its an Oshkosh HET made for the British Army. The trailer is an interim trailer made by King;normally used for moving Engineer plant and smaller armoured vehicles. They were testing at Long Valley/Rushmoor arena near Aldershot. The AFV on the back is a Warrior APC. I believe the trailer that was supplied for the Challenger is a lot bigger and has seven axles.Don't know if they are powered or not but I think they have some kind of diff lock on each wheel station and are designed to operate on terrain like this if necessary?
I ran some of those 38 years ago, and a couple of them with 120 ton wrecker bodies. The wrecker would literally pull a D8 Cat dozer in half. I know first hand because I did it! Thode are some of the most awesome tonka toys on the planet!!!
I've dragged spread axle dump valved skates, and four bolsters over big roads and mat roads both... But the articulation on that trailer carrying that old A.P.C., y'all!? 🤯 🤩
when I was in Basic at Fort Knox 10 years ago these trucks were moving M1 Abrams Tanks all over the Fucking place when armor school was still at Knox. these trucks have 500 hp 8v92 DDEC III Detroit Diesel engines and 15 speed automatic transmission and 8 wheel drive. It's called the HETT (HEAVY EQUIPMENT TRANSPORT TRUCK).
None of the HET's have 15 speed transmissions...They all came with CLT-754's which were 5 speed. On top of that, the newer M1070A1's have 4800SP's that are 7 speed.
That would make a sick truck trailer combo for an overland vehicle. With all yhat space and suspension articulation and travel you could live literally anywhere! I want one do bad
@@shakespeare_hall4788 most of these vehicles are LHD why i don't know why most of our vehicles that are in service are RHD here in the UK and why is it that right hand drive its because the time of knights or sword fighters were still in the norm, right-handed swordsmen would prefer to keep to the “left side So they can easily use their right hand to wield their sword to an approaching opponent To avoid bumping into another’s scabbard, which is the thin cover of the sword that’s attached to a belt and placed on the left part the body To easily mount from the left side, and dismount from the right side of the horse Napoleon started to enforce left-hand when he conquered European countries like Germany, Switzerland, Poland, and many others. Of course, his staunch opponents like Us Great Britain did not !!
@@abuubaydullah1 correct! The sword is also the Reason all spiral stair cases were a clock wise twist making it extremely difficult for an invading enemy to use their Swords ascending the stairs.!
@@shakespeare_hall4788 More like all the countries stuck in the past are RHD, when you have the countries that invented and revolutionized the automobile using the LHD layout along with 75% of the rest of the world that should clue you in…. Sticking with RHD is just plain moronic!
E3guyy Would be interested in how it would perform in really off the road terrain such as Northern Canada in melting permafrost, in the steppes of Central Asia or even such a place as the swamps in Louisiana or Florida.
You have to remember that this thing is for pulling heavy trailers, not for maximum possible truck mobility. There are limits to where a rig such as this can be designed to go. But people love to compare apples and oranges.
Bearing in mind the Trailer is carrying probably less than half the weight of a fully loaded Battle Tank it is managing OK, but what if this was a Battle Tank, presumably with all its Armour, would the suspension and or the whole trailer have to be redesigned? A family member used to be part of the Design Team a few years ago and he occasionally would drive a prime mover home, and it is only when on normal roads the size of these things becomes obvious, something like a normal truck on Steroids. And I use the word "Truck" in the English UK nomenclature, not the USA one that means something like a small open back van.
mrbluenunThey can transport fully equiped and fueled Abrams, however, they won't drive in this kind of roads or in this kind of condition. They will only open a exeption if the tank was beyond local repair and it need to go back to the main camp for repair. It would drive a lot more slower, it would use a ton of fuel and would increase the maitance of the truck drasticly.
I'm an all wheel mechanic for the US Army and when this truck (the HET) is hauling an M1 Abrams(70-75tons)it uses a different trailer than this one with a lot more axles
justin Jennings Hi, And many thanks for your welcome comment. I would be most obliged if you could send a link to this Abrams fully geared up Tank getting towed?
Amazing vehicle! What king of suspensions does it have on the real wheels? (Live axles, half axles, ecc). Ps. A Tatra truck (like t813 or t817) will do better.
Rene arteaga vilchiz For off-road highway platform little good. And so interesting truck. This truck is great on solid ground. When MAZ - 537 will have the advantage on the road and less solid ground.
Андрей Голубев one thing is for sure, the only contender are them, 1070 has independent suspencion, maz has great tires, ok, dificult pronnunce a winner and obviuos 1070 has the advantage of be build in a newer techonology, I still thinking they are even, obvious maz is better in oof roads since russia is plenty of hugly roads with big mud and no concrete or pav, dificult pronunce a winner
Rene arteaga vilchiz The fact that he has a large hanging wheels is not a novelty, this is a mandatory attribute of off-roading equipment. And the new platform is not an indicator. There is a large mass of the truck handled the delivery of heavy loads without filing such a heap of money in fact in the modernization of the existing truck. But to use Your truck in certain regions with good soil.
