King's Quest I, also known as Quest for the Crown in the later releases, is the flagship series of Sierra On-Line, who would become royalty for the point 'n' click graphic adventure genre in the eighties and nineties, competing for the crown with LucasFilm Games. The original 1984 game featured the hero, Sir Graham, as he ventured on a quest given to him by King Edward, to find the lost treasures of Daventry and bring them home. This included a magic mirror that sees the future, a magic chest full of ever-lasting gold, and a magic shield that grants the user with invincibility. Throughout his quest, Graham faces wolves, witches, ogres and even a giant, all standing in the way of his quest. Roberta Williams designed this game to be replayable for IBM's PC Junior release as well, so there are several solutions to many of the puzzles. The design of King's Quest would go on to inspire others creating games for the genre, including Ron Gilbert's Monkey Island series, which I have covered extensively here on Scarfulhu.
