@@Sneaky_racoon_sly Yeah, they remade it on PS2, after the release of KH II, so that people could better understand the story without needing to buy an entirely different console. So, pretty much, it was made on the same engine that KH II was made on. Also, 2.5 doesn’t really have an engine of it’s own since it’s just remasters of the games, so same engine but just prettier. 2.8 did technically introduce a new engine to KH, but it was really just a tech demo for KH III.
This used to be my least favorite game back in the day, but I've learned to appreciate it more over the years. The story was great, and the gameplay was unique. It first introduced the Organization XIII and foreshadowed what's to come, leading to KH2.
I agree Re: Chain of Memories didn't translate the original game's gameplay style to 3D very well. But the original game for the GBA is pretty decent. It's not great, but it's still worth a try, and the card system works way better in a 2D environment than a 3D one.
