Apologies for the delay - 85 gb of corrupted footage an hour before it was due to go live and well...here we are haha! I hope the review still gives you what you need and let me know if you’ll be picking this one up! Mark
Between this and the Immortals: Phoenix Rising review, I swear the tech gods have it out for you guys. ;) I'd pick this up again if Monster Hunter Rise wasn't on the horizon. With a 9 month old, I have to pick and choose my games carefully. I don't know how you're able to do it, Mark. Great content as always!
*looks at game library* I can attest to that. Almost every game I got was because of these reviews. I may get this one as well... after i get a new sdcard...
Bro ham, don't blame your wallet for dissing the game, it's 100% Worth on PS4, i'll give you not buying on PC, because it's much more comfortable on Controller, but the game is just to good man, plus, for an old game, great replay value, comfortable controls, and a well dated game redone for all console's and below, and the PS4 ver i have, does perform slightly smoother/better but that's to be expected on a stronger machine.
This is the kind of game I bought the switch for. It seems it finally gets some attention after 10 years. Great to have a physical release, too. Digital its too expensive but as a cartridge the Nintendo Tax is acceptable for this game.
I remember being in awe when I first bought this game on the 360. So many hours into this game. It always reminds me of the Fable series. Will be picking this up
Havent played Re-Reckoning on Switch, but on PS 4 and the original on PS3. It is not like Dragons Dogma. Dragons Dogma is one of the best RPGs ever made in history and Kingdom of Amalur is sometimes underrated but sometimes also boring. You can have fun fpr maybe 20-25 Bucks but DD is on another level. Keep this in mind. I still would go for Skyrim which is more expensive.
Dragons dogma / Skyrim / dark souls I can’t believe I’ve never played these being I loved these games. I tried the Witcher and it was decent but can’t get into a game with a pre set character. I just picked this game up last night and this review is making me very interested to play it today.
Mafia was a remake, a remaster IS just dusting off the textures, recompiling them at higher res, maybe remap the controls to make them more modern, etc.
@@majedh3310 That’s true.. though the definition is pretty much in the writing. ReMAKE (make a game/ assets from the ground up ) vs reMASTER (clean up the existing product). Pretty clear-cut.
what is rpg, im just getting back into gaming and i would appreciate your top 5 games in switch overall, not including mario related games, and hich dragon ball z do you like?

@@JJ-no8fk I'm one of the very few who prefers it to Breath of the wild (even though I spent 150 hours on it) : it's simpler, there's more platforming and combat, combat system is more akin to Darksiders than Zelda - which is a plus- , the map is far less dispersive and it's literally full of thing to do around every corner be it some nice environmental puzzle or the occasional fight, and doing things it's rewarding for once: solving some puzzles or killing some enemies always gives you back something, either in the form of upgrading material or new armour/weapon. Damn, as simple as it is there's even a real story in the game! Basically, it's more akin to the old 3D Zelda's than Breath of the wild has ever been.
Hopefully this leads to games like Destroy All Humans coming to Switch, and THQ Nordic making Amalur into a series. Its gonna be a buy for me. Cant wait to play my Arcane Rogue again
Never played or even owned this one. Will def get it to add it to my 30+ switch games backlog xD. I just feel as games like this one better to get it soon. Cause ill be out of stock and i aint buying digital. Maybe if nintendo made a 512gb or 1tb sd card. lol
Soooooooooooooo Many excuses in these Comment's !!! haha good god, Look, hands down, this is a classic game, 100% worth, both on PS4 and on switch !!! and i got them on both, has nothing to do with weather you have $$ or not, for those who remember that game being as good as it was, you know it's worth. Great Video SwitchUP !!!
Great combat and skill tree customization in this one. Still rockin the PS3 version so I reckon I'll pass this time. But great video, love the detail as always.
already purchased, such an underappreciated game. Pure joy to play. Loved it 2012, love it still to this day. Nothing is complicated and every system just works. And now the game and all expansions are preserved in physical form for years.
