Good chanel!, congrats for that piece, i bought the same model 3 years ago and it has exceed all my initial expectations. It has a fantastic simple dial design with many complex details (hands, logo, back, profile and lugs, movement..) that make it an affordable masterpiece.

+Canon Yeo oh that is a nice model. They did release a King Seiko limited edition model in 2001. I believe and it was very similar to this, but they cost quite a lot when they pop out for sale
Wow, didn't know that. Anyway, VFA plus minus 2 sec is guaranteed for 2 years. I don't have Rolex superlative so I don't know, but, I do have a few Rolex chronometers, and they are all not accurate. Hope to see you do a thorough review soon.

They pop up on yahoo auctions Japan sometimes but the last one was sold for $150 so I skipped it, I tried getting one from yobokies but sadly it doesn't fit

Great 45KS! Unfortunately, the mainspring is more likely to break than other KS models since it vibrates at 36000. I am also thinking to get this model, but struggling this between 52KS chronometer special.
+Make SPQR Great Again I am aware of the mainspring, however one can still be bought from time to time, in fact, almost every part for this movement can still be bought but they are a bit pricey
Same anxiety here (45-7000 the no date version) ;) my watchmaker mentioned that it was dry and dirty, however no damages that required part changes. That would have been a challenge as these are hard to find. Given the hi beat the wear is higher than lower beat ones and requires special/often lubrication/service.
+razvan radu I hope mine has no damage as well. The problem is many people neglect servicing watches and these ARE NOT the ones you want to skip service with. It's an equivalent of a high performance car, it will get damaged if not maintained properly

