I knew Bruce and Dan were good friends but It's cool to hear Dan say that Bruce was his "BEST friend at that time period". Epic partnership! Great video! Thanks for sharing!
They were best friends How lucky for Dan , to be taught and respected by Bruce. Dans the man who continues the Legacy of Bruce and JKD. I don’t think anyone knew Bruce as well as Dan. Dan used to speak about Bruce and their situations at times during classes. Fascinating!
Bruce Lee obviously left way too early. Credit goes to Mr. Inosanto for doing a great deal of the heavy lifting in popularizing Jeet Kune Do. Both are very admirable masters.
If Grand Master Inosanto gives the credit to Master Lee enough is said... But there could never truly be one without the other, this is the system and the way.
@@leshonclausell7806 Well put! I think they feed off each other but No disrespect Dan Inosanto is an amazingly talented martial artist but a man. Bruce is a Legend! Thank God we still have Dan his utube info is inspiring as he teaches. The way he explains the time spent with Bruce and how Bruce Lee used to think and how they used to work together it brings Bruce closer ☯️
@6:01 If you look closely, Guro Dan is having a light spar without even looking straight to his sparring partner. As if, he already knows where the attacker's hands are heading to.
that is a technique u need to do over and over again, no extra attacks and he already know the moves so yeah, he does not need to look since his partner isnt adding some extra attack. they r just doing it on a loop to practice it.
yep Guro Dan is a great teacher , very informative on all aspects of the fighting arts . It was a priviledge and honour to train with him in the 1980's and with the Late Larry Hartsell on the JKD grappling . I was a judoka then of 17 years experience and Hartsell just threw it out the window by showing me the confines of my art ..and how to expand upon and take advantage of other grappling arts !... really years ahead of the field and time ; the concepts of Lee and Inosanto have projected the arts decades forward towards the reality of combat !.
I had the privilege and honor of meeting Dan in the yearly 1980's at West Coast Taekwondo in Milpitas CA. Dan liked my quick boxing and kicking skills and he was happy to show me eskrima and nunchaku sticks. It was fantastic to talk and train with Dan about his teaching Bruce Lee the same techniques. What Dan taught me in just a few days showed me a totally different side of Martial Arts. Thank you Master!!!
Dan worked at Malaga Cove School in Palos Verdes back in the 1960s. He was my physical education teacher and a real positive influence in my young life. I will always remember what a great athlete he was -- one of the fastest people I'd ever seen over 50 yards. We used to say -- "he holds the world record, you know." Great man.
As alot of us have commented, I too, had the privilege to train many times with Guro Inosanto, the late Guro Hartsell, Arjon Chi Sarisute, the late Herman Sawanda and a host of other influential martial artist greats over the years. They were for me, informative and inspirational through my own personal martial path within the FMA. God bless them all.
I knew that Bruce Lee learned to use the sticks from Dan Inosanto, but until now I just thought he learned it for the movies, I had no idea that they actually sparred a lot using them. Also it was funny to hear Dan say Bruce Lee did not want to learn the basics and just said here try to hit me with it. lol That's one way of learning.
I would even be so bold and say that Dan and Bruce were co-creators of Jeet Kun Do. Bruce took his foundation of Wing Chun and tested it against Dan's Filipino arts, discussing and making improvements along the way. They taught each other.
@Mark I would like to say that we can learn the basics of jun fan gung fu. But jkd is our knowledge on martial arts that we have studied and researched for years
As stated in the vid, I'm of the Filipino-American persuasion. I've never understood (and my family always does the shoulder-shrug when asked) why some Filipinos (I don't hear this with old-school Ilocanos) pronounce the English and/or Spanish letter "c" in the Italian manner (not in the Spanish manner), as English "ch" ( @ 0:26 Ignacio = "Ignacho" ) or English "sh" (Hacienda = "ashienda"). Secondly, too many people mention Stockton as if it's the only place in the SJ Valley where Filipinos lived; There were many thousands of Filipinos all along the Central Valley and coastal ag-towns. Remember: The UFW's table grape strike was basically started by Larry Itliong in Delano -Hours away from Stockton.
I have trained with guru dan three times in Australia because of him I got into fma under guru David foggie and the great Roland Dante’s thanks guru dan
Nobody did more for martial arts than Bruce Lee. Without Bruce the bar wouldn't have been set so high for others to shoot for. He was good for promotion of the Chinese people and brought Chinese cinema mainstream. He motivated many people to learn the art and some of those people are still training students today. He appeared to be an all round good man and gone too soon. RIP
#Mad Penguin... when BRUCE came to US he only know wing chun but DAN already in a higher eduaction of several martial arts like judo, jiu jitsu, okinawan karate and kenpo where he holds a shodan degree. he taught bruce how to use NUNCHAKU, arnis and other weapons.
@@jquest43Yes, Kali Academy that was in Torrance California Richard Bustillo most everyday. Dan too at times. I could never thank Richard and Dan enough for what I learned.
