King Kong 2 (Famicom) James & Mike Mondays

Well Mike, you probably don't know this but famicom disk games were rewritable. Essentially there were kiosks inside of convince stores where you would give the machine money and your Famicom disk and it would let you rewrite the disk as another game. In fact, that's how all the Castlevania games were originally released. It was pretty cheap too, the disks were only about $3 and to rewrite it as another game it would only cost anywhere around $3-25.

The Framemeister is pretty kick-ass. Do you have the latest firmware update? It adds a delay you can set so it doesn't freak out as much if the game switches resolutions and some other shit. Adjusting the various menus to get the best picture can be cryptic but I've had good luck with mine so far.

Neat to see those authentic Famicom systems, the Japanese had some interesting items for their games.

There's LOTS of amazing famicom exclusives. Two games that I would totally have expected to make their way out of japan was "Choujin Sentai Jetman" and "Kyouryuu Sentai Zyuranger" which could both be localized as Power Rangers games, especially Zyuranger considering that's where most footage for the show is from :)

Kong Skull Island scared the living daylights out of me. The pterodactyls snatching that man off the boat is one of the most blood-curdling movie deaths I've ever seen.

Worst thing is: Sean Connery chose League... over the role of Gandalf. I bet that played a part in his retirement, too.

I think that these episodes are more cozier in James' room. Might be just my opinion.

Sean Connery Turned down Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings for League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I think he quit acting because he figured he was going senile.

We got a lot of bootleg NES cartridges when I was growing up. Every electronics outlet had lots of those in the bargain bin. On the front, there was usually a picture of an anthropomorphic fox in medieval clothes, and on the back there was the sticker that showed you what game it was. These were actual games, just unlicensed ports of the Japanese versions. TMNT II had this weird sticker of sunglass wearing turtles and it was called "Turtle Ninja II". I still wonder where this trend initiated, but I played a lot of these games in my childhood. They were a lot cheaper than new NES games.

This guys have the best fans!!! that is the thing with retro gamers since our youth we traded games, played with our friends or with strangers in the arcades and we all had great times and sense of camaraderie, love what that dude did with the famicom that is BAD ASS.

By the way, Mike, those Neo-Geo 6ft extension cables you bought from me can also be used to extend the Famicom controllers. Might come in handy.

I liked the movie The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and really liked Sean Connery's character.

I love the art on that cartridge. I think it's cool that you capture straight from the consoles. I've been trying to capture retro games by using an Elgato HD 60 with my Wii U.

I think that the "on the go" case is more so you could take blank discs to your local convenience store where you could buy new games and write them directly to your blank disc. Keep in mind that it wasn't JUST a normal floppy, you could buy blank Famicom Disc System discs for that purpose.

James/Mike- ya'll want one of the hardest/most obscure/best games there is on NES you've probably never heard of? I stumbled on this one as a kid and I HATED it because it's just cuz its such a good game but you can't fucking WIN! . But the music is top notch, the gameplay is solid and also somewhat unique, so it doesn't get stale, and the frustration/happiness levels you get are pretty balanced if you're a true hard core gamer. The game is called 'Conquest of the Crystal Palace'. I know you guys probably get a lot of requests, but this isn't a request. After seeing this J&MM I remembered how cool it was to find titles that were good and also different, so this is more of a tip. Try that game one day. From Me to You guys. Thanks for everything :)

Speaking of Zelda. I still wonder the Konami LaserScope (helmet) would work on the NES version of Zelda the same way as the "speaker control" does on the Famicom. By speaking in to the helmets microphone, you should (theoretically) be able to kill thees bats/keeys(?)

That whole Yellow Famicom business: I've actually never seen a Famicom in person that didn't have that yellow hue to it. I used to think mine was like that because the original owner smoked a lot... but actually, a lot of plastics manufacturers add bromine to their products. Which, when the plastic is exposed to heat and sunlight, causes a chemical reaction that turns them yellow. A lot of Super Nintendos you see have the same yellowing. A good fix to this is to remove all of the plastic shelling and clean it with hair bleach.

Seeing you guys tackle all these Famicom games has made me realize, I'd really like to see a J&MM episode about that Back to the Future II game on the Super Famicom. It was covered very briefly in the AVGN episode and I've always been curious to know more about it.

Here's how I play Famicom -- You need an RCA Male to Female extension cable for the RF switch and two indoor extension cords (One for the Famicom's AC Adapter (The Genesis Model 1 PSU works best) and the other for the FDS (I used Casio AD-510, so look for that one)).

For some reason that limitation of the Rock, and needing to go to the Menu Screen, that just reminded me of the joy of video games. Back in the day, the simplest things in video games were a pleasure.
