I was arrested for the first time ever for something I didn't do when I was around 18YO. Being young and naive I refused a solicitor/lawyer and answered their questions when interviewed, remaining silent made me feel like I was concealing something from them even tho I hadn't done anything! I had to attend an ID parade a few weeks later and to my horror the victim picked me out!!! After that the detective handling the case told me that I'd get 2 years! For something I hadn't done! Eventually the charges were dropped due to lack of evidence but in the months leading up to that were pure Hell for me. If I'd have been convicted the victim could have claimed compensation, I believe that was his motive. People suck. The police suck. Life sucks. Don't give the fuxxers an inch.
