I picked this game after 10 years and damn, I am still finding new things.

Is thing I don't understand that I hear a lot of people say about this game is that the side quests are boring I don't think so I find the stories and things like that behind them to be very interesting and how they branch into other quests and how everything feels so interconnected I found the house of ballad's quest line to be very entertaining

Its good to see this gem get the praise it deserves. Its criminal that it has never been properly recognised as the great game it is. If only the developers had not originally made such a terrible choice of a sponsor for the game, the world would not have been denied knowledge of this classic.

I picked up this game from a friend back in 2013 and played it on the 360. It has arguably the best gameplay in an action RPG. I got the remaster couple of months ago on the Switch and logged 100+ hours on a 11 year old game and it's still one of the best games in terms of gameplay. Glad it's getting more love after the remaster.

Started playing recently for first time and it’s amazing. Really hope it gets a sequel

Loving playing the remaster on my switch lite. It's awesome to pick up and put down throughout the day. Currently going for a Universalist playthrough with all sustained abilities and infinite magic for actives. I loved my first run through like 8 years ago as a Shadowcaster.

Thanks for this. Good in depth review of a much overlooked game. For all of its faults and dated aspects, I think there is something special about KoA, and it remains one if my two or three favourite games ever. It’s good to see there are content creators out there who feel the same way. Even after completing the main quest line, I’m still feeling motivated to go back and play through the side quests I missed, and there are a lot. From what I’ve read, I’m about a third of the way through all the content so the game is huge. I agree with the comment some have made about KoA being like a single player MMO… some will find this style engaging, some won’t. Personally I love the game - art style, combat, world design, story, character customisation, quests - for me KoA is a well oiled machine of an RPG that keeps me engaged and one I keep going back to.

I had this on 360 and loved it. Been slow on getting the re-reckoning, but diving in today. Can't wait.

My favorite build is a Dokalfar Elf Universalist that uses flaming chakrams and flaming bows... I get as many bonuses to experience as possible with armor and accessories, and always hit the six Ysa shrines before clearing an area or entering a dungeon...

Literally perfect game in my book.

playing through this again. I almost am 100 pct sure I beat it ages ago and loved it but ya started playing through it again this week have 30 ish hours in to a rogue. really hoping for a sequel soon.

I loved the original Amalur on PS3. The combat was fantastic and still holds up today. The story was okay. Not bad but didn't stay with me. I was so happy that THQ Nordic gave us a remaster to replay it. Still hoping for a sequel.

This is a great game to get lost in. Re-Reckomning was the first thing I installed on my PS5 back in November. Great video, and thanks for making it. I still have my hard cover strategy guide for the original version (if you can find it, the 30+ pages of lore and world history makes it worth it), and THQ did manage to correct some of the original game's bugs, as well as change the way leveling works (the alterations to prevent you from totally out-leveling certain areas are welcome). Has there been any news on the Fatesworn DLC?

Love the video. This is also one of my favorite RPGs of all time. Currently playing through primarily using Greatsword + Bow. My only real gripe with the game is how hard it is to get useful gear sets. By the time you get enough pieces of gear in a given set, green drops will usually outclass it

Usually I use Daggers or Faeblades paired with a Bow or Chaakram while my build is primarily finesse focused though I usually get a healing spell early

Hey bro, back again because i left this tab open and had a thought lol. did you play the remaster or original? Also a quick thought on the fate mode, while it looks amazing and i love how brutal some of the execuations are. It really trivializes any of the harder fights. Its basically cheat mode, especially if you have the right potions to use with it, i know ignoring mechanics is a band aid idea and i shoudlnt have to do that, but i definitley play without it. Also,are you looking forward to the new DLC and will you review it?

If only they had Cyberpunk 2077 's marketing team...

I got the Switch version and somehow just stumbled into the Teeth of Naros and played through it starting at level 9 lol. Good lord it took me 20 hours and I had a blast. In hindsight I might not start with that questline.

