The entire series is basically a parallel of two kids cheating at chess. See you guys in 10 years when we get to see the embarrassing photo of Xehanort at the Christmas party when they open the box
Feeling the controller shake to the heartbeat and hearing Donald and Goofy through my controller during the “death screen” is a moment I will never forget.
Isaiah that’s why KH3 is a great game, no matter what critics say. It’s not a perfect game, but very strong one. The reunion of both bbs and twilight trios is very emotional for me. Can’t shake my tears 😪
Regardless of what you think about the story, you gotta admit that this is a final boss that throws EVERYTHING at you. He uses a weapon he spent ages to make, he calls down fire pillars, he calls down kingdom hearts, he turns into a goat, he manipulates space and time to attack you with multiple enemies... No holds barred, as it should be.

@@stevendavis6157 We're at that point in time where we can't say "X character will never be in Smash, keep dreaming" or bullshit like that, we got some real fucking outlandish additions already, like Joker from Persona 5. Making this kind of comments is asking to be made fun of if that character ends up added in the future.
They literally put pacman... We even have the pirhanna plant as a fighter. We have Cloud from Final fantasy. We have Bayonetta. We have snake and sonic. I don't understand why Sora would be outside the realm of possibility at this point.
The way Armored Xehanort manipulated the area around them during the different stages of the first fight immediately reminded me of the Mirror Dimension from Doctor Strange.
So Square confirmed Kingdom Hearts 4: luxu saga, Kingdom Hearts 0: origin of the masters, Sora is still M.I.A, and they still have no idea what’s in the black box mentioned in 1? Yup this franchise ain’t over by a long shot.
Wing ZX1103 but what was Luxu’s role? 🤔 killing the foretellers and keeping their light in a mf box? Idek and I wanted these questions answered in KH3. But now they HAVE to make a kh4 to continue the story, especially since numerous reviews gave this game a 7.5 and higher.
Myles Stephens why do I feel like this is gonna be mass effect 3 all over again? They should’ve stopped at 3 for the sake of story but said screw it and kept running with it.
@@mylesstephens3607 Let's be real, did you really expect Square to answer EVERYTHING in this game when they can make money and push out more side games before LATER answering questions?
22:11 made me cry like a baby with Donald and goofy, who have always been by Sora’s side. They love him so much it’s so awesome to have such loyal friends. And we’ve seen sora grow up so much, and Donald and goofy raise him in a kind of way. I love this game, and this series and I will always love the message of friendship and love it teaches to kids and even adults. It’s amazing.
I totally get that! I cry every time and I'll rewind ot over and over. I almost can imagine myself and my two best friends there and it's that there that drives me, the fact it can be anyone's friends by there side against it all.
Ah, good point. I never realized that until now. Shows how useless he really was. EDIT: After some thinking, I'm beginning to believe they made the exit for Demyx on purpose to make us think he's actually useless.
If you ask me, Kingdom Hearts as a quality franchise ended right before the destiny island trio got a message from Mickey talking about the mark of mastery exam. It was pretty much all down hill from there story-wise (BBS was pretty decent but everything else just diluted what made Kingdom Hearts great imo).
@Ultmateluigiman would like to play with the other ones who were the protags of their one titels. You know? Roxas, aqua, riku. Those persons. Unless sora develops as a character.
sooo basically the whooolee series with the Xehanort being the main villain, did the plot just for his best friend to restart their “game” with new mechanics. This is like two besties who are gods just messing around
They aren't gods. The chess/"chess" games are just metaphors. Granted we don't know what this 7 darknesses vs. 1 light thing is going to entail, but it's pretty clear that although Xehanort had been planning to reenact the Keyblade War for a long time, Eraqus was... not in on that. He was just engaging in a harmless game of "chess" based on the legends.
@@MattGallagherComposer my assumption on the seven is that they represent the six foretellers and the MoM. At the very least we know the six to have Latin names of six out of the deadly sins. I think most of them have good intentions but were nevertheless corrupted by darkness. I still don't quite get Luxu's intentions in all of this, but considering I don't like the person he revealed himself to be, I don't trust him nearly as much. I need to analyze further lol.
@@AlxMar5 Way I see it, Luxu and the Foretellers aren't evil, and they didn't get corrupted by darkness. They're objectivist, almost to a fault, and some of them (cough, Ira) aren't okay with that, not okay with the positions they're supposed to be taking relative to both other Keyblade wielders and each other-an unease which the MoM only compounded with his tactics (bequeathing the BoP) that drove a wedge between them. Thing is, though? MoM still isn't evil, at least probably not. Again, he's _painfully_ objectivist: his Gazing Eye can see the future, and he's only doing what he can-what he MUST-to see that future to completion. Remember, as per the rules of time travel (and the prophecy is a form of information-only time travel), you can't change that which is already predetermined. As for Luxu in the epilogue? I still think he's following the MoM's directive. Again, cold indifference can come across as antagonism to some (cough, IRA) depending on that person's stance.
