the best! Though I gotta say, I only got to ride this once during it's last season because I was a little B***H back in the day 😶. I totally regret being so lame about it because I know today, I'd be riding it nonstop! Oh well. That one ride was enough to have me missing it like crazy! RIP 😢
I rode this the first year it came out. After the climb going up, before the first hill to the loop, it broke down. Everybody was stranded for over 45 minutes. They ended up shutting it down, being 15, & having to get off a ride to walk the steps was more terrifying than the ride itself. KI had so many issues with this ride, tho it was fun, & I continued riding after the break down, they finally removed it. Wished they kept some of the rides that were fun, like the skylab, not sure why that was removed. & many other rides. Now the place is full of about 10 roller coasters with lines as far as the eye can see. Nothing fun about KI, really boring. No more riding the shuttle, you walk for miles before getting to the fountain. Prices are very high, they do give a dixie cup of water, for free. A slice of pizza is over 5.00 A souvenir cup is over 15.00, you better keep it close by as you have people who will steal it. They came up with Locker's you buy & place your items into. Other than that, place is a mess, & not fun. Save your money & go else where
This is a replica of the "shockwave" at KD in Va. They shut it down because some idiot stuck his head out of the armrest and broke his neck and was dead when the coaster came back. That was rider error nothing like that had EVER happened before so why shut the only standing rollercoaster in Va down just because of it. The shockwave was blue tho
***** Son of Beast was a pretty wild fast and furious ride. The main issue with it was that the cars seemed to have suspension and developed a quite unpleasant bouncing motion.
Pretty lame? What? You get some pretty fun air on the drop, and the loops are pretty intense. The slow corks have some good hangtime, too. It's far from lame.
No, ha. Nobody died on it. The original manufacturer, Togo (out of Japan), closed it's U.S. offices making it way too costly to get parts for maintenance. There have only been something like 5 or so actual fatalities in Kings Island history. And only 1 of them was on a ride I'm pretty sure. The rest are urban legend.
Please take a little laughs out of this. Only reason I gave a thumbs down. I will give a thumbs up if you will change it to some kind of piano music. Thank you for your time.
