They were so in love. Bertie truly was a FAMILY MAN. He loved his wife and 2 daughter's. I wish they could have had a longer, disease-free life. The family never got over their loss.
At that time World War 1 broke and Britain was facing threat from Hitler. Having a sense of duty towards his country and the people, his workload had been amplified. That's when he smoked a lot.
@@marjoriemargel1567 Actually it was said by King George V. Elizabeth was notoriously unpunctual, and it was said by The King when she arrived late for lunch. He allowed her a latitude never allowed his own children.
Very much like William and Katherine' s children are now. Why Elizabeth II brought up her own children so differently? I mean, Charles has complained of his mother lack of affection. Margaret had children?
@@monicavidal850 No. Elizabeth was her father's pride. Elizabeth is a female and we use her as a possessive term. That's HER father. Sorry you are incorrect.
@@monicavidal850 If you wanted to use the word "his".... try something like: Elizabeth was his pride. Margaret was his joy. You wouldn't include father.
The poor man had to be scared out of his mind! But despite his fears, he lead Britain with the strength, dignity and empathy that his country needed during such a rough time. Of all the English and British kings I've looked up on, King George VI is my favorite king. So much respect for the man.
He has much respect in India as well. I still have my grandfathers coins of that time which have H R H face on it. Though I am from India, I never hated colonialism. There are bad people even among us. English were not like Spanish or Purtugese or French, English made where ever they went their home. Not a colony.
Very funny how the king said about Bertie: It is not as if Bertie is heir to the throne 😄 Little did he knew his soon-to-be-born granddaughter Elizabeth II would become one of England's most remarkable Queens with 70 years on the throne as heiress of Bertie🙌😎👑
Going through these piece of history from the royal family is what I love. Our beloved Majesty Queen Elizabeth, you are now finally with your prince. RIP
3:35 AWWW grandpa picked her up!!! awww she’s waving! smh i keep hearing that alberts father was a cold man but he seems so cute around his grandchildren to me..
Fate was laughing at the king with him saying the “marriage of Albert to Elizabeth was to be modest as could be, seeing that he wasn’t going to be king” Laughing out loud!!! His favorite threw the crown back a the dead king and Albert became king. Ha ha ha.
Not really, George V said that his son David would ruin himself in a year when he assumes the throne. He wanted his second son to actually succeed him.
when David was partying around George V was so disappointed that he heavily favored Bertie more, he even favored him more when he got married and have children of his own... George V was a doting grandpa to Elizabeth and Margaret
@@carollo3848 l don't think you understand how our Monarchy, It doesn't matter if King George V desired another son to become king, our country has laws and he knew his eldest son would become king and Bertie only became king because his older brother abdicated and we do not have the title of crown prince or crown princess because Elizabeth was a girl, she was only heir presumptive meaning that if her father married again and had a boy, then that boy would have take Elizabeth's place

They were born grandchildren of a soverign. They got their dukedoms from their fathers. A royal duke dom only lasts 2 generations. So their children will not inherit their roysl status. They will get the minor titles that go with the dukedoms
@@samallen5213 thanks for the explanation. Can i make a little question? Since when does the royal duke doms last 2 generations? When was that stipulate? Also I'm understanding that "dom" comes from "dominions", am I right?
@@mrpurple11 A Royal Dukedom is only classed as royal for 2 generations then becomes a normal Dukedom so the next dukes of Kent and Gloucester will not hold the style of Royal Highness but will known as His Grace. This has been the case since at least 1917 but I believe it may have not been the case in earlier centuries it's just that it's been very rare for a title starting out as a royal Dukedom to go beyond 2 generations. The words dukedom earldom and dominion are related
🎂🐃♉I hope that HM, Queen Elizabeth II had a Happy 95th Birthday. I know that it must've been hard this year especially since Prince Philip has died. I have the utmost respect for her father & mother King George VI & his Queen Consort Elizabeth. What they did to save the monarchy & how they helped rally England to victory in WW II is just amazing. I personally feel that King Edward VIII would've been disastrous for Europe. King George VI was the right man for the job.
Победить Англии во Второй Мировой Войне помог СССР. Вернее Англия немного помогла в этом Советскому Союзу. Без разницы какой король был тогда в Англии.
All of these people fell in love once and never loved anyone else. Queen Victoria, King Edward VII, King George, Queen ElizabethVI, Princess Margarette. How did they even entertain the idea that Charles would just give up on Camilla? Poor Diana.......
strange seeing the queen as a baby ... I was thinking that baby will be the Queen one day and never new nothing about it ... Would live a Royal life and rule
Interesting that both Albert and David doggedly pursued one woman, after their share of carousing; Albert on Elizabeth and David on Wallis - both refusing to take 'no' for an answer.
However, he - Bertie who became King George VI - was going to remain a bachelor if Elizabeth refused him the third time he asked her. So, it worked out better for him that she said yes as he ended up having a happier life with a wife and 2 daughters than he would have had as a bachelor.