That's a M1070A1 HET actually, you can tell by the front and the hood. The M1070 HET is the one that has a sharp hood and is not round like this one, having the 8V-92 Detroit. The M1070A1 HET has a round hood and different head lights too and has a C-18 Caterpillar.Oshkosh debuted the A1 in 2009,it's been over a decade that the Army has used them already. Both trucks use different transmissions as well, the M1070 has a CLT-754 and the M1070A1 has the 4800SP.
@@carsieplg Well, either way,it's the exact same truck.Look at them in comparison, they have the same front end.I don't care about the tank or the trailer,I was not speaking about that. Here in America, our M1070's and M1070A1's have always pulled M1000 low boy trailers.
@@Slim_Slid Its not the British use a different cab different bonnet yes nose looks similar thats it different bumper no towing hooks either different gearbox due to different laws around trucks/lorries on the road in the uk you stated it was an M1070A1 when is not it is an M1070F if they are the same why was the F model made in 2001 when the A1 was 2009
@@carsieplg M1070 came out in 1985 if I remember right, all of them had a 500 HP 8V-92 TT.This was all until 2009,and then the M1070A1 comes with the 700 HP C-18. But apparently you seem to the expert about a M1070F,so I guess you could spew it out for me.I know that they have M1070 HET's in Britain.
VancouverCanucksRock Sure it could have. The reason they transport the tanks is for fuel efficiency, to save wear and tear on the tracks, engine, ect. It's also faster than the tank driving itself.
Max McTabish It could have arrived at the Battlefield with full tank of fuel had it driven there? That is what I was meaning, and also that it prob would've thrown a track by the time it got there, also
VancouverCanucksRock Don't forget that those trucks are not only to take good tanks into battle, they are also made to take out broken vehicles back to the camp to recive repair.
No, it could not have. first, it was not a tank, it was an Armored Personnel Carrier, it appeared to be a M113. The HET(Heavy Equipment Transport) is capable of highway speeds of at least 60 MPH. The APC is not. Other comments referenced wear and tear on the tracked vehicle. These comments are also quite valid. Let's add that the APC probably has a crew of 3, and o be driven under self power, those soldiers are doing jobs that the trucker with the empty APC cannot do.
Track pins only have so many miles..before they need replacement and the stresses on the undercarriage tend to break stuff anyways so when not being used for active duty it’s best to float it.
Growing up I always wanted to see a rapper pull up in on of these trucks on the block in a music video, to me, that would be stunting. Lmao. Excuse my thought.
+Aarons Automotive yeah but this isn't no normal 18 wheeler, this is a truck that has 4 axle drive, so that's 2 wheels pulling on the front axle, and then 4 tires on each 3 additional axles, compared to just 8 tires pulling on a normal tractor, which is a big difference!
That rigs is so bad ass I love how it drag that tank behind it like it was nothing the military out in the UK are running Cummins MOTOR in that thing??
looks capable... but 240p "and" 4:3 in 2011 ????... you may build a good trailer but you sure didn't invest in even a cheap HD video camera. disappointing considering the effort you put in the do the trial.
That seems to be a private video on phone not official its because its Russia never want to be happy to share all those things to other countries , Russia have many more amazing thinks build for military
An M984 HEMTT wrecker will tow a M1070 HET with an M1000 that has a M1A2 or M88A2 on it all at once. Or you could do entirely the same thing just with the M88A2 ARV.
Odd seeing a wheeled vehicle hauling a tracked vehicle over terrain that one would think a tracked vehicle would haul a wheeled vehicle over :D My understanding is that this truck is used mainly for transporting tracked vehicles over paved roads for long distances to avoid putting wear and tear on the tracked vehicles themselves and also thus allowing them to be moved more quickly.
They are also used to recover damaged or broken down vehicles from the field and return them to repair depots. Check out the M26 from WWII, another awesome tank transporter and recovery vehicle.
The M1070's were the replacements for the M911's that were also primarily tank haulers. These trucks were purposely manufactured to haul both armored tanks and tank retrievers. It doesn't matter what surface of the terrain is,the HET's are meant to drive through it.That's why the M1070's have 53 inch (1600×20) tires and CTIS (Command Tire Inflation System). This is also why their M1000 trailers have steering arms and any of the axles can turn.If any of these trucks get stuck...The only two vehicles that will drag them out is the M984 HEMTT wreckers or M88A2 ARV tank retrievers.
MrMarkpark I think it could do it but it will need a reinforced trailer and the truck will drive mutch more slower. In that case, in this type of terrain, driving the tank itself would be better at money/effiency. The only reason for them to haul a Abrams in those condition would be if the tank was damage beyond local repair, witch mean the tank would need to go back to the base camp for repair, or in worst case scenario, get shipped back to the US.
The H.E.T. hauls the m1 Abrams on the m1000 trailer it has 40 boggie wheels and all axles are steering axles ran off hydraulic wedge that is actuated off the throat on the 5th wheel.