@@jquest43 it’s been a while and to my best recollection my scheduled classes were on Tuesday and Thursday nights but not limited to only two days per week . . Do you remember a black brother who was about 5’5 but amazing physique, .I believe he could bench press 400 lbs I forget his name it’s been so long but he was a good friend!. My classes were a bitch. Richard was thought on us. I can truly say that what I learned there save my life more than once and prevented a lot of bad things from happening. Can never thank them enough! Full contact is the way No pain no gain ☯️
I was honored to attend many Dan Inosanto seminars throughout the 80's, all across the East coast from Chicago to Florida. I also attended the first Silat seminar in VA, (when Dan brought in Pendekar Paul Detours and his bother Victor). Pendekar Paul also was a humble gentleman, and I call it an honor to say the least to have met and trained with them both. They are the sum of what I call Masters, not just in technique and or application, but with their lifestyle and influence on those around them. Sad to hear of the passing of Pendekar Paul a few years back, so if you are lucky enough to meet and train with Sifu Dan, I hope you can appreciate him for the man he is and for what he has done for the Martial Arts, and the impact he has had on so many lives. It simply doesn't get any better than that.
Imagine what he could do when he just 32 ? , what level he is? and if he still alive, the world of martial art will never be the same but anyway god always love good people the most.
Yeah, and Ron is a disrespectful asshole who used Sifu Larry Hartsell. I knew his arrogant a s s from his days in Chicago and I would still like to fight him. Sifu Larry did not go to their wedding and apologized to Diana for it, because it was Ron. I had over 100 hours of Private Lessons with Sifu Larry and stayed with him and his widow Debra many times. FU Ron.
I was 10 when I first seen Game of Death . Also Way of the Dragon was the second film showing . Bruce Lee just blew my mind way.. You and him going at it those nunckus. Then In Way of the Dragon... Bruce n Chuck Norris... I just want to say Thank you.. Bruce Lee. Thank you... Dan Inosanto.
The legends lives on in Dan inosantos, and bruce lee taught him before he pass and use what he learn from bruce and mix with his and became a very good martial arts. 🤜💥✋🤼♂️ Great Job Masters. 👍👍 BE WATER 💧MY FRIEND .
Diana Lee Inosanto sensei played The Magistrate in the season two of The Mandalorian. Her fight scene with Jedi Knight Togruta specie Asohka Tano was a delight to see.
Why? This video is about Guro Dan specifically. There are many talented people that might deserve their own video. The truth is Guro Dan has done the most to spread the art. What a silly thing to say.
one of the true Legend a grandfather of Martial Arts aside to the late Master/Sifu Bruce lee. long live to you Kabayan Mr.Master/Shifu Dan Inosanto.🙏🙏🙏
It just occurred to me who Dianna is. I used to go to Dans seminars and i remember him and his wife pushing a baby in a baby stroller into the gym. Dam i feel old now lol
( DAN INODANTO ) , WAS , LIKE A FAITHFUL , BROTHER OF ( BRUCE LEE 😎) .!!!!!!!! . HE NOT ONLY TRAING , WITH HIM , HE KNEW HIM PERSONALLY .!!!!!! AND THE FAMILY .!!!!! . SO HIS COMMENTS ARE FROM THE HART 🌹💖🌹.....SEE HIM IN , ACTION , IN : ( IN THE GAME OF DEATH 💀 ) ...... 👍☯️👍....
its not about will its simply because FMA is simply ferocious this is because as said ancient filipinos doesnt have protective gears so it was either you take down your opponent first or you get beaten or killed and getting beaten will surely hurt so yeah ferocity was basically a requirement i mean who needs protective gears if you could overwhelm your opponent
Bruce Lee introduced me to Dan Inosanto who'd introduced me to the existence of Kali and Eskrima. I hope to lean more about he arts and the culture a lot more in the future.
My husband studied in Stockton from Grandmaster Leo Giron in the early and mid 80's. A young Marine learning from the Grandmaster. Leo was a wonderful man! Dan, you are as well. God Bless
When I was a child, my dad already have the DVD of Enter The Dragon for a long time, I believe. He told me that Dan Inosanto is a Filipino and a friend of Bruce Lee and that's why I'm so surprised. Both of them are a good friends. Rest In Peace, Bruce Lee. 🕊️
The old eskrimadors didnt use headggrar because it wasnt manly enough, deym, huge respect for the old OGs of eskrima, its Juego Todo by the way, the gearless sparring between clubs, and you had to sign a waiver coz u might die...
It’s Great To Hear 👂🏼 Dan-Inosanto (Filipino-American) and Bruce-Lee (Chinese-American) Hit it off almost Instantaneously.. More than Less these 2 Great Martial-Artists #RESPECTED each-Other even Tho There Cultural Background We’re Seperated by Oceans...!!!
I was got hit many times with my mom’s stick and yet I haven’t learn to defend myself. Well, what Ive learned is to say nothing and stay still so not much stick hits will be taken. 😂
If everyone that was a legend or professional in martial arts, karate, kali etc. I would wish for them to be alive still and I would want to see them all compete in a Tournament and see who will win.
At times a talented person or quick learner will do well. Also perhaps the other didn't practice enough. When a former dancer or gymnast is a on she welcome to teach because ,for example, they are already flexible therefore kicks and a lot of techniques come faster even in grappling.. train hard y'all.
Berlando Hadley you just keep on telling yourself that , Mister 2 weeks. Maybe he lost because you were studying something very good. It's really not at all about you
i wish i was praticig with bruce or insanto becuz i believe in ma own self that i can create something else of calm of mind that can get u to know what ur doing
