This video was taken whilst surveying the river Lagan in Belfast for Kingfishers. The Ecologist is in the front of the canoe logging sightings of the birds and any nest holes or perches used by them. The other canoeists are there to provide extra eyes and ears, but more importantly they are for safety cover should they be needed in moving water sections. They can also be used in photos to locate sightings, by raising a paddle in the air while we take a photo with a mobile device equipped for "geotagging".
