Yeah, they are seriously solidifying themselves in the "all time legend" bands status with each live show. To kill a piece of music so perfectly at Red Rocks of all places...just wow.
@@businessofrhythm2315 ok? In music its never about "who did what first" because it all doesn't matter and will be sampled and recycled and used by another band. It's just music man
This might be the best version of The River they've done to date. Check out Crumbling Castle next if you like all the middle eastern melodies that Stu was quoting.
Discovering KG all those years ago was one of the best things that could happen to me. Their music, vibe, the community. Everything. It's such a great thing to be a part of. Love yall ✌️❤️
This is probably the hundredth time I have listened to this. The way Stu just gently leads them down into this pit of hell without at all seeming out of place or forced into the middle of the song. Absolutely incredible performance. These guys are the best band in the world.
I egodeathed on my friend’s shoulder during the crazy part around 8:00 then I turned to him during that final jam and said “I didn’t think it could get any better”
Epic! Gotta be one of the best live videos of this song, taking into account the quality of the video, the audio and the intensity of the performance itself!
It's audioboard, so basically the direct signal the band was outputting. You can find the full audios on YT too if you just type in Red Rocks Set 1 or set 2
@@slandersir7255 Idk dude, The River does sounds like it's taking inspiration from King Solomon's Marble lol. Also, I'm not too sure what are you suggesting in the 2nd half there. King Solomon is an odd time piece and our Gizzboys' got numerous tunes in odd time signatures, you know? And consider that Cavs started out with the band knowing nothing how to play double bass metal drum set, just to literally flex his drumming skills in a thrash album full of songs at breakneck speed and puzzling odd times rhythm later on. Literally, in less than a decade (and that's not to say they've released like two prog albums written entirely in odd time sigs earlier on).
@@slandersir7255 Ah okay, that makes better sense to me now. I wasn't sure who you're referring to earlier on, I had to make sure. Sorry if I sounded passive aggressive to you before🙏
Their sound is just so eclectic and experimental, every album feels like a whole new journey. They never fail to surprise and captivate me. If you're a fan of this music, you have to check out The Doublejumps - they have the same kind of adventurous spirit and genre-bending approach that will blow your mind 🔥🐊🎶
The RU-vid algorithm shared the album Quarters! with me back in 2015 so this is the first song by them I ever heard and I absolutely loved them from the very first time I heard them. Got to see them in 2018. They’ve gotten to huge since then. Hope to see them at Boston Calling with Queens of the Stone Age.

Out of all the 100's of shows and this being the 11th and 12th time seeing them I've seen them, this one was the greatest night of live music in my life. Had these tickets since Nov 2019 and it was worth the wait.
i think it's mainly cuz the 21st century is so wide open - information, music, whatever is so readily available. they just couldn't have happened in, say, the 60s or 70s.. plus, i reckon they rehearse a shedload.
what is this footage?? where's the rest of the show? is there an official release? is this high quality crowd shot? I mean it's great but what's going on here??
Also, this is the Red Rocks camera crew straight feed. This was then being manipulated in and out of Jason's visuals on the Red Rocks screens. It was magnificent to behold live in person.

Going out to Colorado for the first time in my life, in June. They'll be out at the Rocks playing and I'm not going to miss it for the world. Thank you for the upload dude. This gives me the chills. Can't wait!!!

@@Throwawayjim119 The Grateful Dead were a uniquely incompetent live band. They were incredibly loose at the best of times. Musicians who sat in with them have said that they paid no attention to one another.

Pretty neat comming back to this after petro. Theres a witchcraft tease in here, or perhaps the riff was just living in stus head prior before petro was dreamed up. Who knows?!
The River isn't my favorite Gizz song. I think that's Head On/Pill. But I do think The River is the most Gizz song and this is the best version of it ever recorded.

This is The River from the album Quarters. This is an extended and at parts heavier version of that song. If you want more jams with this sound, check out Ice, Death (and whatever the rest of that album name is) or Laminated Denim.
I’m In Your Mind Fuzz and Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs Mushrooms & Lava would be great starters on top of Quarters which is the album this song features on. I would personally also possibly suggest Sketches of Brunswick East, as the 5/4 of this song makes it feel a bit jazzy and Sketches definitely feels jazzy at times.
