More than a century ago, shortly after the beginning of world war 1 in 1914, the German colonial power in Cameroon hanged the King of the Douala, Rudolf Manga Bell. His only crime? Fighting to protect the land of his people. Here is how it all went down.

This should have been longer. Would love to learn more about this story and how all the different ethnic groups worked together for their sovereignty.

His story is the first part of the independence movt. Cameroon has a very long history of colonial rule. After the germans' defeat- which the prince spearheaded for he officially got the allied forces to invade the cameroons and dislodge the germans with cooperation from the natives, france took over 80% of the territory and installed a savage colonial rule that lasted some 40+ yrs. It ended in a war that left close to half a million civilians death over a period of 20yrs right into the 1970s.

That’s my great grandfather we all inherit. Name Kingue know which means King in our native Bantu Douala languages