This game is insanely underrated and absolutely amazing imo always thought of it as skyrim+god of war (bc of combat style) very stoked to get this tomorrow or whenever i can get to the store
I think marketing mustve gone wrong, i didnt know about it on release. Ive always likened it to fable the lost chapters, but consider it far better than 2 and 3. This felt more like a propper sequel to the first fable game.
@@D3sdinova that this in my opinion is far better than fable. And the battle mechanics is more on part with God of War I agree with chicken parm. But I think it's a mix of God of war and soul reaver from back in the day.
I generally enjoy open world rpg style games, this looks like a good fit for when I'm done with the Witcher 3 Blood and Wine. Really hoping Mass Effect Legendary Collection comes to the Nintendo Switch 🙏.
Loved the gameplay but man the worldbuilding and writing was offensively bland and forgettable. You can really tell games like this and ff12 were originally supposed to be mmo's and halfway during development were changed back to singleplayer games.
This is just the kind of game I like to play on Switch, Skyrim and Dragon's Dogma are other examples. Pretty much up to par with the other console versions, and it's just so good not being bound to the TV when you're up to spending 100 hours in a game like this. It's so nice to play prolonged by the TV, but then do some side quests on the go :)
This doesn't just have a good combat system, it has one of the best combat systems ever implemented in a game. I always liked Fable's combat system the most, it just feels so visceral and intuitive, and this takes that and just amps it up to such an extreme. It's fluid and challenging, on the hard difficulty I would have to fight bosses over and over trying to figure out how to beat them, and I love actually being tested like that. That said, the game does have its shortcomings, but it's worth playing just for the feel of the combat alone. And the world design is pretty nice to boot.
I've heard a lot of "not much of a remaster, just a minor touch-up" regarding this game, but I've never even played the original release! For me, it's functionally a new game, and one that's been on my radar for a while.
@@SwitchUpYt Do you guys recommend getting dragons dogma the now and waiting for Kingdoms to come down in price or is it worth just getting at its current price. Side note never played dragons dogma either.
The Dragon Age comparison is understandable. It has this grand fantasy epic feel to it and the StarWars-like soundtrack and colourful environments with different atmospheres really pull you to the campaign.
Honestly, bringing this to the Switch is perfect. The fact you can grind on the go, is godsend. Add that the game runs smooth on the Switch, is just icing on the cake.
I already played this on Xbox years ago, so I won’t be buying it for the Switch. That said I recommend it highly. It’s a fun game with hours of battles and a good story. Have fun!
I'm not going to lie - I'm here to watch some video of the game and it's super-fun combat because I want to go back and finish my original run through the game, but I keep getting distracted by new games, and I'm hoping watching it will overcome that hurdle. Fingers crossed...
I ever wanted to play Amalur... I didn't buy it back in the days on PS3 and when it was rereleased I was waiting, hoping for a switch version. The Switch is just a crazy handheld/console with all that stuff... even if they would stop now with new games, I have more than enough to play for several more years :D
i was just at gamestop lookin for a solid rpg and ive played amalur twice before but when i saw it was on switch i lost it. got home and my only fear was fixed! i can sprint!
one of my favorite games of all time. but i agree, the price is a bit steep for essentially a 10 year old game, probably will wait for a sale in the future for this one.
Never really played this game before. Had it on PC and sunk about 3 or so hours into it and liked what I saw but ended up not coming back for whatever time constraint reasons. Do you guys think its worth trying again 9 years later? I get some pretty heavy classic world of warcraft vibes from this games art design too.
I Just bought the switch version. Patch 1.02 works fine, only played in Dock mode for a few hours. I would not call the game a remaster, but having played Skyrim on the switch too, this sure is a good port for the switch and a fitting game for the switch.