@@MattGallagherComposer right - that's exactly what I thought, but the chess game alludes to those characters being "darknesses", and the pieces clearly have the symbols of the foretellers. That could mean many different things, but it's (relatively) safe to assume that something happened to the foretellers which may cause them to go dark, beyond what we already know about them.
I’m sure they’re is going to be a flashback to it in the series eventually. The only thing I want from the Master of Masters appearance his for his eyes to look like the eyes on No Name. I don’t care about anything else but give him those blue dragon eyes.
@Criss Rivera there was this one time i played Farcry Primal. the water gets really scary fast with all the bitefish and crocs. good thing Takkar has eagle-vision
The way Sora did one last savage combo in Rage Mode before turning back to normal... it made me think he took a page from Riku's book. "Consume the darkness. Return it to light."
Xigbar was always the most memorable to me of the organization. Obviously a coincidence, I couldn't have called this in a million years... but it's kinda neat.
He always waas the guy pulling the strings. He was the second in command of the Orginization. He worked for the original Master Xehenort and he made Terranort evil.
RIP Rutger Hauer. While it is tough to match Leonard Nimoy's take as Master Xehanort, I believe you did a solid enough job. May your heart be your guiding key in the next life.
30:55 My favorite moment in all of Kingdom Hearts. Sora being given the most legendary keyblade by one of the strongest keyblade wielders ever is just touching to me. Very well done Square Enix.
@Ewan Callister All the reason to worry, The Reapers Game ain't no joke and if you saw the secret ending for TWEWY which builds up to whatever creative monstrosity Nomura is scheming, the stakes look very high lmao
2:17 would like to point out that you can still see his beard and eyes, meaning that whole goat thing is just a ridiculous helmet. Loki’s got competition
I can't look at that design the same way again; that looks awful! Why didn't they just give him No Heart's armor from BBS, I thought that was implied to be Xehanort's armor...
When was the armor destroyed? I don't think the fight in BBS is cannon, and armor can just be resummoned; I doubt the fight with Xemnas would have destroyed it permanently.
To anyone who still hasn't done so yet, I recommend watching the cutscenes for "Kingdom Hearts: Dark Road" and then come back to this scene. It made me sympathize with Xehanort.
Ava = Avarice Ira = Wrath Gula = Gluttony Invi = Envy Acer = Sloth Luxu aka. Xigbar = Lust Last one is unknown who is Pride. Pride refers Root of all Evil who might be stored inside that "What's in the box?". There are seven black chess pieces that resembles these 7 Deadly Sins. And four White chess pieces resembling 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse... Darksiders 4 when!!?
Unless it's been confirmed somewhere else I think Ira is sloth and Aced is wrath simply cause Aced was way more proactive in the events leading to the war
I just beat the game last night and literally nothing in this game made me cry more than Donald and Goofy calling out to Sora before he regains conciousness, like just that sudden realization of like “oh shit yknow this is the last fight im ever gonna have with these two goofballs” n I just started tearing up
@@kooganh6276 causes most of the problem in the franchise, did unspeakable and cruel things just to fulfill his own selfish desires, uses dark powers and even on their side, corrupts people and his end goal involves the eradication of all humans. He might not be literal satan, but is the closest thing. And hate to break it you; the fact that his armor resemble Baphomet and that his chess piece is demonic looking that also has horns are intentional by the developer to show the symbolism that you are fighting someone that symbolises the ultimate evil in the franchise, lol.
I don't believe its Daybreak town if you look at the shapes of each building it looks exactly the same as the town just flipped upside down from what we can see in the intro to the game aswell
You mean all the complicated stuff Nomura wrote? Yeah I agree. Plus even if he wanted Xehanort to be a Chessmaster, he could have accomplished it with Terranort being the original Xehanort. All this stuff with Master Xehanort creating multiple versions of himself is messy. Interesting but messy.
"I've seen things you keybladers wouldn't believe. Dragon Nobodies on fire over the World that Never Was. And i have seen Kingdom Hearts' glow through the Door to Darkness. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to join the Light"
Seeing how strong Xehanort is makes me wonder how strong the Master of Masters is , xehanort is basically a god at this point and the MM is supposed to be stronger
This is not the secret ending. This is the epilogue. The secret ending drops on the 31st so there is hope for more. I do think it's more about the Fortellers..
