I think people are misreading this as Hank is scared of John Redcorn. He isn't. This is more to show that John Redcorn isn't afraid of Hank. We see throughout the series that Hank will take on bigger guys if it's the right thing, hell he takes on that former Cowboys Tackle who is 6'7" and a pro athlete because it's the right thing to do. To me this shows a more mutual respect that Hank and John have. John says right there that he isn't scared of Hank, and Hanks shows that even if Redcorn is bigger and younger Hank will still *try* to kick his ass.

There's some story board sort of 'blueprints' of KoTH out there on google telling the animators things to keep in mind while drawing the characters. There's one of Hank that has a note that says something like "Could kick John Redcorn's ass if he was really angry."

@James McGee In my opinion, I think that John Redcorn NOT being afraid of Hank is indeed the point of the scene. He's not going to leave Peggy alone out of fear of Hank, but out of respect. The two tend to be friends throughout the series, and Hank often goes to Redcorn for advice.

There was a propane mishap a few years ago in Tacoma. A faulty fitting on the tank at the foundry resulted in an explosion that killed the delivery guy and caused massive damage. I heard the explosion from two miles away and it felt like short mini quake. The lights flickered all the way to Lakewood. Respect propane like it not doing it could make it your last day on earth.

He isn't actually being awkward: Redcorn smiles a bit, Hank nods, the wind blows, John fixes his hair, Hank untenses. Hank reiterates the point to prove he's serious, then politely and calmly leaves. This isn't 'awkward.' John respects the threat and Hank's morals, Hank is acknowledging the respect shown, moment of silence, then polite departure with the mutual understanding this isn't an idle threat.

Hard to tell if John Redcorn actually respects Dale or not. I think maybe he didn't at first, probably barely even knew him, but obviously they have to get to know each other with John Redcorn hanging around his house every other day. I imagine John probably did eventually think of Dale as a friend, he apologizes profusely when he thinks he's ever caught, but at that point he's much to invested in his relationship with Nancy to call it off for Dale.

I wonder, why does Redcorn smile at Hank after being threatened? Some say it was that he didn't take it seriously, or did he find it amusing that Hank actually thought Redcorn would try to sleep with Peggy when he doesn't find Peggy attractive? Or perhaps he admires how much Hank cares about Peggy?

I think John's just not afraid of Hank. He's taller, stronger, and younger (I think). Plus, Hank's at a disadvantage if you take his glasses off. That's not to say Hank wouldn't win though.

@@Bacxaber idk man hank took a punch from a nfl lineman who was like 6’7 280 plus pounds plus we know that he boxed. Proving he has a chin and at least knows how to throw a punch. john redcorn showed how unathletic he was in the kick ball games where he can’t even kick a ball rolling are him slowly and can’t catch one when thrown at him and got pelted in the face. Just because he’s buff doesn’t mean he knows how to fight or can take a punch, just look at bob sapp, brock lesnar, paulo costa.

additionally, hank has both learned boxing and played football all his life, so he probably knows a thing or two about fighting.
