King Sigurd (and his brothers to) were truly humble men for being Kings and just a couple of generations after their mighty Viking ancestors

Sigurd's Crusade was the only true Crusade which accomplished all of their goals they established before leaving Norway/Europe. Their efforts in the Iberian Peninsula absolutely terrified the Moors. The same can be said for their efforts in Minorca and Majorca. Absolute beast of a fighting force.

King Sigurd is the most honorable, and successful crusader of them all. He was the first sitting european king who traveled to Jerusalem to fight the gentiles, because that was his greatest wish. It was a very successful campaign in Jerusalem. He fought and organized 4 battles in southern Spain, Ibiza, Mallorca, before continuing to Sicily and Jerusalem. In total, 5 battles and 5 victories! I just wish king Sigurd could stay longer in Jerusalem.

In Socialist public school of Scandinavia - this part of our history is no longer in the curriculum, which suuucks.

My multi-year project researching my family genealogy has been quite the journey through 2,000+ years of history. One thing that became apparent was the Viking blood didn't settle down with Christianity. Not for a very long time anyway, especially on the Danish side. I, like a lot of Scandinavian-Americans, thought the Norse immediately became peaceful farmers and fishermen but that's not the case. In A.D. 1107 there were still a lot of pagan Vikings around as well as Christianized ones. The brutal raid of Visby, Gotland in 1361 is a good example of my rowdy Danish side from Bornholm failing to be peaceful.

the father, Magnus, was named after Carolus Magnus aka Charlemagne. unlike his namesake his sons got along
