GL salmon presentations can be super complicated or as easy as putting walleye cranks on boards. I would like to see a video going more in depth on the specifics of king rigs. Like leader lengths, trolling direction, thermoclines, spoons vs flashers/fly, and all the minutiae that can be overlooked. It's all kind of intimidating for beginners.

@@InDepthOutdoorsTV Do you drive around until you find bait, or are you setting up based on water temperature at depth and the fish follow that? It's such a big lake, what makes you stop and drop lines?
@engineerpete7
@engineerpete7 3 года назад
@@tercelfish00 Dude, All that stuff you're asking about would take hours and hours. There are a ton of videos on youtube about all of this. from boat set-up to all the different styles of lines and lures and knots used. Look up TangledTackle out of Michigan, Bill Saiff III from New York or NoFishNick from Wisconsin. But most of all GET ON THE WATER! Spend time on the water and just experiment with different things.
@pjvick3128
@pjvick3128 3 года назад
@tercelfish00 their are definitely plenty of variables but I will give you the condensed version. King Salmon prefer water temperatures in the 45-52 degree range. On the Wisconsin shore a strong or consistent westerly wind will set those water temperatures up closer to shore and easterly winds will do the opposite. Find where that 45-52 degree water temperatures are at along with bait and you are in the right zone!

Was a great season for me out of Sheboygan and a epic limit of all kings in a little over a hour opening of salmon-a-Rama. Two years ago my gf and I had all 6 rods fire at once all north of 18lbs kings one giant. It’s something I never wanna go through again. My arms hurt for a week

Great episode, James! Big Michigan guy, myself! Just one critique on the inflatable PFDs...... They are 100% useless the way they are currently being worn. If one was to fall overboard and it deployed with as loose as they are they will literally come right off over your head. All the straps should be snugged up nice and tight around your chest. And for others watching.... They legally need to be worn unlike a traditional pfd that can just be in the boat and not worn (besides young children who need them on).

down riggers catch plenty of fish with swr's and with out use the 100 ft rule when deploying the riggers and run your rigger rods with 15 pound leaders of floro carbon line on spoons, flasher flys don't matter and you will be on a better rigger bite but be sure your not running junk reels cheep reels = lost equipment

Always interesting to see how you North Central guys fish Kings. We here in the PNW do it a fair bit differently. Definitely think we can learn from each other. ✌

Wow some of those fish were absolute tanks! Is there a window in the spring here where the bite is the best? Or would you say the bite stays pretty consistent throughout the year? Great show

Glad you enjoyed the show! The months of July, August and September are your best shot at the large four year old kings along the Wisconsin shore. Most of those large ones are over in Michigan waters this time of year. As far as one to three year old salmon they are just starting to show up along the Wisconsin shore and can be a fantastic spring bite along with a great spring coho bite from now until the end of June.

The amount of mercury in that fish can kill you. Lake Michigan is so polluted for the mills and steel industry dumping chemicals. Then let’s talk about the sewage. Won’t swim in it or eat anything coming out of it. I live less than 5 miles from the lake. It’s pitiful