From the events and secret reports, I think this was the case regarding the characters from Union X. For the status; -Ephemer was confirmed to have passed on but his spirit remains in the Keyblade Graveyard -Skuld was the suspected Subject X in Ansem's studies but was released, location unknown -Lauriaum and Elerana have returned to normal as their nobody selves were defeated by Sora -Ventus reunites with Aqua and Terra, recently reconnected to his Chirithy -Sterilizia's heart was in the final world Haven as one of the stars conversing with Sora -Ava's status was unknown as her mission was different from the foretellers -Luxu moved vessels to survive until he took the form of Braig/Xigbar Kind of upsetting that Ephemer was the only union X character to have a confirmed death but considering the time passed, I guess he have awaited this.
@@vanessachowjiaying4423 Where does it mention subject X again? I'm having trouble finding it, it's been a while since I have played those. Could it be Ephemer's spirit is still in one of those pocket dimensions like the wielders were in before? I swear this story gets more complicated the more games we get haha. Still fun though. Thanks for the detailed reaction. I had forgotten about most of it.
@ 24:00 In the video: "A purge, the world will be returned back to whence it started. The world began in darkness and from that darkness came light, from the light came the people and those people had hearts. Evil burgeoned in those hearts, begetting more darkness and that darkness spread across the world like a plague. The light, the symbol of the world's hope was devoured by shadow, leaving nothing but ruin, an utter failure. However, the first light, the light of Kingdom Hearts, it can give us a new start, an empty world, pure and bright. Then who's decision was it to make this choice? The world needs someone to stand up and lead by example with strength, someone strong to stop the weak from pollution the world with their endless darkness, someone to dictate their destiny." - Master Xehanort 0_0 Wow Xehanort actually makes a lot of sense when it comes to what he says here tbh, I secretly agree with him and respect his arguments and I see where he's coming from, I am against malignant egalitarianism too. He reminds me of Sam Vaknin who is also kind of authoritarian and against thinking that all opinions are equally worth, because they are not. His speech actually made me feel a lot of sympathy for Xehanort, what he says actually applies to the real world and is true for us humans as well, this game is much deeper than I thought. lol
@@ricky.alonso You're not the only one, many people do including those with high IQs like Sam Vaknin or James Watson. In real life things are less fairy tale like and more serious.
It's no coincidence that Master Xehanort is Nomuras favorite. He must see things in the world like M.Xehanort does which explains why he easily identifies with him. As even with some flaws Xehanort has made the most logical sense in series.
Meh. He was better in Birth By Sleep and DDD wasn't some secret light upholder. Had more preference for the darkness which made since out of Ansem SOD actions in first KH1 imo.
@@Unversed333 Definitely. He knew there was no way he was gonna replicate Nimoy's performance and decided to create his own Xehanort. He did a wonderful job.
What's very cool about 22:14, is if you have the PS4 edition, Donald and goofy will yell "Sora!!" Through the controller speakers, which I think is a very cool thing that makes the moment better
What would have been even better in the ending,is that when Xehanort hands over the X-Blade to Sora,he and Eraqus say something along the lines of "With the passing of the X-blade to you Sora,We acknowledge you as a true keyblade master!" or something like that.
@@stonefree7973 Maybe not strictly in those words, but at least someone should acknowledge him as a Keyblade Master by now. Last thing we need Sora to be is Ash Ketchum XD
I agree. Xehanort, the practically omnipotent and omniscient villain, conceded to Sora, an inexperienced kid (relatively speaking) with little more than a big heart. It still kinda bugs me that Sora was never officially named a Master, but I figure getting one of the most powerful Keyblade Masters of all time to surrender peacefully to you counts for something.
Kartik Ayysola not just that but Eraqus, obsessed with Light & Xehanort obsessed with Darkness finally reunited and they forgived each other and went to the great beyond
One thing that is kinda funny Master Xehanort taking all the hits from the ship sequence. He's like Master Xehanort: "We're just getting started." (Sora keeps shooting him with plasma gun from his ship) Master Xehanort: Am I a joke to you?
The Kingdom Hearts journey may be over but it's not over. There's stories that could save Sora and speaking of Sora: he'll be back in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. How exciting this would be?
Hmmm, i am happy with this resolution, after all, as shown in the fight with the 4 norts, while the young one was absoltely assured of his victory, Ansem acknowledged that a person can overcome darkness, and xemnas views where altered by sora's beliefs. Xehanort already knew that his was not the only answer, yet he still held belief in his, until he was shown he was wrong again. I can accept that, it means that the last 2 games adventures where not for nothing, that they did hava an impact in the overall story. Also, is it me, or did it seem like xehanort just granted mastery to Sora? P.S: Noct's gonna pork Luna... errr, wrong game.
