This has been the case in Britain for the last three centuries or so incase you haven't been paying attention

UK is a democracy and this is the tradition. What's your problem? The King is the Head of state above the party politics, as so many European presidents who have just a ceremonial status. However, they all like the King, have an important job in taking care of continuity, bringing experience and stepping in when some high-level actor with no political ambitions but just the best of the nation in mind, is needed. As so many former PMs have said, that is extremely valuable when the PMs face problematic situations. No doubt, a lot of experience was transferred by the late Queen to the King and the same is happening from Charles III to the current Prince of Wales. No party political barriers here, but pure continuity.

While we could dispense with the attire (but then it might become rather banal and attract less foreign interest in the UK?), the event itself is not just ritual for the sake of it but is constitutionally significant and legally necessary.
