My favorite part is the cheering that you hear after the ride returns to the staging point. Kingda Ka and Top Thrill Dragster are both one of the rare instances where people are happy when the ride doesn't perform as intended.
I love how everyone in the line is cheering. Like, "Yay, the 2 hours that we just waited to get this far have been extended by another 10 minutes, weeeeee"
Imagine being afraid of this ride and finally working up the courage to strap yourself in, only to regret it when you pull out of the station. You sit there, waiting for the coaster to launch forward and when it finally does, you think 10 more seconds and I'm off only for it to roll backwards and reset. I can hear my heart in my ears now. :P
Omg. Imagine playing truth or dare and choosing dare and your dare is to go on this. The person who dared you days “it’s only 20 seconds, just once up the hill and you’re done” and then a rollback *gives them the evil eye*
Liam Crow It can, it just hasn't yet. Top Thrill Dragster is almost the exact same ride and it's gotten stuck on top at least 3 times. If it can, Kingda Ka can.
@@scarystevecraft8576 no they couldn't lmao The ride is designed to rollback if it doesnt make it to the top, there is a brake system where the launch is
@@scarystevecraft8576 how tho? There are brakes that keep the train from flying into the station at 2000 kilometers per hour and crashing into the other car, causing a massive explosion, engulfing the riders, operators, and people in the queue in an explosion like the world has never seen 😂
The crowd in line roaring and cheering as the train rolls back braking just makes the video for me. It's just the best. Hell, I would love it if I got a rollback!
That's actually pretty cool. I'm glad that they have safety precautions in case that happens. I guess that's why they don't let the second cart out until the first one is over the hill. Also, I love how you could hear people cheering in the background after it happened. XD
Bro, it isnt magnets that drives this train. It's a cable car :) The magnets are brakes just for this cause. They retract when launching, and just when the train rolls past them, they pop up again :)
i. was laughing the whole time and smiling I almost hit my on the bars because I couldn't control my body and I was tilting and my cousin had to push me in couldn't bring myself up but had a regular smile picture
So jealous :D . I've been on many, many times but I've never even come close to a rollback. I have seen one in person before though, while waiting in line for Zumanjaro. One day.... Anyway, I think it's freakin' awesome how everyone started cheering when you got back down. Plus, you guys probably got a free second launch!
According to a ride op I know, it only rolls back once a day or once every 2 days, out of the thousands of times it launches in that time. You have to be REALLY lucky to get one!
+Xavier Vargas no modern roller coasters would do that, it's a major safety hazard. Roller coasters usually have 2 trains, and while one is travelling through the coaster, the other one is immobile, and passengers are boarding it. they only launch the second train when the first one has reached the breaks at the end of the station.
If everyone sits in the back, And the wind is blowing very strong so that it pushes against the coaster as it gets to the top of the hill this happens, I hear its rare.... Rare cause who wants to sit in the back xD
The operators are required to fill the whole train for this very reason. If you only have a few people in the train (no matter where they're sitting) and you don't use the launch boost that you use to launch empty trains, it will most likely roll back.
I hear it happens almost daily. But that the employees know how to handle it in the case of a rollback. In fact, the very coaster itself it built with it in mind.
I have tried this roller coaster myself. But i'm pretty sure it happens because you get fired of from a huge spring. From the platform to the top. And some times the spring doesn't get enough momentum and doesn't quite make it to the top. And then it rolls safely back to the platform and get's fired of once again.
I would've been shitting myself once it started going backwards because I would've thought "wait this ain't suppose to do this shit and I'm about to die"
BertonRucker1 No, more mass means that more force is required to accelerate the train to the same speed. As the force from the hydraulic launch is fairly constant, the speed reached by a heavier train is less. The total energy in the system is the same each time. Assuming that air resistance on an empty or full train is also about the same, the deceleration up the tower due to gravity is also 9.81m/s/s ish. Now a slower moving heavier train will take less time to decelerate to 0m/s, therefore it will be travelling slower at the top.
Thanks for the clarification...I was just using what I thought as a 'logical' thought process. I didn't know if the science was actually right. The more you know :) peace
I was on it once when there was a rollback and oh my god I hadn't seen videos like this or known that could happen so for a few seconds I thought it was gonna crash and we were all gonna die
ForTheFans same. I mean I flat out refuse to go on this ride every time I go to the park....but this just adds to my reasons of not going on it! It happens ALOT
ForTheFans Lol it's completely normal for it to rollback now and then. in fact there are thousands who would love to be on it when it does because its a totally different experience. But you're completely safe when it rolls back. The ride just resets and launches again with a bit more speed to get over the hill.
The description :D "me and friends riding kindga ka and it fails to make it over sending us backwards back to the platform and we all crash and die. THE END."
It’s technically not a fail safe as the ride is designed to roll back (at least on TTD) to rollback every once in awhile. They could theoretically make it so the ride never roles back, but it is more fun to ride when you know that it could possibly rollback
I went on this once, but no rollback! Glad, cause I wouldn't do it a second time! I got off this ride and it took 10 min for all my organs to settle back into place!
Hey could be worse. Cedar point's TTD (top thrill dragster) got stuck at the top. An engineer had to come and push them downward. TTD has repeated this error- TWICE.
This is one of the very best videos on RU-vid. I went on this twice and it is an amazing experience. As great as this coaster is, I still love Nitro a tad bit more.
By "copy", people mean that Six Flags ordered this same model shortly after Cedar Point installed theirs just so they can take the speed and height record from Cedar Point. Record-breaking coasters get GP normie peepees hard.
I mean yeah. But I thing Dragster is better. Maybe because of how conveniently close I am to cedar point. If it makes you feel better, I haven’t been on either of them.
Isaiah Moorehead the theming, lighting, and launch “Christmas tree” all make for a better experience. If they made another combining the experience of top thrill with the specs of kingda ka, it would be superior to either. Also Kingda Ka having shoulder harnesses for exactly no reason is a pretty heavy blow against it.
MegaBrokenstar Yeah, I like shoulder restraints but where’s the fun in that? It’s better to have the lap restraints so you get more of the feelings “you gonna die” Or just more adrenaline from being pulled from your seat. ... I wouldn’t know! I haven’t been on either of them!
This also sometimes happens on Stealth, a similar roller coaster at Thorpe Park (in the United Kingdom, near London). Some enthusiasts consider experiencing a rollback on Stealth to be an achievement.
so strange how it got so close to rolling over the top, and the front row was literally coming over the drop like it literally stopped for a few seconds before the train's weight pulled it back down
