Very Kool king Size Sting Rays! I grew up in Galesburg Illinois and I moved to Tulsa a few decades ago. I make it back to Galesburg and the Quad Cities for music every year. I’ve got a collection of Chicago Schwinn Rays. Ive always wanted to build a 26 inch Sting Ray. The biggest bike in my collection is a campus green Manta Ray, it has a regular Sting Ray seat and I converted it to a Rams Horn Fastback style. It still feels too small for me to ride comfortably. So, I’d really like to chat with you about sourcing parts to start building a 26 inch Ray. All the best, 😎
That's a great idea creating 26" tributes to the Schwinn Stingrays ! My parents bought me a 1970 "Orange Krate" 🍊 for $105 for my 11th birthday. It had every styling cue from the 60s dragster Mustle era nailed to perfection. Turned alot of heads but I had never seen what pure jealousy looked like until I rode that beauty around the neighborhood that summer. Made the other kids bikes look like brown paper bags or something. They would shout out that they were going to cut my bike in half. Sad. It was something extra special that stood apart in that time.
Worksman Bicycle Co. has been making bikes in America since 1889, and still do.If you are looking for front drum brake set ups they might be able to help. I love Big Orange my older brother had an Orange Krate back in the 70's, I rode it and flipped it with that front brake LOL.
Awesome bike builds Tony! You said the slicks are "sulky" tires and you used a 29" Springer fork. Where do you get the fenders? You have inspired me to rekreate a Krate. I would enjoy watching a RU-vid video of your construction process. Keep on Building!
I'd like an orange one, similar to the one you have here. Add a Shimano Rapid-Shift 15-speed transmission (3-speed front derailleur, 5-speed rear derailleur) dual rear-view mirrors, and a small basket on the handlebars, and I'm SOLD!
I love these bikes! Beautifully done. I considered my Schwinn Sting-Ray to be my "freedom machine" in the '60s. I still ride a lot, but I don't have a bike like these. Do you ever sell these or others you have built?
I have not sold these. Mainly for my own pleasure hobby. Most people would not pay the amount needed to make it worth while. Most of them have easily 3-4 thousand invested in building them. I would want to sell at some profit. Who wants to buy one at $5000 or more?
Where did you find those beautiful fenders I am trying to find some for my 26-inch Corvette frame just like yours I am having a hard time trying to find them
I have a 56 Schwinn Corvette … I’m wondering about making it adult friendly, even though I would be giving up the classic look that the original has. It’s fun to look at but 5’11 180 pounds that size is a little too small for me, no matter how I change the seat height and handlebars. My favorite bike is Pure Rides large with a modern 8speed gearing system. I need something like that for gears and size.

If you are asking about this 26 inch size they are nearly impossible to find. But the name you would look for is Carlisle Sulky Slick. It is NOT a Schwinn sized tire so you will not be able to use Schwinn wheels. If you are asking about a 20 inch slick tire, these are also difficult to find, but they can be found. eBay or swap meets.

Marcial you are correct. Same with the Coppertone bike. I even state this and point this fact out in the video. I am very clear about this. This is also why some of the bikes are "Schwinn Again" meaning they were originally a Schwinn bike now reborn with new life, OR "Schwinn Inspired" meaning bikes that were not originally Schwinn but repurposed and built with inspiration of the Schwinn styles.
