I love how Gunn, Belew and Mastelotto are bathed in red lights playing their asses off while Fripp is sat shrouded in dark blue tearing it up on the guitar with razor sharp focus. This is King Crimson at their most savage
What.a.Solo. I have the live recording of this on Happy With What You Have To Be Happy With, but Belew's solo on this version comes close to out-Fripping Fripp while still being 110% Belew. Monumental.
I commented on another posting of this video that on hearing and watching it for the first time, at the end I had tears - what's that all about? Utterly superb delivery of something very different from awesomely talented musicians. It gets better each time I listen to it, too.
Just that first diminished chord with that incredibly reverberant feedback gave me a WHOooaaoaaoo feeling. And some of those chords around the 3-minute mark feel like scaling steep cliffs to me. Bearing The Court of the Crimson King in mind, it's fascinating to think they came from that and arrived HERE. These guys made me consider the idea of a back catalogue of albums being a journey from back in time up to now, so now I bear that in mind when I write albums myself.
Oh yea definitely you can hear all kinds of stuff on Larks Tongues in Aspic like bats and a crazy laugh machine. Used to go up to the Santa Cruz mountains with friends, smoke opiated thai and listen to great bands under the stars
Amazing performance, this track is truly a masterpiece, any people who claims to love and appreciate all kind of music should agree. Belew is more than amazing, he really plays with his guitar, how it responds; his way of using the tremolo bar is so intense and yet perfectly pitched: superb. The bass sounds a bit in the back, too bad because some lines are so much impressive and efficient. Last but not the least, Fripp performance is awesome but his distorted sound sucks, very edgy, like getting from a little crappy amp. Belew guitar sound aged so much better.