Well, he was warned that the power of waking would do that to him, so, he is either A: Taken out of existence, B: Stuck in a Dream world or C: Stranded somewhere on the boundary betwen the realms of light and dark, or D: Wandering around wherever the frak is Scala ad Caelum
The only thing I missed was a prologue like Destiny Islands in KH1 or the Roxas part in KH2. You know just something calm and relaxing. They could have let you play as Kairi or Axel training in the woods to learn the basic mechanics and have a calm, slow start. But they didnt. They threw you right into the action this time. I kinda dislike that.
I hate how Sora seemingly just FORGOT how to fly. It was one of the vocal points of Kingdom Hearts' finale, seeing Sora return from the shadows with the flying ability he earned from Peter Pan. I wish they made him relearn it. It was a great ability, far too undervalued from a plot perspective.
@@haileye2191 Yeah, but glide ain't fly. Sora actually can fly, hover up and down in KH1 with Peter Pan's help. In all games onward all he could do was glide.
I'm not a fan of Rutger Hauer as MX, even in spite of his legacy, but that's almost entirely because he's filling the shoes of Leonard Goddamn Nimoy. That was the most perfect casting I'v ever seen for a role in a video game, English or Japanese, and props to Nomura for making that executive decision. I don't know if he had input on the choice of Rutger Hauer, and maybe it'll grow on me, but I just... ehhhh.
It's jarring, but it works for me. Makes me wonder what it would have been like if Hauer was Xehanort from the beginning (not that I don't love Nimoy, of course).
@@greendaleforever He stated in an interview that he designed Eraqus and MX specifically so Hamill and Nimoy could play them, because he wanted to pit Star Wars and Star Trek against each other in a dream match. Look it up on the wiki, I couldn't believe it either at first. The absolute madman.
Like Sora can't just reach into the Afterlife, beat up the lich until it coughs up Kairi's heart, and return her to the land of the living _(at the cost of his own corporeal existence...)_
ok but can we appreciate how KH3 really showed us that in general, advanced Keyblade technique employs magic circles and complicated rules? Sora's just literally winging it with The Power of Friendship and his indomitable valor, but in terms of academic knowledge and scholarly prowess, Xehanort could run around the world before Sora would even leave the gate.
I truly believe if the music had been better this would be a more impressive final boss scenario. The battle with Xemnas in KH2 ends even more abruptly than Master Xehanort, but because of the progression of the music throughout his phases it still feels satisfying and conclusive. The music for Master X, on the other hand, is static and does not prepare the player for a resolution. The fight ends on the same tone it began.
First time I fought him I expected there to be a final phase since the music and fight did not have that "climatic" feel like in KH2. I waited but when I realised it ended I said to myself "That's it?". Re:Mind don't fail me now...
You want to know what would’ve definitely amped up the difficulty? At 21:28 you had to input a very complicated button combo so you could finish his last bar of hp. If you failed then his health would completely regenerate and the second time facing him xehanort would be spamming cures just like the player. Maybe sending down a couple meteors too.
I’m not even gonna lie when Goofy and Donald are saying Soraaaa trying to call Sora back after he dies and you hearing the heart beat and the trinity command pops up I got so emotional that whole scene makes you feel like this is a true bond of friendship Kingdom Hearts is the best series that was ever made!
I actually like that Donald and Goofy are here with Sora throwing hands with Xehanort and even saving him when he got overwhelmed. They may be the unsung heroes of this game tbh with the moments they get, I might even say they're more loyal to Sora at this point than their own King since they still wanted to go with him after the end. I did not expect that. As for their AI, imo(this includes the other party members as well) I feel they're probably the best since KH1 and maybe even better. In my experience, they've taken out groups of enemies, have done decent damage on bosses and can even stun some of them, opening them up for attacks. Played on Proud and they rarely died on me as well. Team attacks are very good as well.
Sooooo... we're not gonna talk about Mark Hamil's voice acting as Master Eraqus? I might be old news maybe yes, but I just love the feels when he appears and he sees his pupils in front of him and he apologizes to them before he disappears at 31:22.
31:00 A keyblade ceremony done so slick i almost didnt catch it. Only sora received it from xehanort, does the ritual with the X-blade, and gets it from the same guy that was also raised on destiny island.
As a guy who waited for the game for 13 years I don't think it deserves it. It was a good game, but it wasn't a masterpiece. I expected way more after such a long wait.