As someone who never played the original it is a great game and I'm definetly glad I took the risk buying it. Its basically a single player World of warcraft
Good review as always. Some of the cons about this game are repetitive quests, forgettable characters, unbalanced combat (especially magic; it IS fun though) and dated mechanics. However, it is a decent game in its own right. If you like these kind of games, then go buy it when it's on sale. For anyone starting out, choose Very Hard difficulty instead. Despite the name, it's actually pretty fun on that setting (you cannot change difficulties once picked) and choosing any other option makes the game boring mid-way, becoming too easy even with inadequate equipment.
About half a year ago I was told there won't be a Switch version so I bought the PS4 version instead... biggest regret ever, I barely touch my PS4 Slim other than Vudu, recently watching Yu Yu Hakusho while playing my Switch. Is there any games you thought won't be on Switch only to have it ported half a year or so later?
I picked it up from GameStop, at $15, for the ps4 two weeks ago. I’ve put around 20 hrs in and have barely touched the story missions. When the game first came out it sadly bombed. I preordered Mass Effect 3 and one of the perks was knight armor inspired of KoA. Fortunately, you can find N7 armor in a chest when you visit your first village. If I knew this was coming out on the switch I would’ve held out on getting it for the ps4.
this looks cool! I've put some good hours into Skyrim, and I've looked into Dragon's Dogma but put it down, since my computer can't handle it. Might as well just try Amalur instead!
I never had an opportunity to place this one on an earlier system. I had thought about preordering it for Switch but wanted to wait for SwitchUp’s review. It appears that I’m going to be out another $40.
I managed to get a physical copy for 27 on eBay. I played the demo ages ago on my Xbox360 and really liked it but never bought the original release. I think even for 35 something pounds is a fair price. If you compare with it Skyward Sword which will be a rip off for 60 which just a hd coat of paint and the ability to play with a normal controller... Don't get me wrong, I love Zelda and will get it, but used and not for 60 pounds...
When I first played Breath of the Wild this was the game that came to my mind. [Mainly for the weapon system] I hope people appreciate this game the 2nd time around. A classic, for sure!
One of the things I absolutely hated about BOTW was the weapons degradation system. Is it similar to that or do weapons degrade slower....... I'm old and still love gaming but lord I hate getting too many details to manage/track. I skip crafting as much as possible. I couldn't take dragons dogma or monster hunter but love witcher (minus the crafting). Does this strike a good balance or is an old fart like me who plays on lower difficulties and doesn't want to manage inventories and such going to be overrun?
@@skysix5733 Unlike Breath of the Wild, this game let's you repair your weapons. There is crafting in this game and you will have to manage what weapons you carry with you. I'm not a big fan of over complicated crafting games either [I'm over 40], but this game's story and combat was enough to make me forget about most of the crafting. Focus on "Blacksmithing" and you should be fine.
I was way hyped for this back in the day, pre ordered it, had so many reasons to love it but when it came down to it the gameplay got fairly repetitive. The worst part though are the quests in this game. They bragged about the amount back in the day but when it came down to it only a few of the quests were worth doing. Most of the hundreds of quests were incredibly dull fetch quests. But then again it's been a while since I've tried it again.
KoA was so underrated back when it came out originally. I loved it to death. The chackras were my favourite weapon and made combat feel soooo satisfying! Would love to dip back into this game again, it's been so long.
