King Song S20 vs Begode Hero: The Best Suspension EUC Right Now 

Enjoyed the video. FYI - all the Gotway wheels have the "jelly mode" in the wheels that have the lift button. I think you shortchanged the Hero light - it brightens substantially when the wheel is moving. But it still is pointed at the ground which isn't great. S20 is best here for sure. There is a grub screw at the bottom of the pedal hanger on the Hero. You tighten it to make the pedals as stiff as you want. I also didn't know about it at first. Overall, I agree with your assessment. Great video.

Thanks Jimmy and Andrew! I am waiting for the Master. I was able to try a suspension and pad upgraded Hero and it is a very solid urban suspension wheel. It really eats city bumps well at 40MPH. I also like the S20 but I agree with what U-Stride thinks went wrong. It definitely sounded like a capacitor popping before the S20 cut-out and caught on fire. I hope Kingsong can fix it quickly and restore confidence because I would like to see production S20s compete.

Went and watched Hsiang's bonfire video after seeing a piece here. Begode is no longer alone in the (burning) doghouse. Very scary. Even my V-12, off for pre-emotive new boards, now feels a little suspect. For now, I'd let neither of these wheels into my home. Good and fair of you to share the S20 fire footage.

Great video! Seemed like a fair comparison with good points on both sides. Re: lights …. not to say they don’t matter but it’ll always be safest to have additional lighting on your body etc so I’d probably still feel safe at night with the Hero

Hi Jimmy, great video on the Hero again! I agree with that wise dude Mike about a bird in the hand and I love the way you ended the video with that reference mixed in with the new s20 explosion. I just want to add two things. Regarding the seat, from what I've seen another videos, the rear of the s20 seat is not supported, it just is floppy and hangs off the back meaning that you have to sit forward for it to work and when you do that, it appears to be rather uncomfortable and you end up covering up the screen. So I would urge a reconsideration and recount of that point. In addition, the explosion videos mentioned that the metal casing of the batteries helped the fire and explosion progress. I don't know how true that is, but it kind of made sense. I've got to say, with all the torque and power of the Hero I love it more more each day that I ride it.

This wheel is fire 🔥😁

The S20 pedals can be adjusted and be placed in front. The friction on the pedals won't last. S20 suspension arm can be adjusted. You can adjust the travel. While seated on the Hero it's very easy to accidentally hit the trolly button. A friend with the Hero told me.

My s18 has that same "jelly mode" your describing. It feels like it's trying to lock the rotor with just 1 phase. I think it's to keep it from rolling away easily.

So I read the Ks statement that they are going to look into the Eagle Fire… do we know yet if that means they are delaying the production release time? Or is that just a potential situation? They still have till around may there are supposed to come to the states right? So if they figure out what’s happening in the next week and it’s a easy fix, I don’t see this delaying anything yet … unless it does lol

I think its hilarious that Gotway copied KingSong's S18 handle for the Hero .... then KingSong copied Gotway's terrible handle design of the RS19 for the S20 😂. There is no doubt that the trolly handle was a low priority in the S20 design. The good news for me is that I rarely use the trolly handle.

Had payed for the s20 when the fire happened, switched over to a hero. I like that this review came up with so many positive things about the Hero, no buyers remorse here👍

I'd say that the v12 has the best screen. The s18 also had the "jelly" mode where the motor is partially engaged.

The hero light sucks but they do go brighter when you're going. You can lift the the hero with 2 points under the suspension and under the front light like a Sherman. Much better. The pedals are floppy but you can tighten the bottom grub screw but they do losen up over time.

So with the s20 fire incident- suspect that will be delayed even further as you suggested. What are your thoughts on hero vs master?

Good comparison review. Although, Even Begode pronounces their company as (BeGoad) and not (BeGodey). I honestly don't know where people get the extra 'e' or 'a', but it's a bit of a pet peeve of mine to hear someone mispronounce their name after more than a year of the name change. Funny how OneWheel has the issues they are facing and now KingSong has a different set of problems.

Did you have the latest firmware on the S20 when testing torque? Apparently it makes a huge difference in early torque (from Chooch).