Haha I wasn't offended, no worries 😁 and I meant it, I will be including a macro if the seconds hand in the review, it's just that there are always new watches coming in and I never have time to do this one. I always postpone it as it is in my possession while the others I have to return
I hate to break it to you but as a watch maker I can assure you that the 45 calibers in these watches is actually one of the worse movements to have been made by Seiko. Once looking passed the headlining facts of the high beat rate you start to realize that these had many problems. To begin the first was the hacking mechanism which was prone to breaking away from the arm that actually stops the seconds hand. The quick-set date is another problem and on both date and day date models they tended to actual malfunction due to the thinness of the date lever. They did fix this on the second generation of this watch but yours is the first based on the medallion being present. The 45xxx calibers were notoriously mediocre in terms of accuracy compared to the late 5xxx series movements hence why the designation of chronometer, special and VFA were given to watches that used the 5xxx movements because they were that accurate yes you will find some 4xxx series movements with these ratings but they had trouble with acheiving these accuracies so they are much more rare to find under the special and VFA designation. The Neuchatel observatory chronometric competitions proved this to be true and seiko found the 5xxx movements to be more accurate overall as a production run. The ones given the astronomy certified chronometer rating were actually no were near 6 times the price of grand seiko and in fact closer to about 50 percent more than the special designated 5xxx series watches even though they were in real world practice not significantly more accurate most likely caused by the aother known issues the 4xxx series movements had at that point. The 5xxx series movements were designed and made from what was learned from the mediocre 45xx series movements as well as the observatory competitions. As a watch maker the 45 series movements are also prone to massive main train wear starting from the regulating organ upward due to the high beat rate and it is recommended that you have them serviced 40 percent more often than the 5xxx series movements. They were also known to have very common mainspring issues as well. The 5xxx series movements were massively better and are considered the best Seiko movements ever made hence why modern Grand Seiko movements such as series 9sxx were engineering wise based on the 5xxx movements before them and not the 4xxx series. I have a HUGE problem with channels and people like you who spread falsery so before you go spreading misinformation do some research and ask people who actually work on these.
If you have a HUGE problem, why not make a channel of your own to educate people like us? But make sure to check your facts as well. 1. Claiming that the movement with the highest accuracy rating EVER offered by Seiko and one that was developed AS A RESULT of previous years competitions as THE WORST movement Seiko made really makes me wonder about your knowledge. 2. The 9S WAS NOT based on the 5xxx, the 4S was. 9S was completely newly designed with the 4S being used to get the know how back to the company that lost it during the quartz years. 3. The 45 has the mainspring issue as it handles more energy and yes it needs more service just like a high performance engine does, BUT the 56 movements have issues with date set gear being made of plastic which after 40+ years became brittle and brakes easily which is why companies like Vintage Time Australia re-create metal ones. While the 52 series has its issues. NONE of these movements is PERFECT, but they are all great, and of all these great movements I find the 45 to be THE BEST.
Learned a new word today: _falsery_ . I looked it up and means, "He who uses the word is pompous." True story. Further, if the 5xxx "are considered the best Seiko movements ever made" then Grand Seiko does indeed have problem. Also, paragraphs remain a thing. The Return/Enter key is real.
It's actually truly incredible the extent to which you are wrong. In the first case, for someone to discuss the 5xxx calibers in any sort of generic sense while glossing over that the Daini produced 52xx and Suwa produced 56xx share zero parts or movement design in common is already instantly disqualifying. For one thing, the Suwa produced 56xx have chronic problems with a plastic piece in the day/date quickset mechanism breaking due to age related shrinkage and generally the question is *when* any given 56xx with a day or date complication will have the quickset fail, not if. Thankfully you can finally get aftermarket metal replacements, but they aren't cheap. Next, NO 52xx or 56xx movement was ever adjusted to VFA specifications, and in fact the most famous vintage Seiko caliber to ever be adjusted to VFA standards, and the only Seiko movement ever submitted for Astronomical Observatory Chronometer certification were 45xx movements. Not only that, but even the lesser adjusted King Seiko versions tend to be extraordinarily accurate if they were maintained well. My 1971 45-7001 runs very close to Astronomical Observatory Chronometer spec (I literally translated the old testing manual to get the procedures) and much better than modern COSC chronometer spec. It's quite a lot more accurate than the King Seiko Special 5256-8010 I have, which itself runs pretty close to modern COSC chronometer spec. Next, the 45xx certainly does have more wear and tear issues than the Daini produced 52xx does (after all the 52xx is a legendarily reliable movement), and worse still, the 45xx has no low-tier donor movements available, which makes sourcing donors expensive if you need a part you can't get otherwise, but those are the breaks when buying and maintaining a vintage thoroughbred movement. The reliability of the 56xx, even aside from the chronic quick-set problems, is nothing special. It's only the ubiquitous supply of cheap Lord Matic donors that makes the 56xx a less pricey proposition. Next, the modern Grand Seiko 9Sxx movements are NOT based on the 5xxx movements. The modern 4Sxx movement was not "based on" the vintage 52xx movement, it IS the vintage 52xx movement with some minor updates, and it has nothing to do with the Suwa produced 56xx. Actually, all modern Seiko mechanical movements that trace their origins to the 1960s and 1970s are based on Daini movement designs, not Suwa (e.g. the 68xx, which Credor still uses). The Grand Seiko 9Sxx was a clean-sheet design that did not directly draw on any vintage Seiko movements. If I felt like spending the time, I'm sure I could identify more things you're wrong about, but in sum, you are wrong about absolutely everything and should never talk about watches on the internet again. Delete your account.
I guess you get what you pay for, mine was higher than any on Ebay at the moment. Lets just say more than $500. It was higher than I was willing to pay initially, but after seeing the condition more closely and ESPECIALLY after seeing it in person, I think I got a bargain :) Some might say it is a bitt high, but since I plan on keeping this one in my collection and not flipping it, the potential resale value was of no interest to me.
Great catch! I got one from ab JP ebay seller for 400 usd (the no date version 45-7000) that is in great shape but no way near the condition your is! Love the simplicity and yet how exquisite the movement is! I recently purchased an original KS buckle (seems that these are harder to find than the watches themselves) for almost one third of the watch.... :) what is the glass case back that is suitable for this model? Thanks!
+razvan radu yeah the buckles are getting more and more expensive. The glass case back is made by a man I Japan and shows up from time to time on yahoo auctions Japan for sale, but like I said, it is very pricey, starting with 9.000 yen which combined with all the fees and shipping and taxes gets to almost 15000 yen by the time it reached me, so I am still thinking about it.
Well there are hairline scratches on it, but considering the age, it looks more like a few months old, rather then decades. The sharpness of the edges is the most impressive part as it didn't get polished during it's life
@@WatchGeek yeah exactly. When you first took it out I can see the shine which I initially thought was re polished but no it is really that new, sharp and shiny! Congrats man.
How much did u get this? And what website did u use. I wud be interested in getting a KS in mint condition. Never mind the 45 movement coz that wud be very hard to get.