I bought my ps3 last year for quarantine and, a good few month later i saw a lady on fb selling the original version of this game. So i bought it and dungeon siege 3 bith for $25 including the cost for her to mail it to me. In all honesty the way i see it now, is that i boight reckoning for $20 and got another game free lol. Its worth $20 second hand in excellent condition and no less. So as for the price i think $40 CAD for it including 2 DLC on the switch is a great deal brand new. I spent almost 200hrs doing all side quests. Real fun game. The controls could be better, there shouldve been a jump button at the least. Jump points really made the game feel confining. There was no depth like Dragons Dogma. There you had full freedom to explore, the battle system was extremely fun and challenging. Reckoning just isnt there. You cant even control where you roll ffs. No matter where you point the joystick, ur character just dont go there at all. Real frustrating. Infact battle in this game was pretty annoying. Getting raped by a pack if fucking wolves for instants. One thing i really liked tho was the fact that i never spent any time grinding out levels. I just kept doing side quests. Oh but one thing i hated soo much was the archer class, you do not have the ability to aim your bow and snipe enemies (〒﹏〒). Man that really fucking pissed me off. Same with the arrows, you cant buy arrows, and it takes soo long for them to re load (ノ`Д´)ノ彡┻━┻. Trust me, being able to snipe wouldve been soo good. Soo many fucking enemies r a real pain in the ass fight like those god damn Thrashers. Or the mages in the desert. Oh well.
This game was created by ex Baseball player Curt Schilling who was a big time gamer. However, this game didn't do that well so he ended up owing money to some people and had to give up the business. It must be hard for him to see what he was a part of creating being remastered. This game was a solid game, easy, but solid. I feel for him because this game wasn't too bad.
This ‘remaster’ was shite everywhere else. But on the switch, i think I’m gonna pick it up. I don’t play the switch for graphics and this is an excellent game 🙌🏾
Recently purchased this on sale for about $10 US. Great title for the value, but I have run into one glitch thus far, requiring a few resets and reload due to a boss disappearing during a boss fight. I’m only 15hrs in, mostly faction and side questing. Incredibly fun game with my only complaint, aside from the aforementioned glitch, being the lack of a jump mechanic. It reminds me of Skyrim. I’m hoping that the difficulty of the fights and loot scales with the character level. The lack of scaling fights and treasure made Skyrim a big miss for me. Having hundreds of hours of gameplay is useless when only 40 is competitive because you’ve out-leveled the challenge, making everything a one hit kill, or crafting the strongest armor/weapons and rewards from questing fall seriously short of that. My hopes are high though
I had this game on the ps3. After many hours near beating the main story my ps3 got the ylod. So than it all ended. I think im gonna buy the game for the switch and play through it
I'll be definitely buying this, I had it Playstation 3, then got it on Games with gold. I completed the original story, but didn't finish the DLC, did you also get the N7 armour also? I knew that there was some kind of cross game preorder bonus, i got a weapon I think in Mass Effect 3. Although I can't remember.
I remember really enjoying the original and played right thru completing pretty much all the side missions. I could be convinced to replay it and maybe try a different class, I reckon I’ll wait for a sale because the price is a little too high for me. I’d price it around £19-£20ish.
I think the love you have for this game clouded your view in terms of graphics. Still it seems like a game I'm rather interested in, but I will wait for a discount.
SwitchUp... The sole reason why I have to now mostly buy physical copies of games, as they've made me reduce my 500GB SD card on my switch to 50GB left 😳😂😭😭😭
The slight stutter when using magic with particle effects is present in every version of the game I've played. It existed in the original on PC and it exists in the PS4 version. I don't think it's something they can fix. Great review.
Sometimes, I can just relax knowing that I am not moving a few of my desired games further down the backlog to accommodate another title. Good review but just not interested in this one...for now.
I repeat - I got the last physical copy for the PS4 at Gamestop for $11 last week. Loving every minute of this throw back masterpiece! This will burn up alot of battery life on the Switch
Hi there, thanks so much for this great review - from the back of which I bought a physical copy of the game and I have to say I am having a great time with it - the combat is so much fun and it looks great too. One of my best experiences on the SWITCH to date. Go pick it up and keep up the great work SWITCHUp!
I totally missed this. Grabbed it physically for an insanely cheap price, and have been amazed. My only complaint is the things you have to pick through on level up are kinda meh. Pick up more gold, or get better at picking up alchemy items. Bland stuff like that. But the rest of the game is amazing.
