drove a bug for 7 years, cross country 5 times too. with tire chains on the back, and smooth under belly, the bug could churn or toboggan through snow and drifts that stopped most vehicles of the day. and it was light!
They are definitely capable little machines huh!!! I’m guessing you drive a BMW now 😁 haha…man those times in the snow ❄️ make for great memories and stories! What motor did your beetle have? Was she built?
Nice , the VW has been a great Off-road vehicle forever. Had one for many years in Colorado it was the cheep alternative to a Jeep when you had no money . Thanks for sharing
Dang it man!!! I know the feeling bud! I recently was able to get my old Canam back thanks to my wife!!! Went 4 years with out her in my life and hated every minute of it haha.
This brings back some memories lol. My parents bought their first Bug when my dad was stationed on the San Diego Naval Base where I was born. When my dad was discharged, they drove that Bug all the way to Ohio with 2 very young kids. Lmao. Those were not made for Ohio winters. I remember riding in that thing until I was 4 or 5 freezing my not yet exposed balls off. HAH memories.... Thanks for posting these great WARM weather classics!
That’s an awesome story!!! We grew up off-roading these with my buddy that has the bronco when we were 16 haha here in San Diego! Glad this could bring back a memory for you! So cool!
Yeah I couldn’t believe what they were capable of! I mean trucks had rough times going up that hill, some breaking drivetrains hence the bottle neck! So much fun
@@DukesofoffroadHazzard They Started last year in MORE. working out some kinks keeping things not broke!! haha. Looking foward to see some good Times ahead!!
@@DukesofoffroadHazzard Watching that reminds me of Hare Scrambles in the trees when the path is blocked. Chaos to the max. I had to ride over the Pastors bike once.
What’s happening Eric…Happy Monday brother 💪 man I greatly appreciate you for taking the time to comment like and subscribe…it’s what keeps me grinding at this stuff!!! So thank you!!! Cheers 🍻 bud
This is the one place I would have never anticipated seeing class 11 race at. I don't ever remember seeing a Volkswagen Bug out there any of the other times I've been to Hammers/Johnston Valley!!! I'm surprised no one who owned 1 of those bugs didn't pre-run the course with a bug....that part of the course would have been changed or bypassed once the organizers got adequate notice that it wasn't passable with a class 11 car.
That’s what they were wanting an absolute challenge, multiple VWs got up it no problem…the problem started when a 1400 truck lost its drivetrain on that steep hill on the main part of the road and was dead in the water…vws were able to pass so gnarly on the hill and get by but the ones who couldn’t see in the dust is when it caused chaos!
@@skeetermcswagger0U812 I guess I should have said what happened in the video haha 😆 it’s all good bud! Trucks were racing while the bugs were to…the joke was that the bugs could catch up to the trucks…but nobody actually thought it would happen and it absolutely did haha
Paul you are not wrong haha! It’s a full on bloodbath in those cars the entire race! 2 inches of travel vs 2 feet makes a huge difference on the kidneys 🤣