Regarding the pads.... The S20 pads were obviously designed with style as the main goal and functionality followed behind that. Those crappy S20 pads are better than nothing, but they could have included some cheap pads that worked much better - but didn't look as cool. The S20 branding "Eagle" requires the fancy looking power pads and their boomerang holding device to look eagle-like(ish). King Song spent a lot of time on those pads and they almost certainly raise the price of every wheel by over $100 (retail). I wish they would offer a pad-less version for less money - it could even use a smaller box for cheaper shipping! The reality is the S20 pads are all about marketing, they want a device that looks really cool and will draw new people into EUCs... and that is a good thing, but I wish they could find a way to do it without increasing the product cost and shipping container size in order to give us some junk that is not functional and needs to be replaced to get the most out of our unicycle.

I didn't even consider Begode as a viable option in the past, but I have to admit, looking pretty can't be given more importance than being functional and reliable for an EUC. Although we have yet to see the Begode on a long range test afaik ...

If I activate lift switch on my good old Begode Tesla T3, it has exactly the same jelly effect. It is very nice and I think that it is the same for all Begode wheels :).

Love the S20 Fenix's 130 mm travel real suspension.

The Hero is a final production model also right? So it's being compared with an early pre production wheel which is pretty good for KS imo. I have faith they will recover and have or will fix the s20 problem. I don't mind them renaming it the s22 either. Heck. Gotway (Begode) changed their entire company name and even made a new one (Extreme Bull) after all their drama.

s20 vs begode master would be a more fair comparison.

I pick up my hero from the suspension and under the front light never use the handle it’s too heavy

The first point for the S20 should have actually two points: 1. Being able to switch out suspension parts. 2. Being able to adjust the suspension in the field. Kind of important if you're videos focusing on "the best suspension EUC", because IMO those are two very different aspects to the suspension systems.

I would love to say something about this comparison but I will hold my tongue and wait and see which wheel sells more.

The one wheel PEV's are so far advanced with their voltage, and take the most skill to ride. I see quite a few skilled riders here in SF CA. Thank you for this comparison video. Cheers.

use epoxy for the seat. never fails but you will also never get it off.. if you want something you can remove the construction adhesive is possible but still very had to remove use JB weld for epoxy and for adhesive Lepage PL i never sit but like having the padding there on my S22

Hi Jimmy love your videos but you are saying something that is not true on the seat of the hero.. is not functional at least until you put a layer of foam to all the surface be taller than the off of switch otherwise if you seat and you stand up the handle will open majority of the times hugs man and continue the good eork

For god sake. KingSong have actually working suspension, so you need to multiply first point to 10, i think. S20 just better product in almost every way! I saw russian disassembly video about hero, and hero is utter mess. Suspension misaligned to the point where it can't work, friction pairs made of shitanium. All euc's would have a bit better build quality, but hero is just a bucket with screws and bolts, and holds together only with power of Chinese goo. If you want suspension wheel, it's better to stick with trusty *old* S18, it was improved, and now in usable state as opposite to hero.

Hero is a no for me cause of disassembly, classic gotway shortcuts. One tire change and you might be out of a wheel.

The s20 is going to blow up

Now the Masters are hitting the streets, and the Eagle still hides in its smokey bush. I’m guessing the master might have won a point or two that the S20 won in this comparison. It would be interesting to see this done again with the Master. But we really do need to get our hands on a real production S22 to make real judgement ☹️

you should get a street tire on the Hero, believe me....it will feel like a totally new wheel....

My guess is that KS is going to come out with a LiFePo upgrade. What remains to be seen is if they can afford to offer it as a fix without going out of business or how much we'll have to pay for it. Maybe they planned all along to have the upgrade after watching the other EUC manufacturers' QC issues but didn't want to get lumped in with them; it would actually increase preorder demand if they say they're pushing back a month to swap the packs out to the safer ones instead of all the orders that would be killed if they just announced the issues and pushed the upgrade delay (where many would just cancel their preorders or demand that they get their EUC now with the original cells because "they're willing to assume the risk" which should be legal but it's not defensible if someone gets hurt). That's pure speculation but there are plenty of scenarios, none of which is going to get me to change my preorders because if they don't fix the problems then the CPSC will get involved and nobody is going to be shipping anything into the US for a while. They let pretty much any bugs slide a long time (see: Lexus Unintended Acceleration) except FIRE.