Its got flaws but who cares? All games do. Its got INCREDIBLE lore and it has MORE unique voice acting and lines of dialogue than any other rpg including skyrim.. Really cool loot and item sets, good combat, really good visuals that remind me of World of Warcraft. Many people criticize the re master, but this kind of art style goes a LONG way and it really does not look very dated, and it wont, it holds up.... The story is really good too. Its delivered in a similar way to an mmorpg, Elder Scrolls online is VERY comparable as far as how the lore and store and quests are done, im playing both atm and its crazy how similar that aspect is and thats a positive for me since i mostly play mmos. Amazing game and i cant wait for the new dlc. RA salvatore knocked the lore out of the park!!!!!!!!!!! I would buy a Amalur book or comic or movie! We were spoiled with this game and we didnt even realize it, same with Darksiders. And they have alot in common, being brought to life with lore and art from legendary comic artists! Its no surprise why the lore and art is so good for both.. You are SPOT on with the diablo and titan quest comparrison and influence. Ive also played both of those recently and while playing amalur i get those vibes too. The way you adventure and do dungeons, so similar. I hate that people hated on the remaster so much, for its faults its also SO much better

A good artstyle will always outlast graphical fidelity. This game is a prime example of that. This has arguably one of the lazier remaster's of recent memory but the original game is so good and so polished in every other aspect that you're too busy having fun to care. Also Chakrams....need I say more?

Todd McFarlane was also involved,wow I didn't know about him. I have original on PS3 but didn't finish yet. I remember I really like it and combat was awesome. Wish remaster was better, but people told me to play PS3 version instead, especially if I already have it. My coffee is finished I can now watch the video :)

Amalur didn't set my world on fire, but I know a lot of people got a big kick out of it.

This game helped me wash the taste of the PS3 version of Skyrim, or as it was known back then Rimlag out of my mouth.

Its just a shame the remaster was so lackluster. Such a wonderful game yet stuck with a dev who seemed to only want to slap a new price tag on it.

What kept me from finishing Kingdoms originally was the general lack of things to do beyond the excellent combat system. I always thought that if Fable and Kingdoms had a baby it would be the ultimate RPG. Great review!

Sometimes the game can feel like stepping on mines of shit because of known bugs. I have tripped off a few while playing. At one point I had to start whole new game because I ruined the quest to Ysa by entering and leaving abruptly because I wanted to empty my full backpack ( second playthrough) and the quest finished itself. The game itself can be fun if you know the dos and don'ts of its bug mechanics. Another thing about KoA: Re-reckoning is how your Fateless one can survive insanely high jumps off of cliffs and other places without dying. Something you couldn't try in Skyrim without mods.

I just wish that the remaster was more fleshed out and had less bugs. I recently bought this again and hopefully they patched it with the new dlc they added this year.

One of the best games I’ve played. There is a glitch in it if you break some crystals before a mission in the late game that completely halts story progression. I fell victim to it and restarted my game. My new play through was much more enjoyable.

I have spent everyday of the past several weeks playing this game. Created half a dozen characters: a greathammer wieldinh Storm Paladin that focuses on lightning damage, stunning enemies and reflecting damage. A dagger wielding vampire that is stronger at night and focuses on bleed damage and leeching health and must feed on the blood of the innocent every 3 days. A Voodoo priest that summons the dead and deals poison damage. And a tectonic mage that shifts the earth and wrecks the ground in order to wreck her enemies are just a few. I love the versatility of character building while remaining simple has a lot of versatility as ling as you restrain yourself from using everything at your disposal. Very underrated game.

You can't walk on PC, though, but you can walk on console. That's kind of discrimination. And "why do you even need walking in this game"...well, it's an RPG, I want to be able to RP. Immersion>gameplay, duh.

Some of the team from Civilization my all time fav! I’ve been playing this a lot lately.. And the more time I put in the more I like it.. Yet not many people seem to know about it.. Which for a title of this quality is bizarre and puzzling.. I did notice your equipment breaks but not to the point of being constant & annoying a la other more mainstream games..

i played it when it was on sale on steam, thou my opinion about it was that it must be lame. the title was lame, the story and the world nothin to me. and boy was i wrong. it hasitsunderdeveloped sections and parts, but it has all an rpg needs and one of the best combat systems. this would make a hell of a multiplayer game. the world is definitely worth working on.

I played it on release years ago and it felt like singleplayer quasi-mmo. Combat was fine (and even great) but everything else... well mediocre at best.

Game looks good, but your script reading. Dry monotone then an exclamation on last 1-2 words, is highly annoying to listen to! For every sentence it gets Repetitive. Hopefully you learn how to sound natural on future videos.

if it's such a great game why did it fail so hard commercially? also, talking for 30 minutes about the combat system of *an RPG* is not really a review. what about the narrative? it's an rpg after all. what about game balancing? any compelling villains? how is the grind? any clever puzzles or particularly noteworthy quests? what about so many people complaining they hit max level around halfway through the game and lost interest and never finishing it because the story is so dull?

This retrospective is as sterile, formulaic and robotic like the game.
