The old AGI games actually had great polyphonic music if you played them on a Tandy. As a musician you should definitely check them out. Try Dosbox Tandy emulation on all the old AGI games like KQ1-3 and SQ1-2. You can definitely tell they put a lot of effort in the music composition.
Genesta was evil. If you didn't get the fruit, but saved Genesta, Genesta wouldn't take you to get the fruit you forgot to get. Why? Couldn't she have teleported you to the tree if you forgot to pick it? Obviously this so-called good fairy is just a narcissist, putting her own needs before that of Rosella's. Narcissists will step upon and use those to get what they want. That's what Genesta did.
For some reason, I just could NOT get the bad ending or even get killed by the zombies. No matter how long I waited, the game seemed to outright refuse to go into night time unless I got the fruit and the scarab.

to not sound off like a parrot...King's Quest 4 is my favorite King's Quest game YET!!!!! Sure KQ5 and KQ6 started the awesome point and click for the series and made everything much MUCH better. The music and environments of KQ4 are still beatiful to me and my favorite part is when you can scare the trees with your MIGHTY WOOD AXE (+5 against evil trees)
1:36 That's hilarious! And I know exactly what you mean. My first PC from 1998 had a proper PC speaker, not these tinny things they have nowadays, and I remember how annoying the sound was. Not actually eardrum-shattering, but not something you could listen to discretely, nor would you want to listen it for long anyway if you have real audio.
All hail Dorothy! I guess I'm a fan of the game...I didn't finish it, not even close, but I hated that whale part. My sister did too. And sadly I was a forgetful kid and lost the instruction booklet. Since it was an early Sierra game, I was hosed. I never found that darn bridle on the deserted island. When I was little, I thought that all the characters looked sunburned and I felt pretty bad for them.
There was a lot of games with female leads but this is seen as the true first game to have a female lead. The game was made to bring more woman into this style of game play. I wish to see a remake of this also if you play the sgi ver of this game on a old computer the timing is off for the animation such as going to the castle the guards are not able to get to you letting you keep talking up to the castle doors. I think you can get past the mommy to but no one did try this as many did try on new hardware not able to.