Personaggi e sequenze quasi irreali, non di questo mondo. Sembra tutto così tanto lontano da noi, i sorrisi, l'amore con cui ci si rapporta è tutto così straordinariamente speciale, sembra il paradiso in terra!
George V sounds like a first-class jerk. I understand that's how he was brought up but it is such a shame that he couldn't have strived to be a loving father despite his childhood. Albert certainly broke the cycle. It takes absolutely nothing to be kind, ESPECIALLY to your own children.
Albert was way more handsome than Edward. And I've heard Elizabeth was actually enamored with his elder brother Edward. A good thing. Because, God knows, Edward would've been a terrible husband to her with his philanderings and womanizing🤷🤷🤷
nileyfan1998 The made for TV movie Bertie and Elizabeth has the best portrayal of King George VI I have seen on any show that wasn't a documentary. In real life , he was slender and athletic unlike the horrible portrayal in that first episode of The Crown ( which I won't watch any more of due to that). Colin Firth did a decent job as King George VI in The King's Speech ( except that he never yelled at or insulted his therapist - certainly not on the basis of being Australian as Prince Albert before he became King George VI had a very good visit to Australia in 1927 I think). However, King George VI had blue eyes, not brown, and Colin Firth is not anywhere near as slender as King George VI was.
nileyfan1998 I believe they should make a movie where they show the youth and courtship of Bertie and Elizabeth in a more detailed way than even Bertie and Elizabeth including showing how he loved visiting her family as her family environment was warmer than his and also showing things like her putting out a fire at her parent's house when she was young and they were away ( with help from others at the house), her parents' house being a convalescent home for soldiers , and showing Prince Albert's actual service at the Battle of Jutland in WWI on the HMS Collingwood and relationships with his brothers ( other than just David who became King Edward VIII) and see him setting up and participating in the boys camps he organized. It would be wonderful to see more about the childhood of both him and Elizabeth Bowes Lyon in a movie, I think.
Elizabeth was not the first royal baby born in a long time. Princess Mary and her husband had two sons before Princess Elizabeth was born. Some of the comments are calling Bertie Prince George but that was not his name ever. He was Prince Albert and it was only after the abdication that he became George VI. There was a Prince George but he was a brother to Prince Albert.
Rae M. Actually, the children of Princess Mary, Princess Royal were not royal and therefore not princes as in the UK, the title princess/princess are only passed through the male line.
Luke Peterson Same thing. Prince/Princess titles are only passed through the male line of a reigning monarch, which is why Princess Anne’s children have no royal title. If Princess Anne married a prince from another country, her children would be Prince and Princess.
Elizabeth Bowes Lyon was desperate to marry the Prince of Wales and become queen. An announcement of their engagement appeared in the Scottish press. Realising that he would never marry her she chose the second in line and was instrumental in his abdication. A very determined woman.
Bello, un bellissimo video. Rincresce e sconcerta solo apprendere che anche a quel tempo esisteva "il mostro bullismo" e che l'abbiano dovuto subire persino i Reali d'Inghilterra. È una cosa inaudita e inaccettabile.
How blessed we are to have this type and detailed historical perspective.......... Now run off and find me something from your own families equivalent akin to this................................................ A struggle isn't it???
Love the miltary outfits with all the medals. Let's see: potty training, learning the alphabet, leaving the sheep alone most of the time, not shooting the help, not wandering into the street unattended, etc.
That last bit was awkward. Do you really expect Edward actually wanted to be on the frontlines? No. Do you really think the man that spent his entire life hating his family for his own choices would actually care how many british died in the trenches? One member did however, the King you always deserved. Served in the navy as a Mr. Johnson, without complaint. In fact he took pride in his service, because unlike some, Bertie loved his people and loved his family.
So when she lost part of her body and soul, her husband, she followed him to the grave within a year. As she quote once,"Grief is the price we pay for love".
Love match marriage is actually a fairly new norm. A large number of marriages were founded on mutual needs. Many of those marriages grew into deep love over time.
Victoria & Albert, Edward & Alexandra, George & Mary, George & Elizabeth, Elizabeth & Philip, to be followed by.....Charles & Camilla. OMG....how the mighty have fallen!
Gosh the queen mother was a very fashionable lady. I love her clothes. The then prince Albert was a very upright handsome man. And very distinguished looking.
The royals were always mannerly and had good social abilities and were proper because they never had to worry about finances or shelter or where their next meal was coming from. Easy entitled life.
Now this management of regal affairs is an outstanding example of proto genesis for any public relations. For the latter being one of a core marketing functions it's provenance is much older and traditional than the rest of marketing.
Nt all rich aristocrat and nobelty girl dreamed to marry prince to become queen. Diana nvr expect that too. She was pressured by her mother and probably brainwashed by her grandmother lady fermoy to marry prince charles. Diana try to cancel the wedding but truly it was fated that she had to endure pain. Living with the unloved, heartless, selfish and cruel husband. The one that end her life. He pawned Diana's life and happiness just to be his comfort woman Camella. So sad and injustice which had never being repayed.😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🤗😭😭😭
